Abstract

West Muna Regency in Southeast Sulawesi Province is a new autonomous region where the majority of the population is engaged in plantation, agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors. In the livestock sector, the population of beef cattle in this area reached 23,388 heads in 2023. However, cattle rearing still depends on natural forage whose production is limited due to seasonal changes and land conversion. This research aims to analyze the potential of food crop waste as a source of feed for beef cattle in West Muna Regency, using secondary data from BPS West Muna in 2023, with descriptive analysis methods. Data analysis is based on calculations of livestock units (ST), food crop waste dry matter (BK), waste carrying capacity and waste carrying capacity index (IDD). The analysis results show that the harvested area for food crops is 9,671 ha with the main commodities being corn (6,372.6 ha), peanuts (1,607.6 ha) and rice (1,048.9 ha). The potential of dry matter from food crop waste reaches 33,221.7 tons of DM/year, with the largest contribution from corn (28,676.7 tons of DM/year). West Muna Regency has an IDD for feed from food crop waste of 0.89, which shows that 89% of beef cattle feed needs can be met from food crop waste. Four sub-districts have an IDD of more than 1, namely Wadaga, Lawa, Barangka, and Sawerigadi, indicating the potential for dry mater from feed crop waste to exceed the needs of the beef cattle population in these sub-districts. The sub-districts with the lowest IDD are Napano Kusambi, Tiworo Tengah, Tiworo Pulau, and Tiworo Utara.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the factors that inhibit the growth of shallot. This research was conducted in Pargi District, Muna Regency. This study uses a free survey method with the approach of the Land Use Unit (SPL). Data processing was carried out using the method of comparison (matching) between the characteristics of the land in each SPL with the criteria of the land suitability class. The results showed that the shallot inhibiting factors in the research location include for SPL 1,2,3,5 are temperature, water availability, and rooting media; for SPL 2 are temperature, water availability, slope and erosion hazard; for SPL 7,8 are water availability and nutrient retention; and for SPL 6 are temperature and water availability.

Abstract

This community service activity contained an introduction to the concept of leadership, organization, and skills of farmer groups located in Rahabite Village, Kolaka Regency with the aim of introducing the function and importance of farmer group organizations, in order to increase cooperation and productivity of the community that is part of the farmer group. The main target of this activity is the goat farming community, mothers who are members of the Family Empowerment and Welfare (PKK), and community leaders. The method of implementing the activity was in the form of counseling and discussion about the importance of leadership, organization, and skills in livestock farmer groups. The activity evaluation was carried out to determine the extent of the participants' response and understanding of the activity by comparing changes in scores in the pre-test and post-test. This activity was attended by 30 participants who were dominated by farmers. The results of the pre-test and post-test showed that this community service activity was able to increase participants' knowledge about leadership, organization, and skills of farmer groups with an average score of 80.

Abstract

Farmers in Rahabite, Toari District, have historically operated individually, thereby encountering typical agricultural constraints, particularly diminished bargaining power in product marketing and limited access to information. The primary objective of this Community Service (PkM) activity was to facilitate the establishment of a functional and independent Farmers' Business Group (Kelompok Usaha Tani or KUT). The implementation method employed a structured participatory approach, aligned with a pre-designed activity matrix. The PkM stages comprised: (1) Preparation, involving observation, interviews, and coordination with village officials; (2) Implementation, encompassing socialization regarding the importance of collective action, facilitation of deliberations for KUT formation, board election, and the drafting of Articles of Association/Bylaws (AD/ART); and (3) Post-Implementation, consisting of initial mentoring and evaluation. The results demonstrated a 100% success rate based on established indicators: the establishment of KUT "Tani Mekar Jaya and Wanita Tani Naga," the election of a core management structure (Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer), and the ratification of the AD/ART as the operational foundation. Farmer participation in the deliberations reached 85%, exceeding the target of 70%. Theoretical analysis utilizing the Institutional Theory framework indicates that this PkM successfully triggered three isomorphism mechanisms: (1) Mimetic Isomorphism through the socialization of case studies; (2) Normative Isomorphism via the professional guidance of the PkM team; and (3) Coercive Isomorphism through the adoption of binding AD/ART. Conclusively, this activity successfully transformed a collection of individual farmers into a formal institutional entity prepared for operation.

Abstract

The utilization of homestead land in rural areas remains suboptimal, while the availability of forage constitutes a major constraint in the development of livestock enterprises, particularly during the dry season. This condition necessitates practical and sustainable solutions to support household-level feed security. This study aims to examine the optimization of homestead land through the cultivation of odot grass (Pennisetum purpureum cv. Mott) and to enhance community knowledge and skills in forage provision. The method employed was a participatory approach using a learning by doing model, in which community members were directly involved in all stages of the activities. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate an improvement in community knowledge and technical skills related to odot grass cultivation, as well as increased utilization of homestead land as a source of livestock feed. Furthermore, the program encouraged active community participation in managing local resources. This community service activity provides a practical contribution in the form of an applicable and sustainable community empowerment model to support the availability of livestock feed based on local potential. Keywords: Homestead land; Odot grass; Livestock feed.

Abstract

This community service program aims to empower the Mandiri Sejahtera Farmers Group in Wowoli Village, Toari District, Kolaka Regency, through training in chili sauce production. The main challenges faced by farmers are low chili prices during the main harvest and losses due to rapid chili perishability due to lack of post-harvest handling. The program was implemented in a participatory manner, based on the principle of learning by doing. This included outreach, preparation of ingredients and tools, training in chili sauce production (boiling, crushing, mixing spices, heating, and packaging), mentoring participants, and evaluation through discussions and questions and answers. The results of the program demonstrated improved skills and understanding of chili processing technology, the creation of a local product called "SCW-Wowoli Chili Sauce," and the development of a follow-up plan for legality and marketing. This activity contributed to increasing the added value of chilies, strengthening the local economy, and empowering the farmer group members.

Abstract

Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum remains a major limitation in shallot (Allium cepa L.) cultivation, severely reducing yield and crop quality. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of native rhizobacterial isolates as biological inducers of resistance against Fusarium wilt under different organic growing media. A split-plot randomized complete block design was applied using three growing media (rice husk charcoal, manure, and their combination) and four rhizobacterial treatments (control and three local isolates: R1–R3) with three replications. Key physiological assays included the measurement of salicylic acid (SA) content and peroxidase (POX) enzyme activity as biochemical indicators of induced resistance. Results showed that the isolate from Waitii Village (R3) significantly reduced disease incidence to 52.67% compared with 86.56% in the control, while the combined organic medium (M2) further enhanced plant resistance. Increased SA (26.82 ppm) and POX activity exhibited strong negative correlations with disease incidence (R² = 0.60 and R² = 0.71, respectively), indicating their pivotal role in rhizobacteria-mediated defense activation. These findings confirm that indigenous rhizobacteria, when combined with organic amendments, effectively stimulate systemic acquired resistance and mitigate the severity of Fusarium wilt in shallots. The study highlights the potential of the R3 isolate as a sustainable bioinoculant candidate for integrated disease management. Further molecular identification, in vitro antagonism testing, and multi-location field validation are recommended to ensure its stability, efficacy, and applicability under diverse agroecological conditions.
