Abstract

Goldfish (Cyprinus carpio) is a freshwater fish species that is highly favored in aquaculture due to the ease of its seed production, and the demand for goldfish seed sales is increasing. A constraint that affects the success rate of goldfish farming is the emergence of fungal infections during egg hatching stages. One of the efforts that can be made to prevent fungal infections during goldfish egg hatching is by immersing the eggs in meniran extract (Phyllanthus niruri) for a certain duration to achieve the best results. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the duration of meniran extract immersion on carp eggs, which provides the best hatching rate and larval survival and is free from fungal attacks. The test materials used were meniran extract solution and carp eggs. The method used was an experiment with a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments, each with 3 replications with different durations of meniran extract immersion. Treatments A (0 minutes), B (10 minutes), C (20 minutes), D (30 minutes), and E (40 minutes) The results of the study showed that the immersion of Phyllanthus niruri extract solution had a significant effect (P 0.05) on the hatchability and survival rate of Cyprinus carpio with regards to the prevalence of fungus but did not have a significant effect (P > 0.05) on the yolk sac absorption time. The optimal immersion time for Phyllanthus niruri extract on Cyprinus carpio eggs with regards to the prevalence of fungus, hatchability, and survival rate of the larvae was in treatment D (30 minutes), which resulted in a prevalence of fungus of 5.33 2.52%, a hatching rate (HR) of 94.54 2.52%, and a larval survival rate (SR) of 93.1 1.62%.

Abstract

This study presents a performance evaluation of a 7×4 propeller using both experimental and computational approaches. A test bench was developed to measure static thrust and power consumption across various rotational speeds (RPM), while Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations were performed using ANSYS CFX to analyze the aerodynamic behavior and thrust generation under identical conditions. The experimental setup employed an Arduino-based system integrated with sensors for thrust, voltage, current, and RPM measurements. Thrust values increased proportionally with RPM, reaching a maximum of 2.7468 N at 9000 RPM. In comparison, the CFD simulation predicted a higher thrust of 3.6358 N at the same speed. Although some deviations were observed—particularly at higher RPMs—the overall trends between experimental and CFD results were consistent, indicating that both methods effectively capture the propeller’s performance characteristics. The findings confirm that the test bench provides reliable measurements under static conditions and that CFD can serve as a predictive tool for propeller performance. Further improvements through dynamic testing and simulation refinement are recommended to enhance accuracy and represent real-world flight conditions.

Abstract

Litopenaeus vannamei is a key species in global aquaculture; however, its susceptibility to vibriosis presents a persistent challenge. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation with alginate and Spirulina hot water extract (SWE) on the immune response and gene expression associated with pathogen resistance. Shrimp fed diets containing 3 g·kg⁻¹ of alginate and 5 mg·kg⁻¹ of SWE exhibited marked improvements in immune parameters, including total hemocyte count, phagocytic activity, phagocytic index, phenoloxidase activity, and superoxide dismutase levels, as measured on days 3 and 7 (P< 0.05). Following challenge with Vibrio parahaemolyticus, V. vulnificus, and V. harveyi, treated shrimp demonstrated a 90% survival rate compared to 0% in the control group. Gene expression analysis revealed a 2-fold and 1.5-fold upregulation of prophenoloxidase (proPO) and lipopolysaccharide β-glucan binding protein (LGBP), respectively, indicating the activation of the proPO cascade and pathogen recognition pathways. These results provide direct evidence that alginate and SWE act as immunostimulants by modulating hemocyte function and immune-related gene expression. The findings of the present study suggest that oral supplementation with these natural bioactive compounds can serve as a functional dietary strategy to enhance disease resilience in shrimp and promote more sustainable aquaculture systems, in seven days period.
