<![CDATA[This study aims to describe the types of utterances of directives illocutionary act and the illocutionary forces of the characters’ utterances in “The Desperate Hour” movie. The form of data being taken is the characters’ utterances containing directive illocutionary acts. They were analyzed using the theory of speech acts proposed by Searle. It applies the descriptive qualitative method with the note-taking technique. The findings show that the interrogative and imperative types of utterances indicating directive illocutionary acts are applied in the movie. Whereas, the declarative utterances were not applied. The directives illocutionary acts show seven illocutionary forces, they are asking, commanding, inviting, begging, suggesting, requesting, and interrogating.]]>

<![CDATA[Seni kriya merupakan salah satu seni kerajinan. Desa Mas di Kabupaten Gianyar Bali penduduknya memiliki nilai seni yang tinggi untuk berkreasi dalam seni kriya sehingga produk-produknya diminati oleh wisatawan. Artikel ini bertujuan mencermati perkembangan seni kriya di Desa Mas yang sebelumnya dikerjakan dengan tangan (handmade) namun sekarang pengerjaannya dilakukan dengan bantuan mesin karena permintaan yang terus meningkat dan bisa dikatakan bahwa seni kriya sudah diproduksi secara massal sehingga sudah terjadi industrialisasi terhadap seni kriya; mendeskripsikan industrialisasi yang terjadi pada seni kriya serta mencermati gagasan-gagasan baru terkait dengan pemertahanan identitas kebudayaan Bali melalui produk seni kriya yang mengalami proses industrialisasi dan memiliki daya saing tinggi di pasar pariwisata. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian kualitatif yang mencakup teknik pengamatan terlibat dan wawancara mendalam serta analisis data secara deskriptif, holistik, dan interpretatif. Hasil yang diperoleh adalah pemahaman mendalam tentang seni kriya yang mengalami dinamika dari aslinya sebagai akibat dari industrialisasi di tengah perkembangan pariwisata yang semakin pesat.]]>

<![CDATA[The article aims to find the type of language style and the meanings implied in the advertisement. The data were taken from advertisements in Now! Bali magazine was published from May 2018 to June 2018. They were analyzed using the descriptive qualitative method and the theory type of language style (Wells, 2009) and the theory of meaning (Keraf, 2006). The result show that there are seven types of language style applied in them including similes, personification, metonymy, alliteration, assonance, ellipsis, and hyperbole. In terms of meaning, denotative and connotative meanings are implied.]]>

<![CDATA[This study is entitled “The Translation of Taboo Words in the Deadpool 2 Movie Subtitleâ€. This study aimed at describing the types of taboo words found in the Deadpool 2 movie and analyzing the translation procedures applied in translating the taboo words from English subtitle text into Indonesian. The data sources of this study were the Deadpool 2 movie subtitle, both its English and Indonesian versions. The descriptive qualitative method was applied in analyzing the data. The taboo words were analyzed using Jay’s theory about the types of taboo words. Meanwhile, the theory proposed by Vinay and Dalbernet was used to describe the translation procedure in translating taboo words into Indonesian. The results of the study show that not all types of taboo words and translation procedures were found. Through the analysis of taboo words obscenity was the most type of taboo word shown in the movie and there were only two translation procedures applied in translating the taboo words.]]>

<![CDATA[This article aims to analyze the translation strategies applied when translating the word “fuck†in Everything is F*cked into Indonesian’s Segala-galanya Ambyar. By using the descriptive qualitative method supported by the note-taking technique, the data were collected with a linguistic software application of parallel corpus named AntPConc version 1.2.1 (Anthony, 2017). The keyword “*fuck*†is used to create a concordance containing the lexical fuck and its derivation (fuckedness), inflection (fucking), or compound form (clusterfuck). The collected data were analyzed using a theory of translation and translation strategies. The result showed that five translation strategies are applied. They are translation by a more general word (superordinate), a more neutral/less expressive word, cultural substitution, paraphrase using unrelated words, and omission. The translation by a more neutral/less expressive word was the most frequently used strategy.]]>

<![CDATA[Catford’s (1965) classic idea in translation theory indicates the measurability of translation equivalence. Following up on this idea, this paper offers a case study to measure the translation equivalence of English verbal near-synonyms ROB and STEAL (R&S), especially the equivalence at the constructional level. Adopting a quantitative corpus linguistic method and the Construction Grammar approach, we analyse random usage samples of R&S from English-Indonesian parallel corpus for the degree of constructional equivalence along two dimensions: (i) the profiled participant roles and (ii) the grammatical construction types of these verbs. We discover that the Indonesian translations maintain a high degree of equivalences along these dimensions, albeit with few variations. This suggests that the translators attempt to be as faithful as possible to the source texts. Furthermore, our study reveals the translation norms/typicality in how the constructional profiles of the near-synonyms R&S are translated into Indonesian. The paper generally seeks to demonstrate how such a central notion as equivalence in translation studies can be investigated using parallel corpora and the quantitative corpus linguistic method.]]>

<![CDATA[This article aimed at finding out the types of language styles and how it is used by the main character. The object of this article is the main character’s utterances when he speaks with his daughter and his male friends in Hotel Transylvania 2 Movie. The data were collected by the method of documentation and note-taking. The descriptive qualitative and quantitative techniques were applied in accordance with the problems of this article. The theory applied in this article is the theory of language styles introduced by Joos (1967). Based on the article finding, the main character, Dracula, used three types of language styles when talking with his daughter, Mavis, and his male friends, Frankenstein, Wayne, Griffin, and Murray. An intimate style is dominantly used by Dracula when he speaks with Mavis; on the other hand, the casual style is mainly used when he speaks to his male friends. The application of language style by Dracula shows that the relationship affects an individual’s choice of language style. Moreover, a consultative style can be used among insiders to deliver information. In addition, the findings prove that interjection can be the characteristic of the casual or intimate style.]]>

<![CDATA[This at finding out the types of language disorders and finding out the kinds of language therapy given to the main character of Tyson’s Run movie. The data was taken from the Tyson’s Run movie. The method used in collecting the data was documentation and note-taking of the utterances of the main character. In presenting the data analysis, descriptive qualitative methods were utilized to address the problems of this study. Following the data collection, the mixed method and reducing technique were used in analyzing the data in this study. The theory applied in this study is the theory of language disorder proposed by Carroll (2008), and the theory of language therapy proposed by Beukelman (2013), Scarpa (2013), and Adams (2005). Considering the outcomes of this study, the main character, Tyson Hollerman experiences two types of language disorder, namely expressive and receptive language disorder. From this study, there were 15 data found which indicated the presence of language disorders in Tyson. The 15 data consist of 8 data as expressive disorders and 7 data found as receptive language disorders. Furthermore, based on Tyson’s condition, he was provided with various types of language therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Pragmatic Language Therapy to address his language disorder.]]>

<![CDATA[Every song has an important meaning that the singer intends to communicate to the audience. To have a thorough understanding of the music you wish to express, you might delve into its connotative meaning. The aims of this study were to identify the types of connotative meaning from the lyrics in selected song albums by Maroon 5 “Red Pill Blues”. The data were analyzed uses descriptive qualitative method based on the theory proposed by Leech (1974). This study found 25 data, based on the theory used there are three categorize of connotative meaning from the data above namely; positive connotative, negative connotative and neutral connotative with positive connotation as a highest occurrence. The finding show that connotative meaning is becoming increasingly. Common and maybe as a suitable learning medium. This research will provide learning with deep understanding about the meaning of the word.]]>

<![CDATA[F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Ice Palace" remains a seminal work of American literature, delving into themes of identity, cultural displacement, and the search for belonging. This study aims to dissect and analyze the intricate plot structure of "The Ice Palace," employing a qualitative method to uncover deeper insights into Fitzgerald's storytelling techniques and thematic undercurrents. Drawing five essential components of plot, the research scrutinizes each narrative element, tracing the protagonist's journey from exposition to resolution. Utilizing content analysis of the story, the study reveals how Sally Carrol Happer's experience in the Northern environment, particularly her harrowing ordeal in the ice palace, leads to a profound realization of her true self. The resolution, marked by Sally Carrol's decision to return to the South, highlights the thematic emphasis on embracing one's identity and finding fulfillment in authenticity. Through close examination of plot dynamics, this research offers fresh perspectives on Fitzgerald's narrative craftsmanship and thematic resonance in "The Ice Palace."]]>
