Abstract

Women with breast cancer who underwent mastectomy treatment procedures got psychological problems as the impacts on thoughts, emotions, behaviors and physical sensations. They are categorized as psychological distress which requires psychoeducational needs identification. This research aimed to identify the need for psychoeducation to reduce psychological distress in post-mastectomy breast cancer women. This research was an exploratory, descriptive qualitative study with a thematic analysis approach using Atlas-ti7 software. The target population of the study was women with post-mastectomy breast cancer as inpatients. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. A total of 15 participants underwent interviews. This research found five themes as issues (psychological concerns), namely problems with physical sensations, the impact of thoughts, the impact of emotions, lack of information and psychological support. 5 psychoeducational needs were identified, namely management strategies for overcoming physical problems, overcoming problems of negative thought effects, managing negative emotions, explaining information regarding the benefits and impacts of mastectomy, and how to ask for help to get psychological support. This research recommended five ways or techniques of fulfilling psychoeducational needs to reduce psychological distress, namely explaining the benefits and impacts of mastectomy, early ambulation and range of motion (ROM) techniques, deep breathing techniques, muscle progressive relaxation techniques, self-talk techniques and psychological support.

Abstract

Prenatal class programs for primigravidas are important to improve fetal care behavior and reduce infant mortality. In prenatal classes, there is no maternal-fetal attachment stimulation education program which is important for improving maternal-fetal attachment and fetal well-being. The perceptions of pregnant women and their husbands regarding knowledge and experience of pregnancy as well as maternal-fetal attachment (MFA) stimulation are important for assessing the need for MFA educational materials. The research aimed to examine the perceptions of primigravidas and their husbands regarding pregnancy and MFA stimulation. Exploratory descriptive qualitative study method. Data were collected using in-depth interviews with 10 primigravidas and their husbands at the Community Health Center in Bantul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, using an interview guide. Data analysis by condensing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions, verbatim results of interviews are presented in coding, found categories, and themes. Four themes were produced: knowledge of pregnancy and fetal growth and development; concept of maternal-fetal attachment skills; management of pregnancy emotional management; and husband's support. The conclusion of this theme's findings underlies the development of maternal-fetal attachment educational materials in prenatal classes to prepare mothers for their role, and improve MFA and maternal-fetal health.

Abstract

This study aims to describe how primiparous mothers perform self-care during the postpartum period. The method used is a literature review study by searching for several articles and journals through a search process from Pubmed, Proquest, Scopus Ebsco, and Google scholar. The results showed that many primiparous mothers needed self-care education to take care of themselves and their babies during the postpartum period. Self-care for each primiparous mother during childbirth is very different, one of which is due to the knowledge and age of the mother. Primiparous mothers are more likely to learn to understand themselves in terms of self-care during the puerperium than are multiparous who have had previous experiences. In conclusion, most primiparous mothers are still less able to do self-care because primiparous mothers have no experience caring for themselves and their babies, so they still tend to learn and try harder to adjust to their conditions.
