Abstract

The purpose of this study (1) Analyze the effect of the use of inputs on rice production with the stochastic frontier production function model approach. (2) Analyzing the potential for increasing rice productivity through the study of technical efficiency, allocative efficiency and economic efficiency of rice farming in Kerinci Regency (3) Making reconstruction of optimal use of inputs in order to increase rice productivity so that technical efficiency, allocative efficiency and economic efficiency are beneficial for farmers. This research was conducted in Keliling Danau and Danau Kerinci Districts. Site selection is done purposively. The sample size was 80 farmers. The analytical method used to estimate technical efficiency, allocative, and economic efficiency with the stochastic frontier approach. The response of the amount of production to changes in the number of factors of production has a significant effect on farm efficiency. The low level of use of inputs and not optimal due to low farming technology causes low efficiency of lowland rice farming in Kerinci Regency both technical efficiency, allocative efficiency and economic efficiency are still relatively low. Increased farming efficiency is influenced by the performance of farmers in managing their farming and the use of farming technology in the use of certain inputs. Improved optimal efficiency can be done by using the optimal input of the estimation results. Keywords: Technical Efficiency, Allocative, Economy, Stochastic Frontier Analysis

Abstract

This research aims to: (1) describe the general characteristics of lowland rice farming under the jajar legowo and conventional planting systems in Maro Sebo District, Muaro Jambi Regency; (2) determine farmers’ income under both planting systems; and (3) analyze the income differences between the jajar legowo and conventional systems. The research employed a survey method, with primary data collected through interviews with respondent farmers. Descriptive analysis was used to illustrate the conditions of lowland rice farming under both planting systems, while quantitative analysis was conducted to examine farmers’ income levels. The results show that: (1) the jajar legowo system requires greater production inputs—including seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and labor—compared with the conventional system, yet it yields a higher volume of harvested dry grain (GKP). (2) Farmers’ income under the jajar legowo system is higher than that under the conventional planting system. (3) Based on the results of the ANOVA test, there is a statistically significant difference in farmers’ income between the two planting systems, indicating that the jajar legowo system provides a higher income than the conventional system. Overall, the findings suggest that although the jajar legowo planting system demands more intensive input use, it delivers higher production and income, making it a more advantageous option for lowland rice farmers in Maro Sebo District.

Abstract

This research was conducted in Ibru Village, Mestong District, Muaro Jambi Regency, focusing on turmeric farmers as respondents. The study aimed to achieve three primary objectives: (1) to analyze the production function associated with turmeric farming, (2) to evaluate the level of optimization and economic efficiency in the utilization of production factors, and (3) to determine the optimal use of production inputs in turmeric cultivation. A census approach was employed, encompassing all 26 turmeric farmers in Ibru Village as the study’s respondents. The methodological framework utilized the Cobb-Douglas production function analysis, followed by optimization calculations to assess economic efficiency. The results of the study indicated several key findings: (1) land and labor inputs were found to significantly impact the increase in turmeric production per hectare annually, while the inputs of seeds and compost fertilizers did not show a significant effect on production levels; (2) the current use of land and labor in turmeric farming was identified as economically inefficient; and (3) optimization analysis suggested that there is potential for expanding turmeric farming to 1,925 hectares, with a corresponding increase in labor utilization to 31,213 labor days (HOK). These findings provide valuable insights into the efficiency of production practices in turmeric farming and offer guidance for potential improvements and expansion in the sector.
