Abstract

Kata kunci: anak panti asuhan; 4MW; USM; USU; pelayanan internasional AbstractEmpowering orphanage children through the 4MW method (Reading, Writing, Counting, Reciting the Koran, and Entrepreneurship) in Malaysia is an important focus to improve knowledge, economic and social welfare. Children in orphanages that are managed have great potential, but are often constrained by problems of limited access to infrastructure, capital, and lack of understanding in utilizing information technology. The Mandiri International Service Program through the application of the 4MW method is predicted to be a solution that can improve the knowledge, skills of reading, writing, counting, reciting the Koran and the entrepreneurial spirit of orphanage children. The main obstacles faced include: lack of time to practice reading and arithmetic, limited access, and resources for training, and high costs for internet use. In addition, social stereotypes and time constraints also hinder the full involvement of orphanage children in the world of education and entrepreneurial spirit. The Center for Gender and Child Studies (PSGA) of the University of North Sumatra (USI) together with the Center for Women and Gender Research (Kanita) of Universiti Sain Malaysia (USM) created an Independent International Service program with the Rumah Kesayangan Orphanage in Penang, Malaysia through the 4MW Program. This community service program aims to provide training and assistance so that the children of the orphanage understand and are more proficient in reading, writing, counting, reciting the Koran and entrepreneurship. Built up of 4MW concept will open up new opportunities in understanding in the field of education. This program supports efforts to empower children of the orphanage in the fields of education and economy, fostering an early entrepreneurial spirit for children of the orphanage. Keywords: orphanage children; 4MW; USM; USU; international service

Abstract

The Precision Village Data (PVD) methodology has emerged as an innovative approach to addressing challenges in rural development by integrating census-based, spatial, and participatory data collection techniques. This study investigates the implementation of the PVD methodology in Denai Sarang Burung Village, Indonesia, to assess its effectiveness in improving governance, community welfare, and sustainable development planning. A mixed-methods approach combined quantitative data collection through surveys and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping with qualitative insights from focus group discussions and key informant interviews. The findings reveal that the PVD methodology significantly enhanced data accuracy facilitated evidence-based decision-making, and promoted transparency in resource allocation. Community participation was a critical success factor, fostering trust and ownership among stakeholders. However, challenges such as limited digital infrastructure and capacity gaps among enumerators highlighted the need for further investments and training. The study concludes that the PVD methodology offers a robust framework for sustainable rural development and a scalable model for similar contexts globally. Future research should explore its application in diverse settings to evaluate long-term impacts and adaptability

Abstract

This research focuses on Research and Community Service (PPKM) activities carried out through the collaboration of IAKN Tarutung and USU in the field of agriculture in Sampuran Village, Muara District, North Tapanuli Regency. The primary issue addressed is farmers' complaints about reduced crop productivity caused by plant pests. The main commodities cultivated by the farming community include mango, cacao, avocado, and several types of young plants. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a case study type. The evaluation of the program's impact on farmers' empowerment was conducted using measurable indicators, including the percentage reduction in pest-related damage, changes in crop yields, and the number of farmers adopting pest control techniques introduced during the program. The results show that the Community Service collaboration between IAKN Tarutung and USU contributed significantly to addressing farmers' complaints regarding plant pests. The service was carried out by involving the farming community, facilitated by Sampuran Village officials. Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with five farmer groups were conducted to identify and address plant pest problems effectively. The program's sustainability strategy includes ongoing training sessions, the establishment of farmer self-help groups, and periodic monitoring facilitated by local agricultural extension officers.

Abstract

This study explores school climate's role in self-regulated learning (SRL) among students at modern Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Medan City. As the number of subjects and study hours increases, students face the challenge of learning independently. The research sample consisted of 350 students from grades 8 and 9 across four modern Islamic boarding schools. Data were collected using a Likert scale measuring SRL and school climate. The SRL data used in this study differ from those in other SRL research, as this study analyzes SRL based on different types of self-regulated learning. This distinction is important because it can help students maximize their learning potential and assist educators in assigning appropriate tasks. The regression analysis results indicate that school climate has a significant effect on the growth pathway type of SRL, contributing 5.2%, as well as on the well-being pathway type, contributing 5.7%. These findings highlight the importance of fostering a positive school climate to support students' independent learning, enabling them to achieve their learning objectives more effectively. This study recommends that Islamic boarding school authorities pay greater attention to aspects of school climate to enhance students' learning, self-development and emotional well-being.
