Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of glycemic load diet on blood glucose levels of adolescent soccer athletes. This study used a type of quasi-experimental research with one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects in this study were 20 soccer athletes aged 15-18 years at PPLP West Sumatra. Subjects were given 4 treatments with a one-week washout period. The diet given is in the form of setting a High IG diet with High BG. High IG with Low BG, Low IG with High BG, and Low IG with Low BG. The data taken were blood glucose levels before the intervention, blood glucose 2 hours postpandrial, and blood glucose shortly after exercise. Blood glucose levels were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA test and one way ANOVA test (p<0,05). Based on the one way ANOVA test, there was no difference in blood glucose levels in the four groups (p>0,05). Fluctuations in blood glucose levels occurred stably in the treatment of low glycemic load diets. Low glycemic load diets are able to maintain blood glucose levels during exercise.

Abstract

Background: The genetic variant rs17782313 near the melanocortin-4-receptor gene (MC4R) is one of the robust risk factors for obesity and may be linked to its effect on dietary intake, which has different effect sizes between populations. The association between rs17782313 and obesity and dietary intake has not yet been published with the population from Jambi Malay. This study was conducted to analyze the association of genetic variation of MC4R rs17782313 and dietary intake among the Jambi Malay population.Materials and methods: This study was an unmatched case-control study with 110 subjects, consisting of 55 obese and 55 non-obese individuals. All the subjects were Jambi Malay who reside in Jambi Province and are aged 19-60 years. The MC4R rs17782313 genotype was measured using the tetra amplification refractory mutation system-polymerase chain reaction (ARMS-PCR) method. Dietary data were collected through food recall and analyzed using the NutriSurvey. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were performed. Results: Bivariate analysis showed that subjects with TC genotype increased risk for obesity (p-value: 0.043; OR (95%CI): 3.044 (1.001-9.259). Multivariate analysis adjusted for age, gender and dietary intake, showed similar trends: the TC genotype increased the risk of obesity (p-value: 0.038; OR (95%CI): 3.376 (1.069-10.655). Dietary intake, including total calories, fat, carbohydrate, and protein intake, did not show a statistically significant association with the rs17782313 genotype in obese and non obese groups (p-value>0.05).Conclusion: The TC genotype of rs17782313 near the MC4R gene significantly increases the obesity risk in the Jambi Malay population, independent of dietary intake. Keywords: obesity, MC4R, rs17782313, Malay, Jambi

Abstract

Preeclampsia is a leading cause of maternal and perinatal complications. Preventive strategies based on local food resources offer a sustainable approach aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. This study describes a community-based intervention integrating nutrition, health education, and periodic monitoring among pregnant women in the Puskesmas Tahtul Yaman area, located along the riverside in Jambi. The intervention applied the Health Belief Model to enhance perceived benefits and reduce barriers, the Theory of Planned Behavior to strengthen attitudes and behavioral control, and Knowles’ Adult Learning Theory for contextual learning. Activities were conducted in two phases. In the first phase (gestational age 26–28 weeks, trimester 2), pregnant women attended sessions on preeclampsia and safe fish consumption, supported by cooking demonstrations using nutrient-dense river fish. They received fish-based meals twice weekly for six weeks. Maternal health was monitored through blood pressure, weight gain, and symptoms, while fetal well-being was assessed by ultrasonography. The second phase, eight weeks later (trimester 3), repeated maternal examination and ultrasonography for follow-up of pregnancy. None of the participants developed hypertension, fetal growth matched gestational age, and mothers showed improved knowledge of preeclampsia and its prevention, particularly through fish consumption. This community-driven model demonstrates the effectiveness of combining local nutrition, adult learning strategies, and regular maternal-fetal monitoring. It highlights a feasible, culturally sensitive, and sustainable approach to strengthen maternal health and prevent preeclampsia in resource-limited settings. Abstract

Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a growing public health problem, characterized by central obesity, high blood sugar levels, increased blood pressure, and lipid profile disorders that can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. This community service activity was carried out to strengthen the competence of Posyandu cadres in the Tahtul Yaman Community Health Center (Puskesmas) work area in Jambi City in conducting early detection and providing education about MS. The program was implemented through three main stages: module development, module-based training, and direct mentoring in the field. The training module was designed by integrating the Health Belief Model (HBM) approach and andragogy principles, so that the learning process was more participatory and oriented towards the cadres' real-life experiences. A total of 15 cadres from nine Posyandus actively participated in this activity. Evaluation was carried out through pre- and post-tests to assess knowledge gains, and the Direct Observation of Procedural Skills (DOPS) method to measure practical skills. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge scores, with the pass rate increasing from 73.33% to 100% after the training. Cadres were able to implement screening procedures according to standards and explain the examination results well. However, the communication-education aspect still needs strengthening to make health messages more easily accepted by the public. Overall, this program has proven effective in increasing the capacity of Posyandu cadres as the frontline of promotive and preventive health services at the community level.

Abstract

Obesity is a major risk factors for non-communicable diseases, and its prevalence continues to increase in Indonesia. Community Health Centers, as primary healthcare providers, play a crucial role in obesity prevention through the empowerment of local health cadres. This community service aimed to enhance cadres’ knowledge and skills in early obesity detection. The program was implemented through a structured training consisting of material delivery and hands-on anthropometric measurement sessions, followed by field visits to Posyandu to evaluate cadres’ practical skills in performing anthropometric assessments. A total of 15 Posyandu cadres from the working area of Tahtul Yaman Community Health Center participated in this activity. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge, with median scores rising from 90 (range 50–100) in the pre-test to 100 (range 80–100) in the post-test (p = 0.007). The proportion of cadres achieving the passing score also increased from 53.3% to 100% (p = 0.006). Field observations indicated that most cadres were able to perform anthropometric examinations independently and in accordance with standard procedures. These findings suggest that structured training combined with practical field reinforcement may contribute to improving cadres’ competencies, thereby supporting their role in sustainable, community-based obesity prevention efforts. Abstract

ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a significant public health challenge, with a rapidly increasing burden in Indonesia. Community health cadres (kader) are crucial for community-level prevention, yet many possess limited knowledge regarding DM management and prevention. This community engagement program aimed to enhance the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of health cadres within the Tahtul Yaman Primary Health Center area in Jambi City, focusing on diabetes prevention and control. This program utilized a participatory action research approach involving 15 active community health cadres. The intervention, conducted between August and September 2025, consisted of structured training modules, interactive lectures, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), skill-based simulations (including glucometer use), and the distribution of educational toolkits. A pre-test/post-test design was used to evaluate changes in knowledge, with data analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Qualitative data were gathered through reflection sessions and one-month post-training field observations. Participants showed a statistically significant improvement in knowledge regarding diabetes prevention and management. The median knowledge score increased from 60 (IQR 40–80) at pre-test to 80 (IQR 40–90) at post-test (p = 0.009). Qualitative findings revealed positive shifts in cadres’ attitudes and increased self-efficacy in communicating health information. Key themes identified included knowledge empowerment and enhanced readiness for community engagement. Follow-up observations confirmed that cadres successfully applied their new skills, such as conducting risk screenings and health education, during community Posyandu ILP sessions. A structured, participatory, and context-sensitive training program effectively enhanced the knowledge, attitudes, and practical skills of community health cadres in DM prevention. Empowering cadres through continuous mentorship and integrating such programs into local health systems offers a sustainable and scalable strategy to strengthen community resilience and advance chronic disease management. Keywords: Diabetes melitus, community health cadres, health education empowerment, non-communicable diseases primary health care. ABSTRAK Diabetes mellitus (DM) merupakan tantangan kesehatan masyarakat yang signifikan, dengan beban yang meningkat pesat di Indonesia.
