Abstract

Job satisfaction reflects an individual's enthusiasm and fulfilment in performing work tasks, making it a crucial factor in employee performance. Among the key determinants of job satisfaction are the quality of leader-member relationships and effective interpersonal communication. Leaders must align their leadership style with employees’ preferences and establish strong communication within the organization. This study aims to examine the influence of leader-member exchange and interpersonal communication on job satisfaction among employees at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Office, Sleman Regency. Using a quantitative approach with survey methods, the study involved 115 employees selected through a saturated sampling technique. The instruments used include the Interpersonal Communication Scale, the leader-member exchange, and the Job Satisfaction Scale. Validity was tested using Gregory analysis, and reliability. Data analysis using multiple linear regression with SPSS version 22 revealed that both leader-member exchange and interpersonal communication significantly affect job satisfaction. The findings suggest that higher quality relationships between leaders and subordinates, along with effective interpersonal communication, enhance employee job satisfaction.

Abstract

Low parental support and learning attitudes can hinder students' learning processes. This study was conducted to determine the effect of parental social support and self-regulation on the learning independence of fifth-grade students at Fostered Area (Dabin) Elementary School 1, Prambanan District. This study uses a quantitative research type of ex post facto design without providing special treatment to students based on the research instruments created. The population in this study amounted to 122 students, with a research sample of 92 students selected randomly. The research instruments used were in the form of a questionnaire on parental social support, a questionnaire on self-regulation, and a questionnaire on learning independence, which have been proven valid by expert judgment, a validity test, and a reliability test. The tabulated data were subjected to assumption tests in the form of a one-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, linearity test, multicollinearity test, and heteroscedasticity test with the help of SPSS 29. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using multiple regression techniques with the help of SPSS version 29 to test the research hypothesis. The results of the study prove that: 1) Parental social support and self-regulation together influence students' learning independence. 2) Parental social support partially influences students' learning independence. 3) Self-regulation partially influences students' learning independence in class V of Fostered Area (Dabin) Elementary School, Prambanan District. So, it can be concluded that parental social support and self-regulation have implications for learning independence. It is hoped that this study can contribute to increasing the role of parents in providing social support to their children. It is recommended that future studies examine interventions or programs designed to enhance self-regulation and learning independence while taking into account the role of social support, particularly from parents.

Abstract

Many senior high school students face challenges in situations that require mathematical skills, often resulting in low interest and discomfort in learning mathematics. This study aims to examine the influence of academic self-efficacy and teacher social support on academic flow in the context of mathematics learning among high school students. Employing a quantitative ex-post facto design, the study involved 420 students selected through a probability sampling method using a multistage cluster random sampling technique, due to the large population size. Data were collected using modified instruments: the Flow Perceptions Questionnaire (FPQ), the Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Foreign Language Teacher Support Scale (FLTSS). Data analysis was conducted using prerequisite tests and multiple regression analysis. The findings revealed that both academic self-efficacy and teacher social support significantly predict students’ experience of academic flow in mathematics learning. Students who possess strong confidence in their academic capabilities and receive substantial social support from teachers are more likely to engage positively in mathematics learning through the experience of academic flow. These results highlight the importance of fostering students’ academic self-efficacy and enhancing the quality of teacher support to optimize academic flow in mathematics education. Abstract

Resilience of Internasional Students at Yogyakarta State University: A Phenomenology Study. In addition to affecting the development of technology and information, globalization also has an impact on education. In this borderless 21st century, we have easy access to information in the field of education. The ease of internet access contributes to the spread of different cultures, which attracts students to seek learning experiences abroad. This also applies vice versa, information about Indonesian culture that is spread throughout the world raises the interest of foreign students to study in Indonesia This research uses qualitative methods, this research involves 4 foreign students as sources who come from different programs, namely UNY-DISS (Yogyakarta State University Distinguished International Student Scholarship), Dharmasiswa, and KNB (Cooperation with Developing Countries). Data collection used an open-ended interview method. Where the researcher can ask additional questions to obtain in-depth information. The validity results used member-checking, where participants were involved in providing feedback related to the data. The results of this study found that common problems often faced by international students are language barriers, cultural differences, and adapting to a new environment. International students become resilient based on the existence of positive thinking actions and a high sense of desire to learn that makes them resilient to the difficult situations they face. In general, high motivation and desire to learn increase the resilience of international students, as for the strategies they do to overcome the problems they face such as contacting friends or family, writing journals, and doing self-reflection. Keywords: resilience, international student, culture shock.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v14.i2.202469

Abstract

Several studies have shown the influence of academic wellbeing on academic achievement. However, some other studies do not show the same results. Researchers suspect this is due to the influence of variables that mediate the relationship between the two, namely goal orientation. Through this study, researchers examined the effect of academic wellbeing on academic achievement in students as well as examined the role of goal orientation as a mediator of the relationship between the two variables. 295 students of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta from various study programs were involved in this research. Academic well-being was measured using the scale of academic well-being, consisting of positive affect, negative affect, and satisfaction dimensions of activities on campus. Goal orientation was measured by the goal orientation scale, consisting of mastery, performance approach, performance avoidant, and work avoidance dimensions. Academic achievement was obtained from the student cumulative achievement index (IP). The results showed that there is an influence of several dimensions of student wellbeing on goal orientation and academic achievement. In addition, this research also found that in the goal orientation variable, only the mastery dimension is predicted to play a role as a mediator of the effect of student wellbeing on academic achievement.
