Abstract

Natural forest has many ecological functions which plays a vital role in preserving the ecosystem balance. One of them is to stabilize the climatic condition. This is linked with the forest capability to absorb carbondioxide in the photosynthesis process. The more carbondioxide absorbed and stored in the form of biomass carbon, the more it reduces greenhouse gas effect in the atmosphere. This research aimed to obtain information about the value of biomass and carbon content in the Sentajo Protected Forest. Above ground biomass estimation was done by establishing nine plots with the size 20 m x 20 m. Trees with dbh ≥ 10 cm were recorded in terms of diameter and identification species. Tree biomass was estimated by employing Ketterings et al, (2001). Sentajo Protected Forest  region has great potential in storing carbon stocks. The study results showed that carbon contain in Sentajo Protected Forest is 223,177 ton/ha.   Keywords : forest, carbon, biomass.

Abstract

Peatlands in coastal areas have complex problems related to environmental interactions in them, so they are very vulnerable to damage. Dyera lowii is one of the peat swamp endemic species and is a multipurpose tree that meets the criteria. Tricho-compost has a positive effect on plant roots, plant growth and crop production. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of Tricho-compost application on the growth of Dyera lowii seedlings and to determine the best dose of Tricho-compost on the growth of Dyera lowii seedlings on peat medium. This study used 4 treatments with tricho-compost compost at several concentration levels, namely D0 = Tricho-compost dose 0% (Control), D1 = Tricho-compost dose 20% + 80% peat soil, D2 = Tricho-compost dose 50%. + 50% peat soil, D3 = 80% Tricho-compost dosage + 20% peat soil. Data were further analyzed using variance, with SPSS software version 20.0. The application of Tricho-compost fertilizer had the effect of increasing the growth of Dyera lowii seedlings (Dyera lowii), namely the increase in plant height with a dose of 80% Tricho-compost + 20% and showed a height increase of 1.04 cm. Keywords: Dyera lowii, Tricho-kompos, peat medium.

Abstract

The mangrove forest is one of the unique and distinctive tropical forest ecosystems because it is a meeting between land and ocean ecosystems. Area of mangrove ecosystems in Bengkalis districtis in Teluk Pambang Village. Reduced width of mangrove forest located in Teluk Pambang Village, Bantan Subdistrict, Bengkalis districtis caused by changes in land use and land functions through a variety of activities of mangrove land conversion. Steps to anticipate the decline in value of mangrove forest ecosystems is by developing ecotourism activities. This study aims to determine the feasibility of the mangrove ecosystem in the Teluk Pambang village, as the object of ecotourism and determine public perceptions of the mangrove ecotourism in Teluk Pambang Village. The method used in analyzing the feasibility of the mangrove ecosystem as an object of ecotourism is based on the analysis of suitability for Yulianda (2007) tour mangrove ecosystems with the results obtained in the natural potential of the field then tabulated. Then, to determine the index of feasibility can be use dequation: IKW =  [Ni/Nmaks] x 100%, for the public perception of ecotourism analyzed descriptively qualitative. The results of this study indicated that the mangrove forest ecosystems in the Teluk Pambang Village included in the category of very decent (SI) for the mangrove ecotourism development. At Station I a value of IKW was 81.57%, Station II the value IKW 94.73%, while the Station III the value IKW 90.78%. The public perception of the ecotourism of mangrove forest in Teluk Pambang village was quite good, so it becomes a the main attraction to be developed as ecotourism and the community a greed that this location is used as a ecotourism of mangrove.
