Abstract

Morus alba L species, usually known as mulberry, have a distinctive color, namely blackish purple. This color is caused by the presence of anthocyanin compounds which are color pigments. Anthocyanin compounds have the potential to be used as indicators of acid base. This study aims to determine the pH, solubility and shelf life trails of acid-base indicator films from chitosan-based mulberry fruit extracts. The method used is extraction by maceration, through immersion of mulberry fruit that has been refined using 96% ethanol solvent. Determination of the pH route using an acetate buffer solution with a pH of 1-14. The solubility of acid-base indicator film can be seen by immersing the indicator film in water for 24 hours, weighing it to a constant and comparing it to film that is not immersed in water and calculated the value of FS% (film solution). The shelf life of the indicator film was observed using a microscope to find out whether there was mold growth on the surface of the film. The results of the study showed that the pH of the acid-base indicator film strain of mulberry fruit extract, namely, pH 1-3 were red, and pH 10-14 were green. Based on data analysis, the percentage of the solubility of the acid-base indicator film of mulberry extract was 40.18%, which means that the indicator film with mulberry extract was hydrophilic so that it was easily dissolved in water compared to without the mulberry extract of 22.2% which had lower solubility values. Durability for 30 days was observed in the absence of growth of microorganisms / fungi on the surface of the indicator film.

Abstract

A number of studies have reported that the main cause of misconceptions are the abstract concepts and students’ low ability to integrate multiple representations (macroscopic, sub-microscopic and symbolic) in chemistry is also a cause of misconceptions. The aim of this study is to develop the video using multiple representations approach to improve students’ conceptual understanding. The method used is the analyze, design, development, implementation, and evaluation or ADDIE development model. Tests (pre and post) and questionnaire were used to collect the data. A video of intermolecular forces has been developed and tested to 82 first-year cohort students of the Chemistry Education Study Program who had taken basic chemistry courses. The average scores were increased from 57.31 (pre-test) to 78.19 (post-test) with the average gain is 20.88. The statistically significant increase in scores (p=0.000) was found, which signifies that the video could support students’ conceptual understanding. In addition to that, majority of students showed a positive response to the video as 99% (N=82) of them either agree or strongly agree with the statements of the questionnaire. This result verified that the video was successfully maintain students’ attention.

Abstract

Non Government Organisations as known as Kelompok Swadaya Masyarakat (KSM) Mekar IIand Pucuk Rebung became the only Insang style of weaving craft employers in the city ofPontianak were located on Jalan Khatulistiwa, Batulayang District. The Insang style of weavingis one of the features produced by KSM, besides the typical weaving of Sambas. Only a smallportion of craft employers or weavers which produces the weaving of Insang style because it isfeared that the market target is not much, however this pattern is a typical of Pontianak city; The capital of West Kalimantan Province. Decreased motivation for weaving since it faced theproblem not knowing how to understand that is the upstream process in weaving. Training isdone by giving the material about the weaving process, especially the stage of understandingand motivation and business development opportunities to the partners until all the materialpresented and implemented. Participants said that they were ready to weave back and werewilling to support the development of their area into a village or a weaving center. One of themis shown by the willingness of their house to be decorated or painted with Insang style. Thetraining that was done successfully resulted in more than 15 people weavers who haveunderstood how to do the “nganik” process.

Abstract

The level of achievement of students at State Senior High School (SMAN) 1 Putussibau in the material of the mole concept only reached 20%, and this figure cannot even depict the true potential of students in understanding the mole concept due to indications of cheating in every monotonous evaluation. DOMIA (Chemical Domino) was developed to address the problem of a lack of variation in evaluations while also reducing the incidence of student cheating in the evaluation process. DOMIA was developed with the R&D principle using the ADDIE model, and each process will be revised according to needs and field findings. The development of DOMIA took place after the needs analysis process through direct interviews with subject teachers and several randomly selected students. The developed DOMIA was then validated to test the level of feasibility and reliability based on Guilford indicators as a reference in assessment. DOMIA has Kr = 0.97 and Ks = 0.947, indicating that DOMIA is highly valid and very reliable, making it ready for implementation and serving as a new evaluation tool that has not existed in the chemistry subject before.
