Abstract

Technological advances have a crucial role in supporting the implementation of process safety regulations and environmental management in the industrial sector. Technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Big Data have contributed significantly to improving work safety and reducing negative impacts on the environment. With this technology, monitoring can be done in real-time, predictive analysis becomes more accurate, and decision making takes place more quickly and efficiently. However, its implementation in Indonesia still faces various challenges, including high investment costs, limited infrastructure, and a lack of skilled workers in this field. In addition, although regulations regarding process safety and environmental management in Indonesia are quite clear, the main challenge lies in consistency in implementation and enforcement. This article examines the role of technological innovation in supporting regulations, the obstacles faced in its implementation, and provides recommendations for optimizing the use of technology in creating a safer and more sustainable industrial environment.

Abstract

Process safety management is a set of administrative standards and regulations relating to occupational safety and health, especially for processes involving hazardous chemicals. This standard aims to prevent the release of chemicals that are toxic, reactive, flammable or explosive in large quantities. The main goal of a process safety management system is to protect workers, the surrounding community, and the environment, while also maintaining the safety of the business and existing assets. Process safety management involves implementing systems and principles to continuously identify potential hazards, assess their risks, and control the hazards associated with high-risk processes. Apart from that, this management also helps companies manage process safety risks and increase productivity and optimize business operations.

Abstract

The shift towards digitalization in higher education learning is marked by developments in communication technology and the transition from computer-mediated communication (CMC) to digital technology-based learning. This change has had a significant impact on improving student achievement and timely graduation. The study aims to analyze and explain the variables that are problems in the digital shift in digital technology-based learning patterns in SIKA LMS media and efforts to encourage Unindra informatics engineering students to achieve timely graduation by adopting the CMC (Computer Mediated Communication) theory. The method uses a comparative analysis approach by comparing and contrasting data based on categories and variables. Data collection involves interviews with students, blended learning managers, and lecturers. The interview results were processed with Computer-Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software (CAQDAS), Maxqda Analytics application, by identifying metadata, tabulation factor collection, coding system, and frequency of relations. The results of this study indicate that the Code model tendency obtained by a digital shift in the discipline of using digital technology has a very significant role in the change of learning patterns to achieve student graduation productivity; these results are input for higher education institutions in the current digitalization.

Abstract

This study examines the role of local governments as Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in the marketing communication strategies of PT. Bank Nagari, a Regional Development Bank (RDB) in West Sumatra. The research problem addresses the low saving intention of the public amid intense national banking competition, the dominance of digital banks, and limited financial literacy. Using a qualitative expertise-based research design, data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews with local government officials, Bank Nagari executives, and academics, complemented by secondary sources from financial authorities and statistical agencies. Data were analyzed using Creswell’s six-step approach supported by MaxQDA, with validity ensured through source triangulation. Findings indicate that local governments effectively function as KOLs, enhancing Bank Nagari’s image, credibility, and public trust. The personal credibility of regional leaders significantly influences saving intention, though its effectiveness remains limited by narrow segmentation and underutilized digital marketing. Cross-actor collaboration—including local governments, media, community groups, and academics—strengthens brand image and broadens audience reach. Theoretically, the study proposes an Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) model that integrates the Two-Step Flow Theory, Heart Communication Theory, and the VisCAP Model. Its novelty lies in shifting the KOL focus from celebrities or digital influencers to government actors, highlighting the transfer of public trust into productive economic behavior. Practically, the study recommends strengthening local value-based campaigns, digital engagement, and market expansion to reinforce regional banking competitiveness.

Abstract

As a result of developments in technology and information, the way individuals communicate has changed. This is also the case with the SMAN 3 Bandung Class of '82 Alumni Association, which uses a WhatsApp group (WAG) as a platform to gather and exchange information. However, there is a problem, namely that the dynamics of communication within the ikasma3badg82 WAG cannot always be conveyed in their entirety. The researcher argues that dishonesty in conveying messages within the WAG is part of an effort to maintain solidarity among group members. The objectives of this study include (1) to determine the message production process within the ikasma3bdg82 WAG and (2) to determine how the message production process within the ikasma3bdg'82 WAG is related to the characteristics of its members. The research methodology uses a constructivist paradigm and a qualitative approach. The results of the study include (1) The message production process carried out by members of the ikasma3bdg82 WAG, between passive and active members, is fairly balanced. (2) Based on Trait Theory, members of the ikasma3bdg82 WAG can be classified into Conversational Narcissism, Argumentativeness, and Social Communication Anxiety. The uniqueness of this study is the emergence of the Super Conversational Narcissism component, which is a development of Littlejohn's Trait Theory.

Abstract

This study investigates the sociological dynamics shaping the formation of safety culture and its role in achieving operational excellence within high-risk industries. Despite widespread adoption of safety policies, organizations in Indonesia’s oleochemical sector remain limited by compliance-based practices that neglect the social, cultural, and communicative dimensions of workplace safety. Adopting a post-positivist paradigm and a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, the research integrates quantitative analysis using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM-Lisrel) of 421 employee responses with qualitative thematic analysis through MAXQDA. The results reveal that safe behaviour, safety leadership, and safety communication jointly explain 87.2% of the variance in safety culture and 91.3% in operational excellence, with safety communication emerging as the strongest determinant linking policy to practice. Qualitative findings highlight safety as a socially constructed system grounded in trust, dialogue, and shared meaning, reinforced through practices such as Gemba Walks, Safety Talks, and Toolbox Meetings. The study’s novelty lies in its integrative sociological framework that unites behavioural, leadership, and communication dimensions of safety culture, traditionally treated separately, within a social systems perspective. Theoretically, it advances organizational and industrial sociology by conceptualizing safety culture as a dynamic interplay of structure, agency, and communication, offering both analytical depth and practical insight for sustainable safety management.

Abstract

Industrial sectors categorized as high-risk industries, such as oleochemical manufacturing, are increasingly exposed to multiple hazards and safety-related challenges due to process complexity, the use of hazardous materials, and the critical role of human behavior. This research aims to examine the influence of safety communication on safety culture and operational excellence in high-risk industries within PT SCM, a leading oleochemical company in Indonesia. The objective of this study is to empirically determine the extent to which safety communication serves as a determinant in shaping safety-related behavior and enhancing organizational performance in high-risk plants. Utilizing a quantitative research design, data were gathered from 421 employees through structured questionnaires and subsequently analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The findings indicate that safety communication exerts a statistically significant impact on the internalization of safety culture (β = 0.724, p < 0.001) and contributes both directly (β = 0.368) and indirectly (β = 0.317) to the attainment of operational excellence. Furthermore, the analysis reveals that direct communication approaches, such as safety briefings, safety talks, and management walk-throughs, are more effective than symbolic or non-verbal modes. The study concludes that safety communication is not merely an administrative tool but a strategic organizational mechanism, essential for fostering employee engagement, reinforcing safe behavior, and sustaining high-performance outcomes within the organization.
