Abstract

Infrastructure development has both negative and positive impacts on the surrounding area. Economics growth, improved living standards, education levels, and easy access are the positive impacts of infrastructure development, meanwhile, it also has the consequences on the naturalresource use and environmental impacts from unsustainable consumption and socio-economic consequences for people around the developed areas. With the currently limited land, management needs to be addressed wisely in areas with high demand for land. Infrastructure can be a catalyst for land use change. This study aims to determine land use changes that occurred in 2005, 2010, & 2020 and analyze its driving factors. We used time series data from Landsat imagery taken from Landsat 5 TM (2005 & 2010) and Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS (2020). Visual analysis method was used to identify and classify the eight land use types per each period of Landsat image series. A simple overlay method was applied to determine the effect of the factors of distance from JT Jagorawi, from arterial collector roads, from GT Jagorawi, and from the government center; and population density. The results show that the built-up area increased from 29.72% in 2005, 32.03% in 2010 and 35.82% in 2020. The range distance that has a potential change in land cover is 4 km from JT Jagorawi & GT Jagorawi; 1 km distance from arterial and collector roads; 7.5 km distance from the government center with a population density of < 5,000 to 10,000 people km2.

Abstract

Salah satu ekosistem pesisir yang paling produktif adalah hutan bakau, yang memberikan berbagai keuntungan ekologis. Oleh karena itu, penting untuk mengidentifikasi dengan akurat wilayah vegetasi bakau guna melestarikan, mempertahankan, dan mengatur program pengembangan regional dari sudut pandang lingkungan. Untuk melacak perubahan luas vegetasi bakau di Pulau Tuangku (Taman Alam Laut Kepulauan Banyak/BIMNP) antara tahun 2010 dan 2020, studi ini menggunakan citra Landsat dan ALOS PALSAR. Melalui platform Google Earth Engine (GEE) dan kombinasi indeks spektral (NDVI, NDMI, MNDWI, dan MVI) diperiksa menggunakan klasifikasi hutan acak (random forest classification) berbasis tree-based Machine Learning Algortithm. Berdasarkan hasil studi ini, total estimasi luas hutan bakau adalah 818,21 ha pada tahun 2010, 939,91 ha pada tahun 2015, dan 899,96 ha pada tahun 2020. Luas vegetasi bakau meningkat sepanjang pemrosesan citra ALOS PALSAR dari tahun 2010 hingga 2015, namun mengalami penurunan antara tahun 2015 dan 2020. Hasil studi ini dapat membantu BIMNP dalam mengembangkan ekowisata yang bertanggung jawab secara lingkungan di area yang dilindungi.

Abstract

Andaliman breeding and regeneration (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC.) in its natural habitat tends to be slow and difficult. The purpose of this research was to determine the distribution pattern, spatial character, and potential suitable habitat for andaliman growth with a suitability model approach in Samosir island, North Sumatera. Andaliman distribution pattern based on the calculation of the Standard Morisita Index (Ip) shows various patterns. There are three categories of distribution pattern, depends on the Standard Morisita Index  The distribution patterns on each plot based on the calculation are: random (Location 1 – open area (Ip = 0.00)), uniform (Location 2 – plantation forest (Ip = -0.77); Location 3 –  open field (Ip = -0.09)), and clump (Location 4 – plantation forest (Ip = 0.36)). Analysis of habitat suitability for andaliman used spatial modelling with the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) approach. This method utilized ecological variables, i.e.: Bare Soil Index (BSI), slope, Digital Elevation Model (DEM), rainfall, Normalized Difference Moisture Index (NDMI), and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). The result is  69.8% of Samosir Island is suitable for andaliman, while 26.4% of it is considered as highly suitable habitat.

Abstract

Hutan mangrove berperan penting di wilayah pesisir sebagai ekosistem vegetasi berkayu penyimpan karbon tinggi yang tumbuh pada tanah berlumpur dan anaerobik. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan November 2021 sampai dengan Januari 2022 bertujuan untuk mengetahui komposisi jenis dan menduga biomassa dan simpanan karbon hutan mangrove di Teluk Ambon, untuk dijadikan acuan dalam pengelolaan hutan mangrove. Survei vegetasi dilakukan dengan teknik petak persegi dengan membuat petak pengamatan standar untuk analisis data kerapatan, frekuensi, dominansi, dan indeks nilai penting. Persamaan alometrik digunakan untuk pendugaan biomassa pohon. Metode loss-on-ignition digunakan untuk memperkirakan karbon tanah. Hasil penelitian menemukan 8 spesies mangrove dengan habitus pohon. Sonneratia alba ditemukan sebagai spesies monodominan dengan indeks nilai penting lebih dari 100%. Penelitian menemukan rata-rata potensi biomassa dan karbon tertinggi di Desa Passo dengan AGB 280,47±168,94 Mg ha-1, BGB 83,06±55,1 Mg ha-1, dan karbon sedimen 320,03±106,97 Mg C ha-1. Stok karbon hutan mangrove di Teluk Ambon diperkirakan sebesar 400,67±166,25 Mg C ha-1. Kami menyimpulkan simpanan karbon hutan mangrove di Teluk Ambon cukup tinggi, terutama di Desa Passo yang merupakan lahan simpanan karbon terbesar.

Abstract

Tropical peatlands are among the most fire-prone ecosystems in Southeast Asia, where recurrent burning causes long-term degradation, carbon loss, and biodiversity decline. Assessing spatio-temporal patterns of recovery is therefore essential for guiding effective peatland restoration and fire prevention strategies. This study investigated vegetation recovery dynamics in a fire-affected peatland in Sumatra, Indonesia. Multi-temporal satellite imagery was processed to extract the Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) and Normalized Burn Ratio (NBR). Fire frequency and severity were further analyzed through hotspot distributions and fire history. The results revealed that NBR and dNBR were highly effective in detecting burned areas and assessing severity, while EVI provided complementary perspectives on recovery trajectories. Vegetation in once-burned areas showed relatively steady regrowth, with EVI values approaching pre-fire levels after several years. In contrast, repeatedly burned areas exhibited slower and more heterogeneous recovery, with fluctuating EVI pattern reflecting vegetation growth succession. Field vegetation surveys confirmed that repeated fires drastically simplified forest structure, reducing tree and pole density and favoring shrubs and ferns such as Stenochlaena palustris and Melastoma malabathricum. Overall, the study demonstrates that fire frequency and severity are critical determinants of peatland recovery. The EVI offers valuable insights into vegetation dynamics, while NBR provides reliable fire history mapping. These findings underscore the importance of combining spectral indicators with ground-based vegetation data for long-term monitoring and highlight the need for targeted restoration strategies, including hydrological rewetting and assisted natural regeneration, in repeatedly burned peatlands.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a global impact on all sectors including the environment. The spread of Covid-19 is very much influenced by human activity and mobility. Human activities are also closely related to air pollutant emissions. High concentrations of air pollutants during the Covid19 pandemic will increase the risk of being exposed to Covid-19. Jakarta and its surrounding area (known locally as Jabodetabek) have high population density. These cities are economic and industrial centers. Air pollutant emissions in these cities are very high. High concentrations of air pollutants during the Covid-19 pandemic will increase the risk of being exposed to Covid. To anticipate this problem, the government made a Large-Scale Social Restriction Policy (PSBB). Limited human activities, in addition to having an impact on reducing the risk of humans being exposed to Covid-19 from the droplets released by tested-positive of Covid-19, also have an impact on reducing emissions of air pollutants so that they can reduce the risk of being exposed to Covid-19. Several variables that influence vulnerability and risk to exposure to Covid-19 are the distribution of settlements, roads, economic centers (markets, business centers, industrial centers), and human mobility. In this study, we will also analyze the role of green open space on the risk of exposure to Covid-19. Green open space plays an important role in reducing air pollutants so that it will also affect the risk of being exposed to Covid-19. This study aimed to 1) examine the distribution of air pollutants based on the vulnerability and risk of COVID-19 in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek), and 2) examine the results of the overlay between land cover and vulnerability and risk to Covid-19.

Abstract

Lahan gambut memiliki kemampuan untuk memulihkan lingkungannya sendiri melalui proses suksesi vegetasi ketika mengalami kebakaran. Area dengan frekuensi kebakaran yang berberda memiliki dominasi vegetasi yang berbeda. Pengamatan dilakukan pada area yang mengalami frekuensi satu, dua, tiga dan empat kali terbakar. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menjelaskan perbedaan vegetasi yang menyusun area dengan frekuensi kebakaran berbeda. Vegeteasi tingkat pertumbuhan pancang dan tumbuhan bawah ditemukan pada semua area frekuensi terbakar, tingkat pertumbuhan semai ditemukan pada area satu dan tiga kali terbakar, tingkat pertumbuhan tiang ditemukan pada area satu kali terbakar dan tingkat pertumbuhan pohon ditemukan pada area satu dan dua kali terbakar. Tingkat pertumbuhan pancang pada area frekuensi satu kali terbakar didominasi oleh vegetasi Sepongol, area frekuensi dua kali terbakar didominasi oleh Bangun-bangun dan area frekuensi tiga dan empat kali terbakar didominasi oleh Melastoma malabatrihcum. Tumbuhan bawah pada area dengan frekuensi satu, dua dan tiga kali terbakar didominasi oleh Asplenium longissimum dan pada area dengan frekuensi empat kali terbakar didominasi oleh Athyrium esculentum

Abstract

Kegiatan pertambangan terbuka Bijih Bauksit yang dilakukan pada Areal yang Luas dan tersebar meningkatkan potensi pencemaran kualitas air sehingga diperlukan pengelolaan dengan baik. Salah satu pemodelan spasial GIS yang dapat memprediksi erosi adalah model Geospatial of water Erosion Prediction Project (GeoWEPP). GeoWEPP dapat memprediksi besaran erosi dan memetakan prediksi lokasi terjadinya sedimentasi di lokasi kegiatan penambangan bijih Bauksit serta membuat rencana pengelolaan dan biaya untuk pengendalian erosi, diantarnya dengan membuat settling pond. Pembangunan basis data GeoWEPP diantaranya melakukan Pembuatan peta penggunaan lahan, Peta topografi, Peta tanah dan analisis data curah hujan dan suhu. Hasil analisis terhadap 30 bukit dengan total luas 13 602.48 Ha didapatkan Sedimen sebesar 150 186 m3/bulan dan jumlah aliran air permukaan (run off) sebesar 4 202 267 m3/bulan. Berdasarkan analisis GeoWEPP pada rencana areal blok tambang didapatkan 30 titik outlate yang akan dijadikan lokasi pembangunan settling pond. Biaya yang diperlukan untuk pembangunan seluruh settling pond adalah sebesar Rp. 222 047 640 944 untuk biaya optimis dan Rp. 222 773 049 768 untuk biaya pesimis. Biaya perawatan settling pond pada seluruh titik outlate selama operasional adalah sebesar Rp. 3 145 414 818. Penamanan cover crops pada areal bekas tambang sangat efektif mengurangi erosi, Sehingga setelah kegiatan tambang telah selesai dilakukan, sebaiknya segera dilakukan penataan lahan dan penanaman cover crops.

Abstract

Basically, coastline changes include accretion (raised soil) and abrasion. This study aims to analyze coastline changes in the Indramayu Regency between 1989 and 2019, as well as the causing factors. The secondary data were obtained from Landsat 5 Satellite Imagery in 1989, 1999, 2009, and Landsat 8 in 2019. This analysis used BILKO method, which is a Landsat image analysis to separate land and sea areas. Then overlay method, which was used to delineate boundary. Spatial analysis showed coastline changes in the Indramayu regency of both accretion and abrasion. In the 1989-1999 period, there was an accretion of 319 ha, while there was an abrasion 1291 ha. Furthermore, in the 1999-2009 period, there was an accretion of 349 ha, and abrasion of 1125 ha. Also, in the 2009-2019 period, there was an accretion of 698 ha, and abrasion of 358 ha. Meanwhile, the factors that cause coastline changes are natural such as wind, waves, currents, as well as human factors such as the conversion of mangrove land to ponds and also planting activities. Therefore, efforts made by the government are making waves containment tool and planting mangrove vegetation.

Abstract

Ekosistem mangrove merupakan kawasan yang sangat potensial, umumnya berada di kawasan ekoton (kombinasi kawasan intertidal dan supratidal), dimana terdapat interaksi antara perairan (laut, air payau, dan sungai) dengan kawasan daratan. Indonesia khususnya wilayah Banten dan Jawa Barat memiliki kawasan mangrove yang sangat luas dan saat ini terancam alih fungsi lahan. Apalagi pemetaan sebaran hutan bakau menggunakan platform Google Earth Engine berbasis Cloud Computing kurang dipublikasikan. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini dilakukan dengan memperkenalkan sebaran hutan mangrove yang melibatkan metode algoritma klasifikasi Random Forest (RF), dan mencari modifikasi indeks yang terbaik. Uji kombinasi dilakukan dengan melibatkan indeks NDVI, EVI, ARVI, SLAVI, IRECI, RVI, DVI, SAVI, IBI, GNDVI, NDWI, MNDWI, dan LSWI. Sebaran mangrove terdapat di tiga provinsi (Jawa Barat, Banten, dan DKI Jakarta) yaitu seluas 933,54 ha (8,372%), 1.537,89 ha (18,231%), dan 8.184,82 ha (73,397%). Dari 70 pengujian kombinasi, indeks LSWI (K13, Type-A) merupakan kombinasi dengan tingkat akurasi terendah sebesar 58,45% (Overal Accuracy) dan 39,59 (Kappa statistik), dan kombinasi K23 (SAVI-MNDWI-IBI) merupakan kombinasi yang terbaik yaitu 96,48% dan 92,79.
