Abstract

This research intended to evaluate the proximate composition and palm juice glycemic index. The analysis of water, protein, and ash contents used the oven, semi-micro Kjeldahl, and thermogravimetry methods, respectively. Meanwhile, fat, carbohydrate, and sugar contents were analyzed by relying on direct extrusion method with a Soxhlet, by difference method , and Luff Schoorl method, respectively. Further, the analysis of the glycemic index employed the calculation of area under the curve using the finger-prick capillary blood method. The measurement of blood glucose levels was done to ten respondents who were given pure glucose and palm juice. The results revealed that palm juice contained 91.1% water, 0.28% ash, 0.41% protein, 0% fat, 8.21% carbohydrate, and 0,67% sugar. The average blood glucose of the respondents after consuming pure glucose and palm juice in minute 0, 30, 60, 90, and 120 arrived at 93.2 mg/dL, 155.4 mg/dL, 124.2 mg/dL, 93.8 mg/dL, 79.1 mg/dL, and 81.8 mg/dL, 118.6 mg/dL, 92.6 mg/dL, 74.1 mg/dL, and 63.7 mg/dL. The value of the palm juice glycemic index was 35.56 (low category), so that this juice could function as an alternative drink to maintain blood glucose levels.

Abstract

The objective of the present work was aimed at analyzing the number of bacteria in Anadara granosa shell Toothpaste with the addition of Citrus medica with different storage duration. Relying on a completely randomized design, the factors of this research consisted of two, namely v me of the extract of Citrus medica with different treatments (0 mL, 2 mL, 4 mL, and 6 mL) and the storage duration with different treatments (1 day, 7 days, 14 days, 21 days, and 28 days) with six replications.  A total plate count (TPC) method was applied in calculating of bacteria. The data were analyzed using a two-way ANOVA and a DMRT test with a significance of 5%. The results found that the provision of Citrus medica with different storage times interacted significantly (p = 0.00) on the number bacteria in Anadara granosa shell Toothpaste. The Number of bacteria of Anadara granosa toothpaste with the addition of 6 mL of Citrus medica stored for 28 days was 9.0 x 101; this was within the normal limit set by the Indonesian National Standard (SNI).

Abstract

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the percentage of protective antibody titers of Avian influenza (AI) and the application of biosecurity in Filipino chicken farms in Gorontalo City. This research used direct observation of the application of biosecurity on farms, and data on Avian influenza antibody titers were obtained based on the results of tests conducted during the intership at Class II Agricultural Quarantine Center of Gorontalo. Data analysis was carried out ini a qualitative descriptive manner. The results showed that the percentage of protective antibody titers for Avian influenza (AI) in the 3 Filipino chicken farms was 3.22% in farm ZD, 0% in farm MCY, and 0% in farm AT. The percentage obtained shows that the presence and spread of Avian influenza in the 3 Filipino chicken farms in Gorontalo City is still low. The application of biosecurity on farms shows that the 3 Filipino chicken farms in Gorontalo City were focused on isolation and sanitation, although the implementation was still lacking in detail and comprehensiveness. The focus of biosecurity on isolation and sanitation components causes weaknesses in traffic control components. Keyword: Avian influenza antibody titer, protective antibody, application of biosecurity, Filipino chicken
