Abstract

Physical fitness is a need that must be met so that we can carry out activities of daily life well. Increasing a person's age will cause a decrease in the function of body cells which can lead to a decrease in physical fitness, one of which is muscle strength. Upper body muscle strength can affect functional activity. To achieve good muscle strength, aerobic exercise is needed. This study aims to determine the effect of aerobic exercise on increasing upper body strength in elderly posyandu cadres.

Abstract

Introduction: Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is one of the ligaments present in the knee and serves as a stabilizer of the anterior translation of the femur bone. Non-contact injuries are most common in athletes, usually due to sudden shaft changes resulting in tibia translation of the femur. About 60% of sports injuries are most common in the lower limbs, as many as 16% of injuries are caused by torn ligaments from the knee. Post-reconstruction rehabilitation of ACL aims to prevent complications such as swelling, limited scope of joint motion, muscle weakness, decreased balance and restoration of knee functional abilities Case Presentation: A 23-year-old patient came to one of the hospitals in Semarang with a diagnosis of sinistra ACL rupture, underwent reconstruction 2 months ago. Currently the patient undergoes a phase 2 physiotherapy program because he still complains of mild pain, joint stiffness when waking up, limited joint movement. Management and Outcome: Therapy is carried out for 4 weeks, with an exercise program using static bicycle, lunges, single leg, squat, single leg with cone, side step with theraband. Some tests are performed such as pain measurement using NRS (Numeric Rating Scale), measurement of joint sphere of motion using goneometer, and atrophy measurement using meterline. Discussion: Exercises given in patients post ACL reconstruction aim to improve susceptible joint motion, stimulate blood circulation, maintain muscle elasticity and reduce pain. Significant loss of function as well as inhibition of nerves can lead to atrophy. It causes quadriceps to become weak. To train the strength of the hamstring muscles and quadriceps can use close kinetic chain exercises to produce co-contraction of the muscles around the joints. Conclusion: In this case, it shows that close kinetic chain exercises can increase the range of motion of the joints, reduce pain, and prevent atrophy.

Abstract

Introduction: Stroke is a disease that causes damage to the brain due to infarction or bleeding in the blood vessels that supply blood to the brain, resulting in a lack of oxygen and glucose supply to brain tissue. In stroke patients, the general symptom that appears is weakness on one side of the limb which will affect the ability to balance. Handling efforts that can be done are to offer single leg stance and walking training. Case Presentation: The patient is 67 years old, female with a job as a housewife. Currently the patient is able to carry out activities well at home, but the patient often complains that his left side of the limb still feels heavy and his balance decreases when standing or walking. Management and Outcome: The study was conducted 3 times a week in 4 weeks. Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) was given to determine the cognitive level of respondents. Evaluation is carried out every week using the Functional Reach Test (FRT). Physiotherapy management that used single leg stance and walking training which was carried out for 4 weeks resulted in an increase in static balance in the patient. Discussion: Single leg stance and walking training can increase proprioceptive input which will increase the ability to support on the injured side so as to produce a balanced weight bearing. In addition, the provision of this exercise can train visual, somatosensory, vestibular and proprioceptive which will maintain an upright body position during walking and improve the correct gait pattern so as to improve balance ability.

Abstract

Introduction: Long time in computer use and poor work attitude are risk factors for myofascial trigger point syndrome. Occupational overuse can cause adhesions to the myofascial upper trapezius and rhomboid muscles. This can cause local ischemia and tissue hypoxia due to the accumulation of lactic acid, causing pain and decreased functional activity. Case Presentation: A 55-year-old patient with myofascial trigger point syndrome came to the FisioGo clinic Sragen. The patient complained of dizziness and pain in the upper trapezius and rhomboid muscles. Complaints are felt for one week and are very disturbing when on the move or not so lazy to do any activity. Pain is felt to increase when working long hours at the computer. Management and Outcome: After being given a combination of physiotherapy interventions with two visits, the results of pain reduction were obtained using a silent visual analogue scale (VAS) T0:2 cm, T1: 1cm became T2: 0cm, press T0: 5cm, T1: 3cm became T2: 1cm, movement T0: 3cm, T1: 1cm, to T2: 0cm and increased functional activity with neck pain disability index (NPDI) T0: 38%, T1: 20% to T2: 2%. Discussion: Infrared therapeutic effect is vasodilation which can facilitate blood circulation and relaxation. TENS can direct electrical pulses of light to nerves in the area experiencing pain and block pain impulses through large nerve fibers so that the body releases endorphins. Massage release affects the parasympathetic nervous system so that muscle relaxation and blood circulation become smooth in sending oxygen and metabolism to the central nervous system. Scalp massage controls stress which has a positive effect on blood pressure and stabilization of hormone levels because it can reduce sympathetic nerve activation while increasing parasympathetic nerve activation, resulting in a decrease in norepinephrine and cortisol secretion. Stretching can reduce the soft tissue adhesion of the upper trapezius and rhomboid muscles. Conclusion: The combination of infrared, tens, massage release, scalp massage, passive neck stretch and upper extremity stretch with two patient visits can be effective in reducing pain and increasing functional activity in myofascial trigger point syndrome.

Abstract

Ischialgia is a condition that often occurs in the elderly and can reduce their quality of life. Therefore, educational outreach regarding Mc Kenzie and William Flexion exercises is important in treating and managing this condition. The results of the study showed that both intervention groups experienced a significant reduction in pain and increased mobility compared to the control group. However, there was no significant difference between the two intervention groups in terms of improving quality of life. These results indicate that both Mc Kenzie and William Flexion exercises are effective in reducing ichialgia pain in the elderly, but there is no significant difference between the two in terms of quality of life.

Abstract

Background: Aging is associated with declining physical health and decreased quality of life in the elderly population. In response to the rising challenges faced by the aging demographic, this study aimed to investigate the effects of low-impact aerobic exercise on cardiorespiratory fitness and overall quality of life in the elderly. Methods: A quasi-experimental study design was employed involving 42 elderly participants who underwent a three-month low-impact aerobic exercise intervention. This study was conducted in the work area of the Surakarta City Health Service from June to August 2023. Cardiorespiratory fitness was measured using the Harvard Step Test, and quality of life was assessed through the World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Version (WHOQOL-BREF) questionnaire. The effect of low-impact aerobic exercise on cardiorespiratory fitness and quality of life was analyzed using the non-parametric test Wilcoxon Test.Results: Most respondents were aged 60–65 years (66.7%) and female (71.5%). The study revealed a significant improvement in both cardiorespiratory fitness (p=0.025) and quality of life (p<0.000) among the elderly participants after low-impact aerobic exercise intervention.Conclusion: Low-impact aerobic exercise has an effect on increasing cardiorespiratory fitness and  quality of life in the elderly. This finding is expected to be one of the main therapies that can help maintain the health and well-being of the geriatric population.

Abstract

Jump service is one of the techniques used by volleyball athletes. Jump service is carried out using a service technique accompanied by a sudden jump as high as possible or what is usually called explosive power. This is one of the triggers for knee pain or also known as Jumpers knee. The extent identify to which Jump Service is related to the risk of Jumpers Knee in volleyball players. This research method is an observational study using a jump service correlational approach (Independent variable) with the risk of jumpers knee (Dependent variable) for Tadifa Volleyball Club and Jambi City PBS VC Volleyball Club players, a sample of 61 using the total sampling method.. From the results of research conducted at the Jambi City Volleyball Club, it was found that the male respondents were 54.09% and the female respondents were 45.90%. Carrying out the Spearman-Rho correlation test, the significance result was 0.097 (>0.05), which means There is no relationship between jump service and jumpers knee in Jambi City Volleyball players. Patellar tendinopathy is a common injury that often occurs in sports that involve jumping, such as volleyball and basketball. Although this injury has a high prevalence among athletes in jumping sports, especially volleyball and basketball, this injury has big factors influencing the occurrence of jumpers knee, such as excessive body weight, weak patellar ligaments, stiffness of the hamstring muscles, trauma to the knee, poor angle of the foot. more and the length of the patella is not parallel.

Abstract

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is a disease that is often encountered by everyone, including the elderly, characterized by dizziness and a sudden spinning sensation when doing positioning movements that can interfere with daily activities. Treatment of BPPV can be given the intervention of the Epley maneuver which is considered capable of reducing the sensation of spinning in BPPV but there has been no research in overcoming the secondary problem of BPPV, namely stiffness in the neck muscles. Giving stretching exercises to the neck area is considered capable of reducing pain, as well as improving neck function and quality of life. Purpose: to determine the effectiveness in reducing the sensation of spinning, neck muscle stiffness, and increasing functional ability in BPPV. Methods: a study using the case report method in a 50-year-old male patient diagnosed with left BPPV 6 months ago. The patient complains of a headache accompanied by a feeling of spinning and lightheadedness as well as muscle stiffness in the neck. Examination of the dix Hallpike maneuver in the patient was positive. Patients were given physiotherapy interventions in the form of Epley maneuvers and stretching exercises. Results: decreased dizziness and spinning sensation at the fifth meeting and stiffness of the neck muscles which were evaluated using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and a 50% reduction at the third meeting which was evaluated using the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI). Conclusion: there is effectiveness in reducing the sensation of spinning, neck muscle stiffness, and increasing functional ability in BPPV.

Abstract

Stroke causes many complications, one of which is dysphagia which is common after a stroke. Medical complications of dysphagia include the risk of aspiration pneumonia which results in increased hospitalization and morbidity. Several approaches to treating dysphagia can be taken including exercise therapy interventions. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of exercise for stroke patients with dysphagia. The method of this research was to look for studies related to exercise in post-stroke dysphagia and review them using an electronic database. Search for articles to review using the keywords “exercise”, “dysphagia”, and “stroke” and their combinations. The results of data extraction found a total of five pieces of literature which were thoroughly reviewed in the form of resistance training combined with kinesiology taping, group-based training, lingual strengthening exercise, Inspiratory and Expiratory Respiratory Muscle Training (IEMT), and McNeill Dysphagia Therapy Program (MDTP) exercises, showing that training for post-stroke dysphagia not only improves swallowing ability but can also improve mood, quality of life, and swallowing efficiency and reduce the cost of post-stroke dysphagia treatment. The conclusion of the review study was that in general exercise can overcome post-stroke dysphagia.

Abstract

Stroke often causes disturbances in the sensorimotor system, which can interfere with the sufferer's ability to maintain balance and movement. Visual feedback can provide real-time information regarding the position and movement of a patient's body after a stroke, by adjusting movement adjustments and controlling body posture to maintain balance. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of visual feedback from the exercises given on post-stroke patients' posture control related to muscle activity, center of pressure, balance, gait and functional ability. The method used is a literature review through searching Pubmed and Scopus articles with the keywords "Visual Feedback" AND "Postural Control" OR "Postural Instability" AND Stroke which will be identified and selected using PRISMA guidelines. The research results showed that from 488 search articles, 6 articles were obtained that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria for review, which informed that visual feedback mediated by sit to stand exercises, Dynamic Sitting Sport, Sitting Balance, or visual feedback with a stable surface and bilateral visual feedback can improve muscle activity, center of pressure, balance, gait and functional abilities of post-stroke patients. The conclusion of this research is that there is an influence of visual feedback from the exercises given on posture control in stroke patients.
