Abstract

To realise an evolved Indonesia that is self-sufficient and has a personality, the education vision begins with organising P5 as an integrated aspect of the Merdeka Curriculum. The Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) will give opportunity for students to enhance their character via learning experiences in the surrounding environment. This workshop aims to achieve the same purpose as Indonesian education: to provide students and elementary school children with hands-on experience using plants as natural dyes for Dayak Iban Kebat Weaving in Sungai Utik. The purpose of this activity is to preserve and protect Dayak Iban culture, particularly through the weaving method. The training technique employs a contextual approach, combining demonstration and practice. The lecturer was a Kebat weaving practitioner, and the training participants consisted of five youngsters from Sungai Utik. The assessment instrument utilised was a questionnaire completed by youngsters about their understanding of the usage of plants as natural colours. The instruction resulted in the 5 participants being able to use engkerbai laut, engkerbai kayo’ and renggat kikat plants as natural dyes for weaving yarn in the colours red and navy blue. They learnt the natural dyeing process firsthand by observing, selecting, sifting, and removing the boiling water to obtain colours suitable for use on woven yarns. This training is vital for improving P5, as it allows children to be actively involved in learning about and experiencing the natural dyeing process, which at the very least strengthens character and individuality while also providing cultural preservation space.

Abstract

The usage of multiple learning approaches from the remains of the 2013 curriculum cannot be abandoned, especially in the period of Merdeka curriculum. This study builds teacher activities on integrated learning approaches, specifically in Indonesian language acquisition with short story writing material. The relevance of utilizing this model is considered as biased and not in line with the features of learning in the current period. The goal of this study is to demonstrate the efficacy of using an integrated learning in the Merdeka curriculum era. This research is revealed using a qualitative descriptive strategy. In the Merdeka curriculum age, the utilization of an integrated learning strategy for short story writing content is still relevant and aligned with student product objectives. Furthermore, the integrated learning model used by the instructor is effective and efficient, as indicated by the preparation for the organized learning evaluation and alignment with the learning objectives. It should be a source of worry and adaptation for other Indonesian language instructors who wish to continue working with integrated learning models that have the features of learning models in the Merdeka curriculum period.

Abstract

Jonggan is a popular performance art in the Kanayatn Dayak community in West Kalimantan. Jonggan is a traditional art form that has been passed down from generation to generation within the Kanayatn Dayak community. The performance combines music, dance, and poetic recitation to provide entertainment. With the rapid development of technology, the role of musicians in a performance has diminished. The contemporary Jonggan performance has changed in terms of (1) dance movements, (2) costumes, (3) the presence of whistle blowers, and (4) the use of a curtain. In the 1960s and 1970s, Jonggan was still present, but since the 1980s, it has almost disappeared, especially among millennial, and when it is performed, it has undergone transformations. Nowadays, there is a term called Jongset (Jonggan Kaset), which refers to Jonggan performed using cassette tapes (cassette tapes = CD, DVD, or music files on a flash drive), which has eliminated the essence of traditional musical instruments. This raises the question of how the musical structure of the pantun accompaniment, including melody and rhythm, is incorporated into the Jonggan performance art. The research method employed in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach with a musicological perspective. Data can be directly observed from the current existence of Jonggan. The results of the research on the musical structure of the pantun accompaniment in the Jonggan performance aim to preserve and document traditional music materials in a more organized manner. Jonggan can become a cultural-based performance industry with economic impacts (creative economy). The musical structure of Jonggan uses instruments such as agukng, dau, gadobokng, and soling.

Abstract

This study aims to preserve and maintain the traditions and local wisdom values of the Dayak Bidayuh community in Jagoi Village through investigations conducted to enhance understanding of Indonesia's rich cultural diversity. This research addresses the lack of appreciation for the traditional musical instrument Silotuang, especially among the younger generation. In the face of rapid globalization, many traditions are at risk of extinction, making it crucial to document and analyze the values in the "Mighty of Silotuang" music performance, as well as its reflection in daily practices. Using an ethnographic approach, this research involves direct observation, particularly during the preparation process until the conclusion of the Silotuang music performance. In-depth interviews were conducted with community leaders, traditional musicians, and the local community around Jagoi Babang. The data collected, documented, and analyzed to reveal how local wisdom is embedded in rituals, symbols of traditional music, and daily practices. These findings aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Silotuang musical instrument and offer recommendations for maintenance traditional music in social cultural aspects. This study concludes that preserving local wisdom strengthens cultural identity and pride within the Dayak Bidayuh community in the Jagoi Babang. These findings highlight the importance of the contribution of the younger generation in understanding and appreciating living cultural heritage to address the urgency of intangible cultural heritage conservation.
