Abstract

Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.) is one of the most promising tropical fruits for export. The major constraint toincrease fruit production of the spesies is the long juvenile period. Seedless, sweet and juicy variety of mangosteen had beenfound in Malinau. In vitro propagation technique offers possibility to produce sufficient number of seedlings any time. Thisresearch was aimed at obtaining the appropriate media formula to enhance shoot proliferation. This research consisted ofshoot induction and multiplication and shoot elongation. The materials were the fresh mangosteen seeds from the Malinaumangosteen trees. The explant used in the trial was seeds which were divided into four slices. The use of 8 to 16 mg BA L-1combined with 0.2 mg thidiazuron L-1 resulted in the best shoot induction of 52 shoot buds per explant at the 6th week afterplanting with the mean height of 0.3 cm. Upon subculturing in to the similar media, the number of shoot tends to increase. For multiplication, low concentration of BA (2 to 4 mg L-1) and thidiazuron 0.05 mg L-1 were applied to increase the numbersof shoots. The total shoot number obtained in the media with 0.05 thidiazuron without BA was 11.25 and in the media with 2mg BA L-1 + 0.05 mg thidiazuron L-1 was 8.7 shoot explant-1. The result showed that the best media for shoot elongation wasMS + 1 mg BA L-1 + 2 mg kinetin L-1. The length of the shoots were in the range of 0.5-0.8 cm.Keywords: BA, Garcinia mangostana, in vitro culture, shoot multiplication, thidiazuron

Abstract

Hypertension is a condition characterized by increased blood pressure due to the heart working harder to pump blood in order to meet the body’s oxygen and nutrient needs. This condition can lead to serious complications, such as damage to the heart, nerves, and kidneys, if not properly managed. Data from RT 04, RT 05, and RT 06 in Gembor Village show that the prevalence of hypertension remains relatively high. This community aimed to enhance community knowledge and awareness regarding hypertension control through health education. The intervention consisted of blood pressure measurement, interactive health counseling, and focused group discussions (FGDs) on cardiovascular health. The results showed an increase in participants’ knowledge about hypertension and its management, as well as greater awareness of the importance of prevention and blood pressure control. This activity is expected to encourage the community to adopt a sustainable healthy lifestyle as an effort to reduce the incidence of hypertension in the area.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that often leads to complications in the form of diabetic wounds, which are difficult to heal. One of the widely studied nonpharmacological approaches is the use of Aloe vera, which is known to have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and tissue-regenerating properties. This study aims to review the effectiveness of Aloe vera in diabetic wound healing based on recent literature. The method used was a literature review by searching articles in PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases. Inclusion criteria were studies published between 2019 and 2025 with clinical trial, quasi-experimental, or case study designs involving patients with diabetic wounds and using Aloe vera as the main intervention. Data were analyzed using a narrative synthesis by comparing findings across studies. A review of eight articles showed that Aloe vera promoted granulation tissue formation, accelerated epithelialization, and reduced wound exudate. Several studies demonstrated significant improvements compared to control groups, while others emphasized that effectiveness depended on treatment duration, wound condition, and additional techniques such as debridement. Innovations identified included combining Aloe vera with other natural agents and the development of dressings based on Aloe vera extract to enhance healing outcomes. In conclusion, Aloe vera has the potential to serve as a safe, affordable, and supportive complementary therapy for diabetic wound management, particularly when applied in synergy with standard care.

Abstract

Background: Meeting the nutritional requirements of hospitalized patients receiving low-sodium (LS) and low-fat (LF) liquid diets remains a significant clinical challenge, particularly due to the frequent use of tajin as the main liquid diet, which provides inadequate energy and protein. Insufficient nutritional intake may increase the risk of hospital malnutrition and adversely affect clinical recovery. This study aimed to develop a CAPINA blenderized formula based on banana, mung bean extract, chicken breast, and dragon fruit as a nutritionally improved liquid diet alternative, and to evaluate its nutrient composition, acceptability, and cost-effectiveness. Methods: A true experimental study was conducted using a posttest-only control design with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Two formulations were developed: F0 (without dragon fruit) and F1 (with the addition of 10 Gram of dragon fruit). Nutrient composition was assessed using quantitative descriptive analysis, while acceptability was evaluated based on color, aroma, texture, and taste by 10 panelists using a hedonic scale. Cost analysis was performed to assess the economic feasibility of each formulation. Results: The results showed that the energy content of F0 and F1 was 285.4 kcal and 281.7 kcal, respectively, with comparable protein contents of 15.38 Gram and 15.45 Gram. Both formulations met the criteria for LS and LF diets due to their low fat content. Acceptability testing demonstrated higher overall acceptance for F1, particularly in color (100%) and taste (93%). High acceptance was also observed for aroma and texture in both formulations. Cost analysis indicated that F1 was more cost-effective than F0. Conclusion: In conclusion, the CAPINA blenderized formula, particularly formulation F1, represents a promising alternative to tajin for hospitalized patients requiring LS and LF liquid diets, as it provides improved nutritional adequacy, high acceptability, and favorable cost-effectiveness.

Abstract

Language literacy is a fundamental competence that supports students’ academic success, particularly at the elementary school level. Teachers play a strategic role in developing students’ language literacy motivation through appropriate and innovative learning strategies. This study aims to describe teachers’ strategies in enhancing language literacy motivation among elementary school students. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach using a literature review method by analyzing various relevant national journal articles, books, and recent scientific references. The findings indicate that effective strategies include habituating daily reading activities, utilizing engaging learning media, implementing interactive learning, providing reading corners in classrooms, training writing skills gradually, and involving parents in literacy development. In addition, educational games, especially digital-based games, were found to increase students’ enthusiasm, participation, and interest in literacy learning. Positive reinforcement, such as praise and appreciation, also contributes to building students’ confidence and learning motivation. However, several challenges remain, including low reading interest, limited reading resources, excessive gadget use, and lack of parental support. Therefore, collaboration between teachers, schools, and families is essential to create a sustainable literacy culture. It can be concluded that teachers’ strategies significantly influence the development of students’ language literacy motivation and can help produce active, confident, and literate learners prepared for future educational challenges.
