Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder indicated by high blood glucose levels. Red castor is a plant that has potential in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. This study aims to measure the impact of ethanol extract from the roots of the red castor plant (Jatropha gossypiifolia L.) in reducing blood glucose levels in male white Wistar rats that have been induced with alloxan at a dose of 150 mg/kgBW. The study used 25 male mice divided into 5 treatment groups. The negative control group was given distilled water as a substitute for the substance being tested, while the positive control group was given a dose of glibenclamide of 5 mg/kgBW. Apart from that, there were 3 treatment groups that were given extract from red castor root at doses of 25, 50 and 100 mg/kgBW respectively. Treatment was given for 14 days. Alloxan 150 mg/kgBW was used so that mice experienced an increase in blood glucose levels exceeding 200 mg/dL. The results of decreasing blood glucose levels respectively at doses of 25, 50, and 100 mg/kgBW were 101.0 mg/dL, 81.6 mg/dL, and 79.4 mg/dL. The percentage reduction in blood glucose levels obtained at doses of 25, 50, and 100 mg/kgBB was 73.63%, 77.89%, and 80.10%. Based on the results of statistical tests, the effect of using ethanol extract of red castor root at doses of 25 mg/kgBB, 50 mg/kgBB, and 100 mg/kgBB is comparable to using 5 mg/kgBB glibenclamide

Abstract

Karas tulang plant (Chloranthus erectus) is a medicinal plant that has been used in several areas such as China and Southeast Asia. There has been no research regarding the potential of bone karas leaves as an antidiabetic through inhibiting the α-glucosidase enzyme from the ethanol extract of bone karas leaves. Inhibition of the α-glucosidase enzyme can work due to the presence of phytochemical compounds, such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins and quinones. This is because the phytochemical compounds contained therein can act as antidiabetic agents to prevent hyperglycemia in diabetes sufferers. This research aims to identify chemical compounds and the activity of the α-glucosidase enzyme in the ethanol extract of leaves contained in karas bone leaves. The thin layer chromatography method was used to screen phytochemical chemicals for alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins and tannins. The ELISA reader 405 nm method was used to test the inhibition of the α-glucosidase enzyme. The substrate used was p-NPG while the comparison used was acarbose tablets. The results of this research were that the IC50 value for the extract was 30.541 ????g/mL while for acarbose it was 3.873 ????g/mL. From these results it can be concluded that the inhibitory power of the α-glucosidase enzyme is in the active category, while that of acarbose is in the very active category.

Abstract

Tanaman gelang biasa (Portulaca oleracea L.) atau yang sering disebut Krokot memiliki aktivitas farmakologis sebagai antioksidan. Antioksidan adalah senyawa yang mampu membersihkan, menghilangkan, dan menangkal radikal bebas atau pembentukan senyawa oksigen reaktif dalam tubuh. Senyawa kimia yang terkandung pada tanaman gelang biasa (Portulaca oleracea L.) yakni flavonoid yang merupakan senyawa bioaktif utama yang terkandung pada tanaman gelang biasa. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengukur potensi antioksidan yang terkandung dalam ekstrak etanol herba gelang biasa (Portulaca oleracea L.). Metode yang digunakan untuk menganalisis nilai antioksidan yakni DPPH (2,2- Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl), FRAP (Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power), dan CUPRAC (Cupric Ion Reducing Antioxidant Capacity). Hasil dari penelitian yang dilakukan yakni Pengukuran TPC (Total Phenolic Content) sebesar 179,66 mg GAE/g ekstrak. Analisis aktivitas antioksidan menggunakan metode DPPH, FRAP, dan CUPRAC didapatkan nilai IC50 berturut-turut 88,08; 297,99; dan -309,06 µg/mL dengan baku pembanding Vitamin E. Intensitas kekuatan antioksidan dari ekstrak etanol herba gelang biasa (Portulaca oleracea L.) yakni sangat kuat.

Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus merupakan bakteri penyebab berbagai penyakit kulit dan keracunan makanan , sedangkan Escherichia coli merupakan bakteri penyebab diare. Aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol kulit cabang, daun, bunga kamboja putih (Plumeria alba L.) dan kamboja merah (Plumeria rubra L.) disebabkan karena kandungan metabolit sekunder yaitu flavonoid, alkaloid, terpenoid, steroid, polifenol dan saponin.Tujuan dari penelitian untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri dan mengidentifikasi kandungan metabolit sekunder dari ekstrak etanol kulit cabang, daun, bunga kamboja putih (Plumeria alba L.) dan kamboja merah (Plumeria rubra L.) terhadap Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Pembuatan ekstrak etanol dilakukan dengan metode maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 96% (perbandingan 1:10 w/v). Metode Kirby Bauer merupakan metode yang digunakan untuk menguji aktivitas antibakteri. Hasil uji menunjukkan diameter zona hambat ekstrak etanol kulit cabang, daun, bunga Plumeria alba L. dengan konsentrasi 50% terhadap  Escherichia coli lebih tinggi dibandingkan Staphylococcus aureus. Hasil dari penelitian ini daun Plumeria rubra L. terhadap Staphylococcus aureus memiliki zona hambat paling besar diantara bagian tanaman yang lain yaitu 10,38 mm. Kulit cabang  Plumeria rubra L. dan bunga Plumeria alba L. memiliki zona hambat sebesar 9,38 mm. Hasil skrining fitokimia dari kedua simplisia mengandung senyawa alkaloid dan polifenol, kedua simplisia tersebut tidak mengandung senyawa terpenoid, steroid dan flavonoid. Bagian daun dan bunga Plumeria alba L. tidak mengandung senyawa saponin.

Abstract

Tanaman kapulaga (Amomum compactum) adalah tanaman empon-emponan yang banyak digunakan atau dikonsumsi oleh sebagian banyak masyarakat terutama di Indonesia sebagai bumbu dapur atau sebagai pengobatan tradisional. Tanaman kapulaga terdapat senyawa metabolit sekunder seperti flavonoid, polifenol, saponin, alkaloid, steroid, dan terpenoid. Tujuan dari studi literature ini untuk mengkaji informasi terkait dari aktivitas farmakologi dan kandungan senyawa flavonoid total dari tanaman kapulaga. Metode yang digunakan adalah dengan penelusuran artikel nasional atau internasional dengan menggunakan data base Google scholar, pubmed, dan scientdirect. Kata kunci yang digunakan adalah Amomum compactum, dan flavonoid. Selanjutnya kriteria inklusi yang dipakai adalah literature primer yang sudah dipublikasi dengan rentang tahun 2012-2022 dengan membahas aktivitas farmakologi dan kadar senyawa flavonoid total dari tanaman kapulaga. Kriteria eksklusi adalah artikel yang membahas tentang aktivitas farmakologi dan kadar senyawa flavonoid total dari tanaman kapulaga yang dipublikasi sebelum tahun 2012 dan tidak dapat diakses secara menyeluruh atau full text. Studi literatur ini menunjukkan tanaman kapulaga memiliki potensi sebagai antibakteri, antioksidan, antidiabetes, sitotoksik, antiinflamasi, dan antikarsinogenik.

Abstract

Adolescents health is one of the most critical aspects of health in next step. Health problems often experienced by adolescents are anemia. Anemia is a condition in which the hemoglobin level is less than 12 mg/dl. Anemia is one of the health problems in Indonesia. Anemia in adolescence cause health disorder. If not getting the right treatment will cause reproductive health disorder. The purpose of this research is to examine the status of anemia, nutritional status and identify its characteristics. The subject of this study is elementary school students of 35 people who get from 5 and 6 grades. The research has been carried out at Jetis Elementary School. In this study, the measurement of body weight, height and Hb rate against 35 students. The results showed that the characteristics of the respondent based on the age of majority aged 11 years as much as 42.9%. The measurement results of Anthropometry showed that most are in the thin BMI status as much as 74.3. The prevalence of anaemia is 8.6% with majority are non anemia. The conclusion of this research is the incidence rate of anemia in early adolescent amounted 8.6%

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by persistent hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion or action. Conventional therapy with oral antidiabetic agents and insulin is often associated with adverse effects, including hypoglycemia and gastrointestinal disturbances, which encourage the development of safer alternatives. Yacon (Smallanthus sonchifolius) is known to have antidiabetic potential because it contains fructooligosaccharides (FOS), flavonoids, and phenolic compounds. This study aimed to evaluate the antidiabetic activity of ethanol extract fractions of yacon leaves in alloxan-induced diabetic Wistar rats. The ethanol extract was fractionated into n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol-water fractions. Male Wistar rats were divided into five groups: negative control, positive control (metformin 100 mg/kgBW), and three treatment groups receiving each fraction (100 mg/kgBW) orally for 21 days. Blood glucose levels were measured on days 0, 7, 14, and 21. Phytochemical screening was conducted using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by LSD test. The results showed that all fractions significantly reduced blood glucose compared to the negative control (p < 0.05). Among them, the ethyl acetate fraction showed the strongest hypoglycemic effect (85.8 ± 5.8 mg/dL at day 21), comparable to metformin (103.2 ± 5.4 mg/dL). TLC analysis confirmed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and triterpenoids in the ethyl acetate fraction. These compounds are known to act as antioxidants, stimulate insulin secretion, and inhibit glucose absorption. In conclusion, fractions of ethanol extract of yacon leaves, particularly the ethyl acetate fraction, exhibit strong antidiabetic activity and have potential to be developed as natural antidiabetic agents.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is one of the global health problems that requires alternative therapies based on natural products. The stem of yacon (Smallanthus sonchifolius) is known to contain various secondary metabolites with potential antidiabetic effects. This study aimed to identify the secondary metabolites in the ethyl acetate fraction of yacon stem, evaluate its antidiabetic activity in alloxan-induced male Wistar rats, and determine the lowest effective dose. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of flavonoids, terpenoids, steroids, tannins, and alkaloids. The in vivo test was conducted by administering the ethyl acetate fraction at doses of 25, 50, and 100 mg/kgBW to Wistar rats, with negative and positive control groups using metformin. The results showed that all treatment doses significantly reduced blood glucose levels compared to the negative control, with hypoglycemic effects observed from day 7 and becoming more pronounced until day 21. The 25 mg/kgBW dose was the lowest dose that produced effects comparable to metformin and thus can be considered the lowest effective dose. These findings indicate that yacon stem has the potential to be developed as a natural agent for antidiabetic therapy.

Abstract

Stunting masih menjadi masalah kesehatan yang serius di Kabupaten Wonogiri, khususnya di Desa Sidorejo, Kecamatan Tirtomoyo, yang memiliki angka prevalensi tinggi. Faktor penyebabnya meliputi kurangnya pemahaman tentang gizi, praktik pengasuhan yang tidak tepat, serta akses terbatas terhadap layanan kesehatan. Program pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan menurunkan prevalensi stunting di Desa Sidorejo dengan memberdayakan kader Posyandu sebagai agen utama. Kegiatan yang dilakukan meliputi penyuluhan gizi, pelatihan penggunaan alat antropometri, penerapan aplikasi deteksi dini stunting, serta pemberian nutrisi tambahan berupa tepung kelor dan protein hewani. Penyuluhan dan pelatihan ini dirancang untuk meningkatkan pemahaman serta keterampilan kader Posyandu dalam mendeteksi dan menangani kasus stunting. Hasil pre-test dan post-test menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman yang signifikan, dengan skor rata-rata post-test sebesar 80,7 dibandingkan dengan skor pre-test sebesar 65,2. Analisis statistik menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan (p < 0,05), yang mengindikasikan keberhasilan intervensi dalam memberdayakan kader Posyandu untuk mencegah dan menangani stunting. Melalui program ini, diharapkan angka stunting di Desa Sidorejo dapat berkurang, yang pada akhirnya akan meningkatkan kualitas hidup jangka panjang bagi anak-anak di desa tersebut. Program ini juga menunjukkan pentingnya kolaborasi berbagai pemangku kepentingan dalam menangani masalah stunting secara berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Pedada (Sonneratia caseolaris) is one type of mangrove from the genus Sonneratia with high flavonoid content that has the potential as an antioxidant. Flavonoids as antioxidants can improve blood lipid profiles by lowering total cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL, and increasing HDL. In addition, flavonoids can inhibit the activity of Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) so that it has the potential as an antihypertensive. This study aims to examine the potential of kedabu leaf extract as an antioxidant, antihypertensive and antihyperlipidemia agent tested in vitro. Antioxidant testing was carried out using the ABTS (2,2-azinobis-3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6sulfonate) method, antihypertensive testing was carried out by inhibiting Angiotensin converting enzyme and antihyperlipidemia was carried out by inhibiting the lipase enzyme. The results of the study showed that the total flavonoid content was 24.827 ± 0.327 mgQE / g mgQE / g with an antioxidant capacity with an IC50 value of 54.166 ± 0.558 ppm. From the Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition test and lipase enzyme inhibition, the IC50 values ??were 33.843±0.157 ppm and 63.709±0.819 ppm, respectively. Based on these results, the pedada bark extract showed antihypertensive and antihyperlipidemic activity by inhibiting the activity of Angiotensin converting enzyme and lipase enzyme.
