Abstract

Digital transformation in education has not been optimally utilized to enhance students’ cultural literacy and character development in junior high school Social Studies (IPS). The limited availability of digital learning materials integrating local wisdom has contributed to weak cultural literacy and insufficient character education. This study aims to analyze the need for developing local wisdom-based digital learning materials to improve students’ cultural literacy and character in Social Studies learning in Sijunjung Regency. Using a Research and Development approach with the Borg and Gall model, data were collected through Focus Group Discussions, questionnaires, interviews, and observations involving 10 Social Studies teachers and 153 students from six junior high schools. The findings indicate that Social Studies learning remains largely textbook-centered, with minimal integration of local culture. While 88% of students show interest in digital-based learning, only 34% are familiar with the Marosok tradition, and 90% of teachers have not used culturally integrated digital materials. These results reveal a gap in cultural literacy and highlight the need for contextual digital learning materials that integrate Social Studies content with local values

Abstract

Kelurahan Tabing Banda Gadang is one of the areas vulnerable to flood disasters due to its lowland topography, land-use changes, and the decreasing presence of water-retaining vegetation. In addition to environmental factors, low community awareness of mitigation based on local knowledge also poses a challenge to disaster risk reduction efforts. This community service program aims to strengthen flood mitigation awareness through the integration of local wisdom and local history into a green movement focused on tree-planting activities. The methods employed included educational socialization based on local environmental history, participatory discussions on local wisdom practices in spatial and water management, and collective tree-planting actions in flood-prone areas. A participatory and contextual approach was adopted to foster a sense of community ownership toward the environment while revitalizing local values that support ecological balance. The results indicate an improvement in community understanding of the relationship between environmental change and flood risk, increased awareness of the importance of vegetation as a natural mitigation measure, and the emergence of collective community commitment to maintaining green spaces grounded in local values. This green movement based on local wisdom and history contributes as a sustainable community-based disaster mitigation education model in flood-prone urban areas.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low learning activity of Grade X students in Sociology subjects at SMA Cendekia Pasaman Barat. The objective of this study was to analyze the implementation of the Game-Based Learning method in improving students' learning activity. The method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) as formulated by John Elliot, which consists of four stages: (1) Planning, (2) Action, (3) Observation, and (4) Reflection. The research data were collected through observations of students’ learning activities and assessments of four activity indicators: listening, reading, writing, and participation. The study was conducted in two cycles. In Cycle I, the average score for listening activity was 67.37, which increased to 88.70 in Cycle II (an increase of 31.77%). Reading activity improved from 65.38 to 90.12 (an increase of 37.84%), writing activity rose from 73.90 to 90.65 (an increase of 22.66%), and student participation increased from 65.77 to 89.69 (an increase of 36.36%). Overall, the average student learning activity increased from 68.1% in Cycle I to 89.79% in Cycle II. These results indicate that the research objectives have been successfully achieved. In conclusion, the implementation of the Game-Based Learning method in Sociology learning has been proven to enhance the learning activity of Grade X students at SMA Cendekia Pasaman Barat in terms of percentage.

Abstract

The Marosok tradition is one of the local wisdoms of the Minangkabau culture that upholds the values of honesty, trust, responsibility, work ethic, and empathy. Due to globalization, the Marosok tradition is increasingly unfamiliar to school-aged generations. In fact, this tradition embodies entrepreneurial character values of Minangkabau traders. This study aims to elevate local community traditions as content in Social Studies education (IPS) while also preserving the local wisdom inherited from the Minangkabau society. The objective of this research is to develop a transformative learning model based on Marosok local wisdom and to produce a valid transformative learning model for Social Studies education. This research employs the Research and Development (R&D) method following the Borg & Gall model. Data collection techniques include questionnaires, focus group discussions (FGDs), interviews, and observations. The data analysis technique uses descriptive statistics. The research findings indicate that the development of a transformative learning model based on local wisdom results in seven syntax stages: Bapatuik, formulating essential questions, designing the project, implementing the project, assessing the results, decision-making, and constructing new meaning perspectives. Model validation was carried out in two stages: Focus Group Discussion and expert validation using questionnaires. The FGD stage recommended that the learning model could proceed to the implementation phase with a suggestion to reduce the decision-making syntax stage. The results of the model and learning tools validation by experts in model design, content, language, and practicing teachers indicated an average validity score of 93%, confirming that the transformative learning model based on Marosok local wisdom is valid for school implementation. The conclusion of this study is that the Marosok-based local wisdom learning model has been developed and is valid for use in Social Studies learning at the junior secondary level (SMP/MTs), with the potential to strengthen students’ entrepreneurial character
