Abstract

The national history textbook is one of the most controversial textbooks. In books, historical events are presented in the form of narratives that can be used as lessons for the present and future challenges. Narratives can be studied from the point of view of critical discourse analysis that provides awareness. A literature study method with a close reading technique is used to understand the narrative pattern in the textbook. The textbooks in this analysis are textbooks published between 1975-2003. These books represent textbooks from the 1975 curriculum to the 1994 curriculum, supplement to GBPP 1999. The results of the analysis show that this textbook shows a role narrative pattern using a concentric chronological approach, using the principles of accommodative history writing, highlighting aspects of heroism, and using an event approach in the flow of food. The weakness of this textbook is that there are attempts to build an unbalanced role narrative. The narrative of the role of the regime in power at that time was presented with an exaggerated cult tendency.

Analisis data mengikuti model Miles and Huberman, termasuk reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to unravel the roots of discrimination in Indonesian education through the implementation of ethical policies, teacher ordinances, and illegal schools during the Dutch colonial period. These discriminatory patterns were designed to maintain power. For example, the teacher ordinances (1905, 1925, 1932) and the illegal schools emphasized colonial state control through restrictions and even the elimination of educational rights. This article uses a library method, drawing on sources from books, websites, and relevant journals accessed using Google search engines, Google Scholar, the Open Access Library, and others. Ethical politics, a policy intended to improve the welfare of the colonial population, in fact, gave rise to educational segregation between indigenous and European groups. The patterns of segregation, ideological control, and unequal access to education during the colonial period have resonance today, namely through disparities in quality, access, and central policy control over learning spaces for communities in remote areas. Understanding the roots of this discrimination can serve as a basis for collective reflection to build a more just, inclusive, and relevant education system to meet the needs of the times.

Abstract

History learning is often perceived as tedious, accompanied by students’ low critical thinking skills. In the digital era, critical thinking is an essential competence for filtering information and countering misinformation. One innovative instructional medium that can be employed is Wordwall (group sort), which is designed to create a more interactive and participatory learning experience. This study aims to analyze the effect of using Wordwall (group sort) on students’ critical thinking skills in history learning. The research was conducted at SMAN 12 Banjarmasin during the first semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, employing a quasi-experimental method with a posttest-only control group design. The study population comprised 188 eleventh-grade students, with a sample of 62 students selected through purposive sampling and divided into an experimental class (XI-1) and a control class (XI-2). The research instrument consisted of five validated essay test items. Data were analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and t-tests with the assistance of IBM SPSS 29. The results indicated that the calculated t-value (2.259; df = 60) exceeded the critical t-table value (2.000) at a significance level of 0.028 < 0.05. These findings demonstrate a significant effect of Wordwall (group sort) on students’ critical thinking skills. Therefore, Wordwall proved to be more effective than PowerPoint, as evidenced by the higher posttest mean scores of the experimental class compared to the control class.
