Abstract

Research on behavior therapy has been conducted on patients with dysarthria, a disorder of articulation due to impairment of the central nervous system, which directly controls the activity of the muscles that play a role in the process of articulation in the pronunciation production. This study discusses three issues: lingual form made by people with dysarthria before getting behavior therapy, emotional influences on lexical and semantic knowledge of the patient, and the achievement of the model of behavior therapy applied to patients with dysarthria speech impairment. The theory used in this study was from Prins (2004) and the method of analysis applied is the method from Nunan (1992)combined with Sudaryanto (1993).The research found that there is an increased ability of patient to talk: nearly 40 percent of the index lingual knowledge or information, 20 percent of semantics, and 40 percent of feeling. Lingual index is significant as a means of therapy for patients with dysarthria. An increase in the speech ability improves confidence in facing social life.

Abstract

Many of speech therapists have given therapy to the children with Down Syndrome (DS) without thinking whether the children belong to mild mental retardation (IQ 50-69) or moderate mental retardation DS children (IQ 35-49). Therefore, a study was conducted to see the differences and the findings showed that the moderate mental retardation DS child dominated the three types of phonological disorders, i.e. phoneme substitution, simplification, and addition. In this research, the last type of phonological disorder was not found for both DS children. In addition, the mild mental retardation DS child responded the stimulus, yet the moderate mental retardation DS child could not answer about 1/5 stimulus given. It was also found that the moderate mental retardation DS child was so sensitive with touching. So, the therapy for the DS should not be the same. For the mild mental retardation DS children (IQ 5-069), the stimulus given to them could be by using flash cards, but for the moderate mental retardation down syndrome children (IQ 35-49), the stimulus should be something real, concrete, or something that could be touched so that they can respond the stimulus well and their language can be better in the future.

Abstract

Background: Anxiety and depression among COPD patients can lead to physical limitation, lung function deterioration, risk of exacerbation and poor quality of life. This study aims to investigate correlation between anxiety and depression with quality of life among COPD patients Method: This was cross sectional analytic study recruiting COPD patients in Pulmonary outpatient setting in Dr. M. Djamil Central Hospital Padang and Achmad Mochtar Hospital Bukittinggi from January to March 2017. Samples were recruited through consecutive technique (accidental sampling). Result: Results showed from 101 COPD patients, average age was 65,54 + 9,99 years old. Mostly were male 83,17%, basic education 71,29%, low economical status 58,42%, married 81,19%, ex smoker 71,29%, severe Brinkman index 60,40%. There was correlation between gender (p value =0,002) and marital status (p value =0,010) with anxiety and or depression. Severe COPD patients tend to suffer from anxiety, depression, anxiety and depression, as many as 34,78%, 100% and 54,55%, respectively. Most COPD patients who suffered from anxiety and depression had poor quality of life 28,57%. There was correlation between anxiety and or depression with quality of life among COPD patients p-value= 0,005. COPD patients in D group often had poor quality of life 82,14%. There was correlation between COPD population group and quality of life (p-value=0,001). Conclusion: Anxiety and depression could occur in every stage of COPD, especially severe COPD. There was correlation between anxiety and or depression with quality of life so thus COPD treatment should embrace the comorbid factors. (J Respir Indo 2019; 39(2): 121-9)

Abstract

Mesenchymal Stem Cells Wharton's Jelly (MSC-WJ) has become a new hope for Alzheimer's disease due to its capability to suppress Amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaques formation. It is found that people with Alzheimer's disease have a lower expression of Sirtuin-1 because of the oxidative stress that was produced by Aβ plaques. Objective: To observe the Sirtuin-1 gene in Alzheimer's disease rat models that AlCl3 was inducing after being given MSC-WJ. Methods: This was an experimental study with a post-test-only control group design, including three groups with a total sample of 18 samples of Alzheimer RNA rat models. Group-1without AlCl3 and MSC-WJ; Group-2 with AlCl3; Group-3 AlCl3 and MSC-WJ. Mean value of the Sirtuin-1 gene was obtained by the Image-J application using a semiquantitative method which was then tested using the One Way ANOVA test. The study was significant if the p-value < 0,05. Results: This study found that the mean ± standard error value of the Sirtuin-1 gene in three groups were 0.18±0.04; 0.16±0.03; and 0.36±0.06 respectively. The statistical test showed a significant difference between the three groups (p = 0.014). Conclusion: There was an increased Sirtuin 1 gene expression in Alzheimer’s rat Model after being given Mesenchymal Stem Cells Wharton’s Jelly. Keywords:  Alzheimer, MSC-WJ, Sirtuin-1

Abstract

Anxiety conditions and sleep disorders in pregnant women will affect theBrain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) level of the baby's umbilical cord blood, which will then affect the growth and development of the baby. This study aims to assess the relationship between maternal anxiety and sleep quality with neonates' BDNF levels. The research design was a cross-sectional study. Pregnant Women who gave birth by cesarean delivery method with a gestational age of ≥ 37 weeks, Totally 78 pregnant women were recruited. Anxiety levels and sleep quality were assessed by questionnaire, and BDNF levels were taken from the umbilical cord blood and then checked using the ELISA method. Data were analyzed by One-Way-Anova and Independent T-test. There was a significant association between anxiety levels and sleep quality with Neonatal BDNF levels (p = 0.000). The results obtained for pregnant women without anxiety, the mean level of BDNF is 2.017 ± 0.138 ng /ml, mild anxiety the mean value of BDNF level is 1.792 ±0.134 ng/ml, moderate anxiety the mean value of BDNF level is 1.708±0.177 ng/ ml, severe anxiety the mean value of BDNF levels was 1.585±0.257 ng/ml . Pregnant women with good sleep quality had the mean BDNF level of 1.969±0.211 ng/ml, while the mean BDNF level of poor sleep quality was 1.673 ±0.188 ng/ml. Conclusion: The higher the anxiety level of pregnant women, the lower the average Neonatal BDNF level is. The worse the sleep quality of pregnant women, the lower the average Neonatal BDNF level is.

Abstract

Introduction: Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder that ranks among the top 10 major contributors to global disability. Schizophrenia is a disorder of brain function in the form of impaired perception, thoughts, feelings, cognitive processes, and behavior. They require long-term atypical antipsychotics for therapy, but they have secondary effects on food intake and cause intestinal dysbiosis, one of which is characterized by increased serum lipolysaccharide (LPS) levels. We aim to examine the impact of omega-3 supplementation on serum LPS levels in schizophrenia patients utilizing atypical antipsychotics. Methods: This research is an experiment with a randomized pretest-posttest control group design and a triple-blind study in Prof. HB Saanin Padang’s psychiatric hospital and the Biomedic Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, Andalas University, from July 2023 to February 2024. The research sample consisted of 15 individuals who received 1000 mg Omega-3 PUFA (180 mg EPA and 120 mg DHA) daily for 21 days, and another 15 individuals who served as the control group. We checked the serum LPS levels using ELISA in duplicate on days 0 and 22. We analyzed the data using the paired t-test. Results: There was a significant difference in serum LPS levels in schizophrenia patients taking atypical antipsychotics before and after being given omega-3 supplements in the inpatient ward of Prof. HB Saanin Mental Hospital Padang with p = 0.02 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Omega-3 supplement 1000 mg/day can reduce serum LPS levels in schizophrenia patients who receive atypical antipsychotic therapy.
