Abstract

ABSTRACT Waste remains a complex problem as it impacts various aspects, including environmental and health issues. Communities that still dispose of waste improperly and let it decompose create unpleasant odors and can become transmission media for vector animals and pests such as flies that carry disease agents like microorganisms, bacteria, and parasites causing diarrhea and intestinal worms. Data from the National Waste Management Information System shows that the amount of waste generated in Jambi Province in 2022 was 352,484.44 tons/year or 965.71 tons/day. Jambi City has become the district/city with the highest amount of waste generation among other districts/cities, amounting to 159,688.01 tons/year or 437.50 tons/day. This study aims to analyze and explore in-depth information about waste management, community participation, supporting and inhibiting factors, and waste management models that can be implemented in the community. This research is qualitative with a case study approach. Conducted from May to November 2024, the informants in this study were local community members in Kenali Besar sub-district, consisting of 25 community members and RT (Neighborhood Unit) heads representing each RT in the sub-district. Residential waste management in Kenali Besar Sub-district, Alam Barajo District, Jambi City is still inadequate, with no processing and sorting systems in place, no official temporary waste disposal sites (TPS), waste containment limited to plastic bags and cardboard boxes, and waste management regulations and programs not functioning as intended. Given the importance of improving residential waste management as a preventive measure against various environmentally-induced diseases, the researchers recommend implementing waste management using a modified Four-D Model (4-D Models), which is expected to address residential waste management issues in Kenali Besar Sub-district, Alam Barajo District, Jambi City. Keywords: Waste, Four-D Model, Temporary Waste Disposal Site, Waste Management  ABSTRAK Sampah masih menjadi permasalahan yang kompleks karena berdampak pada banyak pihak diantaranya masalah lingkungan dan kesehatan. Abstract

Introduction: Early marriage remains a significant social issue in Indonesia, with adverse economic and health consequences, particularly for young girls. In Jambi Province, the prevalence of early marriage is notably high. Social norms, including parental attitudes, normative expectations, and reference group practices, are critical factors influencing this phenomenon. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the role of social norms in shaping parents' intentions to marry off their daughters at an early age in Jambi City. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 200 parents using cluster sampling across 11 sub-districts in Jambi City. Data on parental attitudes, empirical and normative expectations, sanctions, and reference group practices were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using chi-square tests and multivariate logistic regression. Results: Parental attitudes (OR=4.08, 95% CI: 1.74–9.34, p=0.001), normative expectations (OR=3.62, 95% CI: 1.58–8.28, p=0.003), and reference group practices (OR=2.93, 95% CI: 1.36–6.33, p=0.009) were significantly associated with intentions for early marriage. Multivariate analysis confirmed parental attitudes as the strongest predictor (OR=3.42, 95% CI: 1.46–8.00, p=0.005). Conclusion: Social norms significantly influence parents' intentions to marry off their daughters early. Strategies to mitigate early marriage should focus on educating parents and community leaders, enforcing regulations, and reshaping societal norms to protect adolescents' health and future.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an infectious disease that is influenced by the environment and people's behavior. In Jambi City, Dengue Fever is still a public health problem. This research aims to distribute dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD) incidence in Jambi City. This research uses Global Moran's analysis and Local Indicator of Spatial Association (LISA) to determine the Hot Spot and Cold Spot areas for dengue cases in Jambi City in 2018 -2022 with a sub-district analysis unit of 62 sub-districts. During 5 years of observation, the results showed that the distribution pattern of dengue fever cases was in the form of a clustered pattern (I>E[I]) in 2018-2022. The research results on the distribution of dengue fever cases from 2018-2022 showed that the lowest cases were in 2021, namely 132 cases, while the highest cases were in 2019, 698 cases. The results of this study are expected to provide an overview of the distribution of dengue fever incidence in Jambi City in 2018 - 2022 so that it becomes a recommendation material for the Jambi City Health Office or the Jambi City Government in an overview of environmental factors related to dengue fever incidence in Jambi City to prevent various diseases due to poor environmental sanitation in Jambi City. Knowing the distribution pattern of dengue fever can determine regional priorities in implementing dengue fever prevention and control intervention programs in Jambi City.

Abstract

Knowledge enhancement is essential for behaviour change, as it increases an individual's awareness of the personal relevance of information. This service focuses on brief training on cadres' knowledge of Child Growth Monitoring (CPM), Child Development Monitoring (CDM), and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF). This service aims to see the increase in knowledge with educational methods. Based on the results of the t test, the P value is 0.004, then the mean value of knowledge before education is 6.38 and increases to 11.52 after education and the standard deviationis 1.73 before education, then decreases to 0.64, which means that at 5% alpha there is a significant difference in improvement between the average knowledge of cadres before and after receiving training. It is hoped that cadres will be given periodic knowledge refreshers on Child Growth Monitoring (IYCF), Child Development Monitoring(PDA), and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), and other additional up-to-date material so that cadres can provide IEC to mothers about preventing stunting. Abstract

Background: Inadequate sanitation is a key contributor to the spread of diseases such as diarrhea, skin infections, and acute respiratory infections (ARI), particularly in rural areas like Pendung Tengah Village, Kerinci Regency. Limited knowledge and unfavorable attitudes toward hygiene exacerbate these conditions. Objective: This study aims to assess the impact of Community-Based Total Sanitation (STBM) education on improving knowledge and attitudes. Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of STBM education in enhancing sanitation-related awareness and behavior among housewives. Method: A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was conducted involving 30 randomly selected housewives, using a structured questionnaire and paired t-test analysis. Result: Significant increases were observed in knowledge (from 6.10 to 9.00) and attitudes (from 7.23 to 9.13), with a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05). Conclusion: STBM education effectively improves sanitation knowledge and attitudes, though sustained efforts are needed for long-term impact. The study hypothesizes that STBM education significantly enhances household sanitation behavior. The novelty lies in empowering rural housewives as key agents of change, showing that targeted, behaviorbased education can be impactful and scalable in low-resource settings.

Abstract

A quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) analysis was conducted on 15 derivatives of 4-hydrazinyl-6-phenylpyrimidine-5-carbonitrile to investigate the relationship between atomic charge and anti-breast cancer activity (MCF-7 cell line) based on experimental log IC₅₀ values. Descriptor data were obtained through AM1 semi-empirical quantum mechanical calculations using HyperChem. A multiple linear regression model with the backward elimination method was employed to establish the quantitative relationship between net atomic charge and log IC₅₀, yielding the following QSAR model: log IC₅₀ = -415.573 − 224.759(qC2) + 175.860(qC5) + 1307.672(qC6) + 1251.123(qC8) + 1142.590(qC9) − 3606.800(qC10) + 3.840(qC13); with n = 15, R = 0.899, R² = 0.808, Fₒ/Fₜ = 1.002, and PRESS = 0.043. The results indicate a statistically significant correlation between atomic charge and biological activity.
