Abstract

:  Agriculture is a crucial sector in the Indonesian economy, especially in rural areas that rely on agricultural activities as a source of livelihood. One important agricultural commodity is rubber, which not only serves as a source of income for farmers but also contributes to both the local and national economy. In Nagari Batukambing, Ampek Nagari District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra Province, rubber farmers play a central role in rubber production, although they often face various economic and social challenges. This study aims to analyze the survival strategies of rubber farmers in Nagari Batukambing, Ampek Nagari District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra Province. The research utilizes the livelihood strategy theory proposed by Ellis, which focuses on the utilization of livelihood assets, including human capital, natural capital, physical capital, financial capital, and social capital. This study adopts a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Data collection methods include document study, non-participant observation, and in-depth interviews. Data analysis involves several steps: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research findings have significant implications for both farmers and agricultural policy. Farmers are encouraged to prioritize skill development and ongoing education to adapt to changing agricultural practices, while also diversifying their crops to reduce financial risks and enhance food security. Efficient use of tools and equipment should be emphasized to boost productivity, alongside robust financial management through savings and accessible loans to support investments and manage unexpected expenses. Strengthening social networks among farmers and landowners fosters mutual support and collaboration. For policymakers, there is a need to develop support programs that provide training, improve access to microcredit, invest in agricultural infrastructure, and encourage cooperative initiatives to enhance farmers' bargaining power. Overall, these strategies and policies can significantly contribute to the resilience and sustainability of farming communities in Nagari Batukambing.

Abstract

The study analyzes the relationship between conversational applications (WhatsApp) and social media (Facebook and Instagram) through social capital in disaster mitigation at the Ciliwung Riverbank, Tugu Utara Village. This study used Mayfield's social media theory and Lasser's social capital theory in analyzing disaster mitigation. This study used a post-positivistic paradigm and combined two qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data collection techniques were carried out by direct observation, in-depth interviews, document studies, and distributing questionnaires through survey techniques. Qualitative data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model and quantitatively used descriptive statistics with correlation analysis. The results showed that the relationship between conversational media applications and social media with social capital was highly correlated and obtained a value above 0.75. This showed a very strong relationship before, during, and after the disaster. Users of conversational media applications and social media build social capital to help each other, build social networks and social relations, trust and cooperation to achieve common goals. The power of social capital through the application of conversational media and social media forms social interaction and social communication based on technology or digital in disaster areas.

Abstract

The Marosok tradition is one of the local wisdoms of the Minangkabau culture that upholds the values of honesty, trust, responsibility, work ethic, and empathy. Due to globalization, the Marosok tradition is increasingly unfamiliar to school-aged generations. In fact, this tradition embodies entrepreneurial character values of Minangkabau traders. This study aims to elevate local community traditions as content in Social Studies education (IPS) while also preserving the local wisdom inherited from the Minangkabau society. The objective of this research is to develop a transformative learning model based on Marosok local wisdom and to produce a valid transformative learning model for Social Studies education. This research employs the Research and Development (R&D) method following the Borg & Gall model. Data collection techniques include questionnaires, focus group discussions (FGDs), interviews, and observations. The data analysis technique uses descriptive statistics. The research findings indicate that the development of a transformative learning model based on local wisdom results in seven syntax stages: Bapatuik, formulating essential questions, designing the project, implementing the project, assessing the results, decision-making, and constructing new meaning perspectives. Model validation was carried out in two stages: Focus Group Discussion and expert validation using questionnaires. The FGD stage recommended that the learning model could proceed to the implementation phase with a suggestion to reduce the decision-making syntax stage. The results of the model and learning tools validation by experts in model design, content, language, and practicing teachers indicated an average validity score of 93%, confirming that the transformative learning model based on Marosok local wisdom is valid for school implementation. The conclusion of this study is that the Marosok-based local wisdom learning model has been developed and is valid for use in Social Studies learning at the junior secondary level (SMP/MTs), with the potential to strengthen students’ entrepreneurial character

Abstract

This study aims to critically examine the integration of Sasak local cultural values into the Civic Education curriculum as a pedagogical strategy to foster students’ multicultural awareness at State Junior High School 1 Aikmel, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The local culture of the Sasak was selected due to its rich philosophical values that reflect social, religious, economic, aesthetic, political, and power dimensions making it highly relevant to character education. A descriptive qualitative method with an ethnographic approach was employed. Data were collected through participatory observations, in-depth interviews with teachers, students, and cultural figures, and documentation of traditional practices still preserved in the community. The findings reveal that local cultural values embedded in traditions such as srakala (birth ritual), besiru (social cooperation), drum beleq (traditional music), teacher (leadership figure), and paresean (symbol of strength and courage) can be contextually integrated into Civic Education materials. This integration makes learning more innovative, relevant, and meaningful, enabling students to grasp civic concepts in practical and experiential ways. Moreover, the approach cultivates students' character, particularly in tolerance, mutual respect, and openness toward cultural diversity. Learning grounded in local cultural values also enhances students’ active participation and nurtures democratic and inclusive classroom dialogue. In conclusion, integrating local cultural values into Civic Education is a strategic and innovative effort that not only builds multicultural awareness but also reinforces local identity and improves the quality of character education in a pluralistic and dynamic society.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and evaluate Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media for the Earth and Solar System topics in middle school science education. Using the Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation), the study developed AR media designed to enhance student understanding of complex scientific concepts. The effectiveness of the AR media was assessed through Aiken's V validation, practicality tests from teachers and students, and pre-test and post-test evaluations. The results showed that the AR media significantly improved student engagement, understanding, and academic performance. Aiken's V validation scores for usability, information, and interaction quality were above 0.8, indicating that the media was valid and effective. The practicality test revealed that teachers rated the media highly (93% usability), while students gave slightly lower ratings (81% usability). The N-gain score from pre-test and post-test evaluations showed a 56.2% improvement in students' knowledge, confirming the positive impact of the AR media on learning outcomes. Despite the challenges with usability for some students, the overall feedback supports AR's potential in enhancing science education, especially in rural settings. The study recommends further research to overcome usability challenges and optimize AR's classroom integration.
