Abstract

Efforts to Increase Production and Quality of “Kristal” Guava Variety (Psidium guajava L. cv. Kristal) by Fertilization. Nowadays “Kristal” guava variety (Psidium Guajava L. cv. Kristal) is very popular for consumers because it has several advantages such as flesh fruit is crunchy, sweet-sour taste with slightly seeds or seedless, and shelf life of fruit relatively long that can be up to 1 month if stored at temperature of 10-15 oC. The challenge faced by farmers are the production and fruit quality still low, due to inadequate maintenance done. This research was conducted to study the effect of fertilizer to increase the production and quality of “Kristal” guava variety. Research was carried out in farmers garden at Pelaga Village, District of Petang, Badung Regency, Bali, from April-November 2016. The study was a randomized block design (RBD) with fertilizer treatment consisted of 4 levels and each repeated 6 times. The results showed that fertilization increase production and quality of “Kristal” guava fruit compared to the control. The highest weight of fruit per plant (18.28 kg / plant) were obtained on plants fertilized with compost 5kg/plant + urea 200 g/plant + KCl 250 g/plant + TSP 250 g/plant + gypsum 500 g/plant+ micro fertilizer CuSO4 and ZnSO4 1.5 g/plant, respectively, given once at the beginning of the study and significantly different compared to the lowest weight of fruit per plant which obtained on controls (8.99 kg/plant). The highest fruit diameter (8.72 cm) obtained on plants fertilized with compost 5kg/plant + urea 200 g/plant + KCl 250 g /plant + TSP 250 g / plant + gypsum 500 g/plant + micro fertilizer CuSO4 and ZnSO4 each 1.5 g/plant, respectively, given three times i.e at the beginning of the study, at the phase of anthesis, and at the maturity of fruit and significantly different compared to control (7,50 cm).

Abstract

Response of Salak Seedlings (Salacca Zallaca) Growth to Dosage of Endomycorrhizal Spore in Quartz Sand and Zeolite Carrier Media. This study aimed to study the effect of endomycorrhizal spore dosage and carrier media that were applied directly to the roots of salak plants. The research designed as factorisl by using Randomized Block Design with 2 treatment factors. The first factor was number of endomycorrhiza spores consists of 4 levels i.e 0, 75, 150, and 225 spores per 500 g carrier media per polybag, while the second factor was the type of carrier media consist of 2 levels i.e zeolite and quartz sand. The results showed that interaction between endomycorrhizal spore dosage with carrier media did not significantly influence the growth of salak seedlings. Endomycorrhizal spores in doses of 75, 150 and 225 spores per polybag increased root infection and leaf P nutrient content compared to control, but seed height, leaf area, shoot dry weight, root dry weight and total dry weight of seedlings not significantly difference. The zeolite carrier media caused root infection by mycorrhizal was higher than quartz sand media, but the P nutrient uptake and seedling growth were not significantly different. Based on the results of this study it is necessary to make a longer observation of the effect of endomycorrhizal spore doses and carrier media on the growth of salak seedlings.

Abstract

Organically cultivated salak (Salacca zalacca) on dry land had limited production in Bali. Typically, the fertilization was carried out using the leaves litter or other organic fertilizer because the fertility of the soil was low for salak plantations, and the nutrition for the tree was lacking. The present study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of indigenous endomycorrhizal biofertilizer prototype on salak plantations and its effect on the nutrient and total carbohydrate content of the leaves. The study used a randomized block design with nine replicates conducted at Sibetan village, Bebandem district, Karangasem regency, and Bali province. The treatment consisted of 3 levels, i.e., fertilization with leaf litters only as the farmers’ way/control (C), fertilization with indigenous endomycorrhizae biofertilizer prototype (P), and combination fertilization with leaf litters and indigenous endomycorrhizae biofertilizer prototype (PM). The spores of indigenous endomycorrhizae were used for making biofertilizer prototype isolated from soil and root samples in salak producing areas, i.e. Sibetan village. The results showed that P and CP significantly increases the chlorophyll content of the leaf, relative water content of the leaves, and number and weight of fruit per tree in comparison to C. Treatments P and CP also improved the fruit quality by increasing of the sweetness and weight per fruit. Thus, the indigenous endomycorrhizae biofertilizers prototype has a positive effect on water uptake and nutrient absorption as indicated by high N and P on leaf tissue and high total sugar, R-sugar, and sucrose content of the leaves. Keywords: biofertilizer, endomycorrhizae, organic, prototype, salak

Abstract

Endek is one of the fabrics that are in demand by local and foreign people. The distinctive pattern of this endek cloth continues to develop while still paying attention to the authenticity of the endek motives from Bali so that it is easily recognized by the public, however, in its production, it produces waste that causes environmental pollution therefore it needs to be managed. One of the easy and efficient textile waste management is a bioreactor by utilizing local culture. Local cultures are indicated as indigenous microorganisms originating from the waste itself. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of local cultures in bioreactors in improving wastewater quality and analyze the effectiveness of using local microbial cultures in bioreactors for treating endek wastewater. This study applied a quantitative approach with experimental methods. The processing begins with the growth of biofilms to determine the biomass profile using the Mixed Liquor Suspended Solid (MLSS) method, then the color waste water is stored in an anaerobic reservoir for 24 hours then tested and then processing, later it is inundated for 1 hour before parameter measurement. The parameters tested were COD levels, color content and pH. Based on the results of the study, the optimum MLSS value obtained in the seeding process was 4490 mg/L on the 7th day and the biofilm growth biomass profile of 3240 mg/L on the 22nd day. The utilization of local microbial culture in the bioreactor in this study was effective in reducing the color content parameter by 77% at processing times of 384 and 408 hours, and decreasing pH was only effective at processing time of 6 hours and reducing COD was not effective. Abstract

Vertiminaponics is a combination of plant cultivation (hydroponics) and fish cultivation (aquaculture) in one place/land arranged vertically. In the vertiminaponic system, the planting medium plays an important role as one of the determinants of plant and fish growth. The purpose of this study was to find the best growing media for pakcoy growth and yield and catfish growth and yield in the vertiminaponic system. This study used a randomized block design (RBD) with one factor, namely the planting medium consisting of four levels, i.e. broken bricks, malang sand, gravel and zeolite. The results showed that the planting medium of malang sand produced the highest total dry weight (12.42 g) and total fresh weight of pakcoy (240.72 g). The zeolite growing media gave the highest weight of catfish in the vertiminaponic system (11.75 kg), but it was not significantly different from malang sand (11.03 kg).
