Abstract

The combination of high job demands and low resources increases stress among employees, therefore organizations must ensure an appropriate workload. High job demands can be alleviated by maximizing job resources by recruiting competent, emotionally committed employees who are willing to share knowledge within the organization. This current study aims to examine the direct effects and the mediating role of work engagement on employee performance. The variables in this study were assessed through the utilization of adapted instruments, namely the Three Component Model (TCM) questionnaire for employee commitment, competencies adapted from occupational expertise and self-competence instruments, the UTRECHT Work Engagement Scale (UWES) questionnaire for work engagement, NASA TLX for mental workload, and Performance Instrument for employee performance. We conducted a cross-sectional study involving civil servants (ASN) in Tasikmalaya with a total of 243 respondents (Male = 51.4%, Female = 48.6%). Descriptive data analysis was conducted using Stata/MP 17.0, while hypothesis testing employed Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Squares (SEMPLS). The findings indicate that most research hypotheses are accepted, particularly the influence of competence and commitment on work engagement, which validates previous research findings. Only commitment and mental workload do not have direct effects on performance. These findings serve as a reference for Human Resource Management (HRM) practitioners to develop human resources through training and development initiatives, thereby enhancing work engagement and subsequently improving employee performance productivity.

Abstract

Ten to fifteen percent of mothers worldwide are studied to develop postpartum depression (PPD) following birth. Although studies suggest significant cases among Indonesian mothers in particular, the prevalence remains unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate support needs of mothers and identify the factors that facilitated or hindered social support. A qualitative study was conducted using in-depth interviews, both online and face-to-face. Furthermore, 13 first-time Indonesian mothers who had given birth in the country and were above 18 years old were selected through purposive sampling. The results suggested that facilitating social support actions included validating feelings, sharing responsibilities, assisting with domestic tasks, providing appropriate advice, and exchanging feelings, knowledge, as well as experiences. Hindering factors included partner ignorance, lack of empathy, promotion of irrelevant traditional beliefs, criticism and comparisons, excessive support, and an exclusive focus on the baby. Future studies were further recommended to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the experiences of first-time Indonesian mothers.

Abstract

This study aims to discover how Javanese speech levels are inherited and learned by teenagers in Kotabaru, Yogyakarta, as well as the role of families and schools in internalizing this cultural heritage. The study also investigates how teenagers in Yogyakarta use Javanese as a marker of their cultural identity. The Javanese language is used in daily interaction and communication by native Javanese speakers in Central Java, East Java, and Yogyakarta. This article used a qualitative method with an ethnography of communication approach. The authors collected data by conducting field observations and interviewing teenagers in Kotabaru as informants. This study found that the role of teachers at school is more dominant in the inheritance and understanding of Javanese speech levels to teenagers compared to the role of parents at home. The knowledge and skills of the Javanese speech level of teenagers in Yogyakarta mostly use “ngoko” Javanese in daily communication with people in the family and neighborhood. Despite experiencing difficulties in learning and using the Javanese speech level, teenagers in Yogyakarta still consider the Javanese speech level as a form of their cultural identity as Javanese. The process of inheritance and internalization of the Javanese language requires the involvement of family and community, in addition to schools, in shaping the significance of the Javanese language as a cultural identity.

Abstract

This research examines in depth the complex relationship between folklore, branding and social media in Indonesia.  Folklore, as an integral part of cultural heritage, has great potential in marketing communications, but this potential has not been fully explored in a modern context. This research will examine how folklore narratives, which are full of cultural values, local wisdom and the history of Indonesian society, can be adapted and integrated into digital marketing content. With the aim of creating brand stories that are not only informative, but also touch consumers' emotions, building a deeper sense of closeness and attachment.  This research explores various storytelling formats—from visual content on social media to video campaigns—and how each format can reach different audiences. The case study used is Bangflo Coffee, a local coffee brand, which uses their Instagram account to reach technology-savvy millennials. By using storytelling as their Communication strategy, they use culture to build community, shared values, and brand loyalty. This research not only highlights the importance of emotional connections in navigating Indonesia's highly diverse and dynamic market, but also provides marketers with valuable insights into how to leverage the richness of folklore to create resonant and effective marketing campaigns.  The findings of this research contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of folklore in branding in the digital era, especially in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research analyzes the coverage of three major media in Indonesia, Kompas.com, CNNIndonesia.com, and Detik.com, regarding the ruling of the International Court of Justice in July 2024, which declared Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories as illegal. Using a critical discourse analysis approach from Teun A. van Dijk, the research aims to reveal how these media report the ICJ ruling and represent their support for Palestine. Van Dijk's approach focuses on the relationship between discourse, power, and ideology, analyzing the news text's macrostructure (main themes and topics) and micro (choice of words, sentences, and rhetoric). Data were collected from articles published by Kompas.com, CNNIndonesia.com, and Detik.com following the ICJ ruling on 19 July 2024. The findings show that the three media support the ICJ ruling and strengthen the pro-Palestine narrative in Indonesia. Practically, the results of this research can be a reference for developing more effective media communication strategies in supporting international justice issues and building public solidarity. Abstract

Given West Java's large population, the provincial government is compelled to pursue innovative approaches in delivering better public service. The Sapawarga application represents a key initiative by the West Java Provincial Government to meet this need, establishing a digital channel to provide services and engage with its citizens. This research objective is to analyse the user perceptions of and experiences with the Sapawarga application, evaluating its effectiveness as a digital public service innovation. Adopting a qualitative case study methodology grounded in Everett M. Rogers' Diffusion of Innovation theory, the study gathered data through in-depth interviews with the application's active users. The findings reveal that perceived usefulness and ease of use are the main factors driving the application's adoption. However, a significant barrier persists in the form of delayed responses from the provincial government to user-submitted complaints and reports. Consequently, while the integration of the Sapawarga application into public service represents a positive development according to the principles of innovation diffusion, there remains considerable scope for enhancement, particularly in backend responsiveness
