Abstract

This research is focused on improving critical thinking skills and also the character of Wasaka (diligent) students through Problem Based Learning, Number Head Together, and Talking Stick which is integrated with STEAM in learning IPAS. This research was carried out in the form of Class Action Research (PTK) with a qualitative approach, which was divided into two cycles. in grade V of elementary school. Data collection used observation sheets as the main instrument to assess critical thinking skills and Wasaka (diligent) character. Indicators of critical thinking include interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and inference. Meanwhile, Wasaka character indicators (diligent) include the attitude of working hard, being earnest, respecting time, and completing tasks. The results showed that students' critical thinking skills increased from 60% in cycle I to 90% in cycle II. Wasaka's character (diligent) has also increased from 55% to 90%. The learning model applied creates a collaborative and fun learning atmosphere, so it is effective in encouraging the development of students' critical thinking skills and character.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to design and evaluate the effectiveness of a bilingual booklet (Indonesian and Banjarese) as a learning media for disaster mitigation in wetland areas of South Kalimantan. The research method used is Design-Based Research (DBR) with four main stages: problem identification, product development, product testing, and reflection. The study involved 50 elementary school students selected using purposive sampling. Data was collected through validation instruments by content, media, and language experts, as well as questionnaires for teacher and student responses. The results showed that the booklet achieved validation scores ranging from 80-100% and received positive responses from both students and teachers, with scores between 95.31%-100%. The booklet implementation in two phases showed an improvement in students' cognitive and affective understanding, analyzed using paired t-tests. The conclusion of this study is that the bilingual booklet is effective in enhancing students' knowledge of disaster mitigation, with practical implications for the development of disaster education media in disaster-prone areas.

Abstract

The problem in this research is that students experience difficulties in learning activities, which impacts their low ability to understand reading texts and express thoughts logically, as well as challenges in developing skills. Therefore, learning innovation is needed through a combination of Mind Mapping, Project Based Learning (PjBL), and Cooperative Learning models, aimed at describing teacher activities and analyzing improvements in student activities and psychomotor skills for second-grade students at SDN Pasar Lama 1 Banjarmasin. This research employs a qualitative and quantitative approach using Classroom Action Research (PTK), conducted over four meetings in the 2024/2025 academic year. The research subjects consist of 29 students. Data were collected through observations of teacher activities, student activities, and psychomotor skills, as well as written tests for quantitative data. Data analysis was performed using percentages and predetermined learning completion indicators. The results show that teacher activities in each meeting were carried out in the "Good" criteria and improved to a score of 35. Student activities increased from 14% in the "Good" criteria in the first meeting to 100% in the fourth meeting. Students' psychomotor skills also improved to 100% in the final meeting. Based on these results, the combination of Mind Mapping, Project Based Learning (PJBL), and Cooperative Learning models effectively enhances student activities and psychomotor skills.

Abstract

The integration of science learning and character education in elementary schools has increasingly attracted scholarly attention; however, the field lacks a comprehensive synthesis mapping its intellectual development, dominant themes, and methodological trajectories. This study aims to systematically examine publication trends, thematic structures, research designs, and emerging gaps in science–character integration at the elementary education level. A hybrid Systematic Literature Review (SLR) combined with bibliometric analysis was conducted on 51 Scopus-indexed articles published between 1997 and 2025. Article selection followed the PRISMA protocol, while co-occurrence and co-authorship analyses were performed using VOSviewer to identify conceptual and collaboration patterns. The findings demonstrate a marked growth in publications after 2018, with Southeast Asia as the primary contributor. Three major thematic clusters emerged: inquiry-based and literacy-oriented science learning, character value development emphasizing responsibility and religiosity, and integrative contextual pedagogical approaches. Quantitative experimental designs dominated the literature, primarily examining impacts on students’ motivation, conceptual understanding, and character formation, whereas longitudinal and mixed-method studies remain scarce. The review highlights the need for interdisciplinary and culturally responsive pedagogical frameworks capable of integrating scientific competencies and character development. This study provides an evidence-based reference for researchers and educators seeking to advance holistic science education in elementary schools.

Abstract

Integrating local wisdom into learning is considered an effective strategy to strengthen character education and support meaningful learning. However, the integration of local cultural values into environmental learning materials for elementary school students remains limited. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a meaningful learning-based module integrating the Wasaka character (Waja Sampai Kaputing) to enhance students’ environmental awareness and environmental care attitudes. This study employed a Design-Based Research (DBR) approach adapted from Reeves’ model, consisting of problem analysis, solution development, iterative implementation, and reflection. The participants were 60 fifth-grade students of SDN Handil Bakti, Barito Kuala Regency, Indonesia. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, environmental awareness questionnaires, environmental care attitude scales, learning outcome tests, and teacher and student response questionnaires. The results showed that the developed module achieved high validity, with material validation of 91.42%, media validation of 88.57%, and language validation of 92%, indicating that the module was feasible for classroom implementation. The implementation results also showed positive learning outcomes and high levels of students’ environmental awareness and environmental care attitudes. These findings indicate that integrating meaningful learning with local cultural values can support environmental character education in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of the Web Liveworksheet-Based SCCrT Model on students’ (1) creative thinking skills, (2) critical thinking skills, and (3) responses toward the implementation of the model in learning the basic laws of chemistry. The study employed a pre-experimental method using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants consisted of 35 students. Data were collected through creative and critical thinking tests and analyzed descriptively. The findings revealed that implementing the SCCrT Model improved students’ creative thinking skills, as indicated by an increase in the mean score from 23.44 to 71.70. In addition, students’ critical thinking skills also improved, with the mean score increasing from 32.71 to 71.14. Furthermore, students demonstrated good responses toward the implementation of the SCCrT model, with 74.51% expressing positive responses. These findings indicate that the SCCrT Model has the potential to improve students’ creative and critical thinking skills in learning the basic laws of chemistry topic.
