Abstract

The purpose of this study is to discuss novel approaches to teaching chemistry that enhance students' creative thinking skills (CTSs), as well as the kinds of research that are conducted and the tools that are used to measure CTSs. . This research use the PRISMA paradigm in conjunction with a systematic literature review approach. This method was employed by searching for Google Scholar. The analysis results of eight relevant journals and proceeding articles show five articles discussing the implementation of chemistry learning strategies to improve students’ CTSs, with the distribution as follows: problem-based learning-scaffolding, STEAM-PjBL, case-based Learning, STMCpE textbooks based on chemo-entrepreneurship, and students’ worksheet with the mind mapping strategy which amounts to 20.00% each. The types of research used were experimental methods (37.50%), research and developmental methods (12.50%), survey research (12.50%), ex post facto research (12.50%), and qualitative research (descriptive approach) (25.00%). Instruments for measuring CTSs are in the form of a CTS test with indicators developed by Torrance (75.00%), non-test (interview and observation) (12.50%), and unclear instrument (12.50%).

Abstract

This research aims to explore the need to design a challenge-based learning model (CBLM) integrated with differentiated learning strategies (DLS). The result of this integration is called a differentiated challenge-based learning model (DCBLM). A descriptive research design (survey) was applied in this study. A total of 46 high school teachers who taught science classes (biology, chemistry, and physics) throughout Bali participated in this study. The research results showed that high school teachers have attempted to implement various innovative learning models. Five innovative learning models and their implementation problems were also found and discussed in this study. Teachers fervently hope that DCBLM will exist to enhance and maximize CBLM's assets. Regarding 21st-century learning, DCBLM is highly pertinent, and the Merdeka Curriculum is implemented in Indonesia to shape students’ character according to the Pancasila students’ profile

Abstract

This study aims to explain the effectiveness of STEM-based high school chemistry textbooks with scaffolding strategies to improve critical thinking skills. This type of research involved research and development by adapting the Borg and Gall development models. The research instrument used was a critical thinking essay test. The research subjects were students of class XI A SMA Negeri 3 Singaraja. The research design used was a pre-experimental with one-group pretest-posttest design. The data were analyzed using a normalized gain score and a one-sample proportion test. The results showed that the n-gain score obtained was 0.56. The one-sample proportion test results showed a significance value of 0.001. Thus, a STEM-based high school chemistry textbook with a scaffolding strategy is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and compare the effectiveness of Problem Based Learning and Discovery Learning models integrated with a Deep Learning approach in improving junior high school students’ critical thinking skills in science learning. This study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) by collecting relevant scientific articles from Google Scholar. The procedure included formulating research questions, literature searching, determining inclusion and exclusion criteria, article selection, data extraction, and analysis. A total of 13 articles published between 2021 and 2026 were analyzed. Data were examined using a descriptive qualitative approach through comparison and synthesis of findings across studies. The results indicate that both PBL and Discovery Learning positively affect students’ critical thinking skills. PBL is more effective in enhancing problem-solving and collaborative discussion, while Discovery Learning better facilitates concept exploration and independent learning. The integration of the Deep Learning approach further strengthens conceptual understanding and supports the development of critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study is based on the suboptimal utilization of local wisdom as a source of science learning in junior high schools, resulting in learning that remains abstract and less contextual. Tedung Robrob, a traditional craft from Kekeran Village, has the potential to be studied scientifically as a form of local wisdom. This research aims to (1) describe the process of making Tedung Robrob, (2) analyze the scientific concepts involved in its production, and (3) examine the relevance of these scientific findings to junior high school science learning materials. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with an ethnoscience approach. The research was conducted in Kekeran Village, Buleleng Regency, Bali. The research subjects include craftsmen, Tedung Robrob business owners, and junior high school science teachers. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The results show that the process of making Tedung Robrob consists of preparation of tools and materials, framework construction, painting of the umbrella parts, covering, and finishing. Within this process, several scientific concepts were identified, including those from biology, physics, and chemistry, such as classification of living organisms, classification of matter and its changes, simple machines, energy and its transformations, force, pressure, diffusion, heat and heat transfer, and environmental impacts. These findings are relevant to the Learning Outcomes (CP) and Learning Objectives (TP) in science education under the Merdeka Curriculum. Therefore, Tedung Robrob can be utilized as a contextual, ethnoscience-based learning resource to enhance students’ conceptual understanding, critical thinking skills, and learning motivation in junior high schools

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menjelaskan tingkat penguasaan siswa kelas XII terhadap konsep dasar kimia dan mendeskripsikan dan menjelaskan penyebab rendahnya penguasaan siswa kelas XII terhadap konsep dasar ilmu kimia. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Data kuantitatif diperoleh melalui tes pilihan ganda dengan teknik sampling total, sedangkan data kualitatif diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam dengan teknik sampling purposive. Analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa skor rata-rata indikator untuk subtopik zat murni (unsur dan senyawa) adalah 67,70%, campuran (homogen, heterogen, dan pemisahan campuran) adalah 62,63%, dan partikel materi (atom, ion, dan molekul) adalah 58,83%. Distribusi tingkat penguasaan konsep kimia siswa adalah sebagai berikut: 5 siswa dalam kategori sangat tinggi, 21 siswa dalam kategori tinggi, 15 siswa dalam kategori sedang, 48 siswa dalam kategori rendah, dan 49 siswa dalam kategori sangat rendah. Penyebab penguasaan konsep dasar kimia yang sangat rendah di kalangan siswa kelas 12 adalah miskonsepsi, literasi yang rendah, dan tidak tahu konsep.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the essential 21st-century competencies that urgently need to be trained at the junior high school level. However, reality in the field shows that this ability is still relatively low due to the limited visualization of learning media and the dominance of teacher-centered lecture methods. This study aims to describe the characteristics, as well as to analyze the validity, practicality, and readability of interactive learning media based on discovery learning on the topic of nutrients and the human digestive system for junior high school students. This type of research is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE development model, which is limited to the Development stage. The trial subjects involved 2 content and media expert lecturers, 5 science teachers, and 15 eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Banjar. Data collection used a questionnaire method with a Likert scale instrument analyzed descriptively through qualitative and quantitative approaches. Content validity was calculated using Gregory's cross-tabulation formula. The results showed that: (1) the media was developed using the Genially platform in the form of a responsive URL by integrating 6 syntaxes of discovery learning and Ennis's critical thinking indicators, equipped with a Virtual Lab for food tests, scientific animation videos, and interactive quizzes; (2) the content validity obtained a score of 1.00 (very high validity category) and the media validity obtained a score of 0.93 (very high validity category); (3) the practicality test by science teachers obtained an average score of 3.64 (very practical category); and (4) the readability test by students obtained an average score of 3.67 (very readable category). Based on these overall results, the developed interactive learning media is declared valid, practical, and highly readable, making it suitable for use as an interactive and contextual digital learning resource to improve junior high school students' critical thinking skills. ABSTRAK Keterampilan berpikir kritis merupakan salah satu kompetensi abad ke-21 yang mendesak untuk dilatih pada jenjang pendidikan menengah. Realitas di lapangan menunjukkan kemampuan ini masih tergolong rendah karena keterbatasan visualisasi media dan dominasi metode ceramah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan karakteristik, menganalisis validitas, kepraktisan, dan keterbacaan media pembelajaran interaktif berbasis discovery learning pada materi zat makanan dan sistem pencernaan untuk siswa SMP. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian pengembangan (Research and Development) menggunakan model ADDIE yang dibatasi hingga tahap pengembangan (Development). Subjek uji coba melibatkan 2 orang dosen ahli materi dan media, 5 orang guru IPA, serta 15 orang siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 3 Banjar. Pengumpulan data menggunakan metode kuesioner dengan instrumen angket skala Likert yang dianalisis secara deskriptif kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Uji validitas isi dihitung menggunakan rumus kesepakatan Gregory. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) media dikembangkan menggunakan platform Genially berbentuk URL dengan mengintegrasikan 6 sintaks discovery learning dan indikator berpikir kritis Ennis, dilengkapi fitur Virtual Lab uji makanan, video ilmiah, dan kuis interaktif; (2) validitas isi materi memperoleh skor 1,00 (sangat tinggi) dan validitas media memperoleh skor 0,93 (sangat tinggi); (3) uji kepraktisan oleh guru memperoleh skor rata-rata 3,64 (sangat praktis); dan (4) uji keterbacaan oleh siswa memperoleh skor rata-rata 3,67 (sangat terbaca). Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, media pembelajaran interaktif yang dikembangkan dinyatakan layak, sangat praktis, dan sangat terbaca sebagai bahan ajar digital terintegrasi untuk melatih keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa secara mandiri.

Abstract

Pembelajaran berbasis etnosains memberikan peluang untuk menghubungkan konsep-konsep sains dengan pengetahuan budaya lokal sehingga pembelajaran menjadi lebih bermakna dan dekat dengan kehidupan peserta didik. Salah satu budaya lokal yang berpotensi dimanfaatkan sebagai sumber belajar IPA adalah kesenian Jegog Mebarung khas Jembrana, Bali. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji nilai-nilai etnosains yang terdapat dalam kesenian Jegog Mebarung serta mengidentifikasi potensinya sebagai sumber belajar IPA melalui pendekatan Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL). Penelitian menggunakan metode etnografi dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi, dan studi literatur, kemudian dianalisis melalui tahap reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kesenian Jegog Mebarung mengandung berbagai konsep IPA yang mencakup bidang biologi, fisika, dan kimia. Konsep-konsep tersebut meliputi klasifikasi makhluk hidup, struktur dan fungsi tumbuhan, pelestarian lingkungan, gaya dan gerak, getaran, gelombang bunyi, frekuensi, amplitudo, resonansi, perubahan energi, perpindahan kalor, perubahan fisika dan kimia, serta sistem indra pendengaran manusia. Hasil analisis juga menunjukkan bahwa konsep-konsep tersebut memiliki keterkaitan dengan capaian pembelajaran IPA SMP dalam Kurikulum Merdeka. Dengan demikian, kesenian Jegog Mebarung berpotensi dimanfaatkan sebagai sumber belajar IPA berbasis etnosains yang kontekstual, bermakna, serta mendukung pelestarian budaya lokal.
