Abstract

Background: Indonesia has a higher potential to experience an increase in stunting cases, because around 31% of children under the age of five experience stunting. The prevalence can be influenced by direct and indirect factors, from pregnancy to early childhood growth. The increasing number of stunting cases affects the quality of human resources, resulting in various significant impacts, such as declining public health, economic stagnation, poverty, and social inequality. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the correlation between maternal nutrition, toddler feeding patterns, and household economic status with stunted cases in Kelurahan (Urban Village of) Arjowinangun and Kelurahan Mergosono, Malang City. Methods: This study employed a quantitative approach, utilizing a retrospective cross-sectional design with correlation analysis methods. As many as 60 respondents (mothers and stunted toddlers) participated in the study. Statistical analysis includes Spearman’s Rank test for bivariate analysis with a 95% significance level (p=0.05) and multiple logistic regression for multivariate analysis. Results: Bivariate analysis revealed significant positive correlations between maternal nutrition (p=0.000), toddler feeding patterns (p=0.000), and household economic status (p=0.000) with stunted cases. Among these variables, household economic status demonstrated the strongest correlation, with a correlation coefficient of 0.617. Multivariate analysis showed that the household economic status variable had a greater chance of correlating with stunted cases by 30.989 times. Conclusion: All three independent variables were significantly correlated with stunted, with household economic status being the strongest determinant.

Abstract

American cockroach (Periplaneta americana) is one of the vectors of disease because there are bacteria and parasites in its body. One way to control them is by using synthetic insecticides. However, synthetic insecticides have active ingredients that are harmful to humans. Bioinsecticides can be used as an alternative, one of which is from cigarette butt waste which has active substances. Cigarette butts are a relatively large waste in Indonesia with 200,000 butts per year. This study aims to find the effectiveness of cigarette butts extract by maceration and drying methods and compare the two methods. This research is experimental using a non-factorial completely randomized design. The research was conducted with 2 methods, maceration and drying with dose of 100, 150, and 200 g/Lwith positive (synthetic insecticide) and negative controls. The treatment was repeated 4 times with a total of 32 experimental units. Each container measuring 26 x 26 x 10 cm3 contained 10 cockroaches totaling 320. Data were analyzed using One Way Anova and Kruskal Wallis with Games Howell and Mann Whitney U tests with a significant level of 5%. The highest average results from each method, maceration and drying, have the same results at a dose of 200 g/L with a mortality percentage of 70% and 55%, respectively. In the comparison of the two methods, the maceration method with a dose of 200 g/L is the most effective dose. These results indicate that cigarette butt waste can be used as an alternative bioinsecticide in controlling American cockroaches (Periplaneta Americana)

Abstract

Introduction: Potable water needs to satisfy quality criteria for microbiological, chemical, and physical. Consuming water that fails to comply with established quality standards can lead to illnesses, including diarrhea. In Tangerang City, based on environment-related disease counseling data from 2024, diarrhea had the highest number of cases. The study examined the influence of DAM sanitary hygiene on the microbiological quality of refilled potable water and to map the distribution of DAM in Tangerang City in 2024. Methods: The study employed a quantitative analytic observation with a cross-sectional method and a secondary data analysis (SDA) with a geographic information system (GIS). Independent variable in this study is the assessment results of the sanitary hygiene DAM and dependent variable is the microbiological quality laboratory test result. The sample consisted of 104 DAM across Tangerang City. Data analysis utilized the Chi-square and binary logistic regression tests. Spatial analysis for thematic map creation was performed using QGIS. Results and Discussion: The results showed that 72.1% of DAM met the sanitary hygiene requirements but 63.5% still had microbiological contaminants. Statistical test results showed that the sanitary hygiene of DAM had a significant partial effect on the microbiological quality of drinking water with a p-value=0.002 (p<0.05). Conclusion: The study concluded that the sanitary hygiene of DAM affects the microbiological quality of drinking water. Other variabels outside the assessment aspects also contribute, such as a contact time of UV light or disinfection equipment, maintenance of filters, and water source quality.
