Abstract

Several studies show that students' information literacy and self-confidence are still low and need to be improved. Students find the biological material on the digestive and respiratory systems particularly challenging because it explains the complex interactions between the structure, function, and symptoms of the disorders these systems cause and their uncommon scientific names. This study determined how Problem-Based Learning integrated with the Reading, Questioning, and Answering (PBL-RQA) model affects students' information literacy and self-confidence. Using a quasi-experimental with a nonrandomized control-group pretest-posttest design, 96 students from junior high school in Bangkalan Regency, East Java, Indonesia were sampled for the study. They were divided into one experimental class and two control classes. The PBL-RQA model was taught in the experimental class, while the PBL and RQA models were each taught in the control class. Information literacy was acquired through an essay test, and self-confidence was acquired through a questionnaire given using Google Forms. The analysis was conducted using the ANCOVA test with a significance level of 5% and then followed up with the least significant difference test. Students in the PBL-RQA class achieved the highest mean scores in information literacy and self-confidence, with 79.19 and 78.50, respectively. Based on the results, PBL-RQA learners significantly increased information literacy and self-confidence than PBL and RQA.

Abstract

Overburden (the dumping of mine tailings and other reject materials) from the Warukin geological formation is one of the potential acid-forming (PAF) of 33.17%. Mining can cause overburden to be exposed and affect biotic and abiotic conditions. The study aimed to analyze the biotic and abiotic factors of three different age overburdens from the Warukin Formation, South Kalimantan. Biotic factor measurements included vegetation sampling using line transect, soil insects using pitfall traps, and microbial using total plate count. Abiotic factor measurements included air temperature and humidity, light intensity, temperature, moisture, and pH of the substrate (n=3), and chemical overburden. Identification of plants and insect species using information from locals, identification books, and websites. Plant species diversity was analyzed using the Shannon-Wiener Index. Dominance species were analyzed using the Important Value Index (IVI). The relation of overburden age on biotic and abiotic factors was analyzed multivariate with Non-Metric Multidimensional Scaling (NMDS). The results showed that there are 102 species of plants and 11 species of soil insects. The numbers of fungi and bacteria are 10-4 CFU g-1 and 10-3 CFU g-1, respectively. Plant species diversity is classified as medium (H'= 2.34; 2.50 and 2.82). Changes in plant composition occurred as the microclimate and substrate nutrition improved. The organic matter increased over time. Humidity and light intensity influence the presence and composition of organisms, while pH values affect the adaptability of plants, insects, and microbes. Heavy metal concentrations have increased due to the physicochemical properties of the Warukin formation overburden.

Abstract

Global warming is a symptom of an increase in the average temperature of the earth's surface. Global warming is caused by the large concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. One of the biggest greenhouse gases contributing to global warming is carbon dioxide (CO2). Forest vegetation can absorb about 50% of total emissions through a sequestration process stored in biomass in all parts of the plant. The study aimed to determine the potential of biomass, carbon stocks, carbon sequestration, oxygen production, and the CO2 absorption value of environmental services in three types of ecosystems in Buton Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province. Research sampling was conducted using purposive sampling techniques and roaming methods. Calculation of biomass potential, carbon stock, carbon sequestration, oxygen production, and environmental service value of CO2 uptake using an allometric formula The results of research on the biomass potential of mangrove forests, lambusango forests, and pine forests were respectively, 16,108.27 tons/ha, 84,693.72 tons/ha, and 14,273.98 tons/ha. The potential carbon stock is 8,054.13 tons/ha, 42,346.86 tons/ha, and 7,136.99 tons/ha. The carbon absorption potential is 29,558.67 tons/ha, 155,412.98 tons/ha, and 26,192.75 tons/ha. The potential oxygen production is 21,504.54 tons/ha, 113,066.12 tons/ha, and 19,055.76 tons/ha, while the value of environmental services CO2 absorption is 2,221,038,614.63 Rp/ha, 11,677,731,637.57 Rp/ha, and 1,968,123,759 Rp/ha.

Abstract

The environment is defined as a set of aspects in the form of physical, chemical and biological as well as social factors that have a direct or indirect relationship to living things and human activities in the short and long term. However, the environment can experience various problems, one example is environmental damage by causing waste in the environment. One of the reasons for the waste generated by the community is their lack of knowledge about the environment. It was proven in preliminary research at SMA Negeri 11 Pinrang, the results of the initial analysis using students' environmental knowledge questions were still low with an overall result of 43.73. These results indicate that there are still many students who do not know environmental topics and problems, especially waste and its processing, so they are lazy about disposing of waste according to the server and processing the waste, especially wet waste. This research is development research referring to Plomp and Nieven's development design and conducting a quasi-experiment using the PjBL model in class X at SMA Negeri 11 Pinrang. The research results show that the printed module has a practicality value of 91.1% in the very practical category so it is suitable for use in the learning process. The average pretest result for the experimental class was 50.8 in the low category after learning using printed modules and the PjBL model and the posttest was 88 in the very high category and experienced an increase of 37.2%. The average pretest result for the control class was 44.26 in the low category after learning only using the PjBL model and the posttest was 79.6 in the high category and experienced an increase of 35.34%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the printed module is practical and effective in the experimental class with an N-Gain value of 0.75.
