Abstract

Carocok Tarusan Fishing Port is one of the fishing ports in West Sumatra Province and is a place for fishing activities in Pesisir Selatan Regency with high productivity. Factors that affect the productivity of fishermen include social and economic factors, such as the amount of capital, number of ships, number of workers, distance traveled at sea, and experience. The fishing fleet commonly used is Bagan, with as many as 171 units. Bagan ships in the Carocok Tarusan are dominated by ships measuring ≤30 GT, as many as 162 ships, while those measuring >30 GT are nine ships widely used by fishermen in the Carocok Tarusan Waters are ships measuring ≤30GT. This study aimed to determine the productivity of Bagan Perahu catches based on differences in ship size. This study was conducted from July 2023 to August 2023. The method used in this study was the survey method, with direct observation in the field, conducting interviews with fishermen, and recording the catch using a bagan ship. The types of fish caught using Bagan are Anchovi, Mackerel Scad, and Mackerel Tuna (main catch). Peperek fish, skipjack tuna, Indian Mackerel, Selar fish and Squid (bycatch). Based on the study's results, it can be concluded that in the waters of the Carocok Tarusan, Anchovies are the most commonly caught catch using a boat lift net. Ships measuring 1-10 GT have a higher productivity value than ships measuring 11-20 GT and ships measuring 21-30 GT. With a correlation value (R) approaching 1, the relationship between the dependent variable and the independent variable is stated to be very strong. Meanwhile, the results of multiple linear regression show that 81.14% is influenced by the independent variables (trip, ship size (GT), crew, fuel, and logistics).

Abstract

The Karimata Strait possesses unique characteristics influenced by its geographical location and the local, regional, and global impacts on its physical, biological, and chemical parameters, contributing to its potential as a significant fishing ground. This study aims to observe and analyze the physical oceanographic parameters, including temperature, salinity, and sea surface currents, within the Karimata Strait. The dataset comprises monthly averaged data, resulting in a single representative value for each month. Key physical parameters examined include temperature, salinity, and the horizontal (u) and vertical (v) current components. The patterns of sea surface temperature (SST) and salinity distribution in the Karimata Strait exhibit significant variations between the west and east monsoons. During the west monsoon season, the South China Sea influenced the region with lower SST and higher salinity than the Java Sea. In contrast, the east monsoon demonstrates an inverse pattern with warmer, fresher waters from the Java Sea moving towards the strait. Additionally, the horizontal distribution of these parameters highlights the critical role of sea currents in dispersing physical oceanographic characteristics within the region. These findings underscore the dynamic nature of the Karimata Strait's oceanography, influenced by seasonal monsoon shifts, water masses from adjacent seas, and freshwater inputs from rivers, crucial for understanding the broader Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) system and its implications for regional climate and marine ecosystems

Abstract

Grouper (Epinephelus Sp.) is an economically important fish that lives in coral reefs and is widely consumed by the public. It is necessary to analyze the relationship between the length and weight of fish at the Kaliadem fish landing site and Muara Angke market. This research aims to determine the relationship between length and weight of fish. Data on the length and weight of the fish were taken from a sample of 20 grouper fish sold at the two locations. This Research was carried out in April 2018. This study used survey method, observation of grouper morphology. The analysis used in this research uses multiple linear regression analysis. The research showed that grouper fish had a length range of 128 mm – 169 mm and a weight range of 31 g – 65 g with an average length of 144.5 mm and an average weight of 42.75. The results of linear regression on the relationship between the length and weight of grouper fish samples produced a regression equation Y = 2.7424x – 9.8972 with a value of b = 2.74 and a coefficient of determination of 0.9281. significant b < 3 means the allomatric growth pattern is negative and 98.97% of changes in fish weight occur due to an increase in fish length, while 1.03% is caused by other factors. It can be concluded that length growth is faster than weight gain in grouper fish. The condition factor value of the grouper this research had a Fulton condition factor value (K) ranging from 2.95 to 3.17 and a relative weight (Wr) ranging from 86.50 to 106.41 with an average Wr value of 100.31.

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out in Kuala Tungkal, Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency, Jambi Province, to address the challenges faced by fishermen in identifying potential fishing grounds. The primary focus was creating a map of potential fishing grounds based on oceanographic data to enhance the efficiency and productivity of fishermen. The methods included collecting oceanographic data, satellite imagery, and performing geospatial analysis using ArcGIS 10.8 software to predict and map the potential fishing grounds. Training sessions were held to teach fishermen how to use GPS and fishing ground maps, enabling them to predict and navigate fishing locations more effectively. This activity was carried out by involving several participations; fishermen, local government, and Fisheries Service of Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency. The map produced by the team depicts strategic locations in the waters of Kuala Tungkal (FMA 711) based on sea surface temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a indicators. There are 105,633 potential fishing points being identified in this area. SST values range from 28.2°C to 32°C, and chlorophyll-a values range from 0.2 mg/m³ to 2 mg/m³.  The training outcomes demonstrated that most fishermen could effectively use GPS and the fishing ground map during fishing operations. The active participation of fishermen and the provision of technology training is pivotal in the program’s success. Consequently, the utilization of potential fishing ground maps based on oceanographic data has the potential to enhance fishermen's performance and contribute to sustainable fisheries resource management in the FMA 711 area.
