Abstract

The rattan craft industry in Pekanbaru City that has been established since 1970s is located in Rumbai Subdistrict. The existence of this industry has been long enough, but until now the picture of the industry pattern of including the production to and the product marketing has not been there. This study aims to determine the origin of raw materials and types of rattan used, the processing of rattan handicrafts from semi-finished goods to finished goods, distribution channels of raw materials, and the marketing of rattan products. This research is done by qualitative descriptive analysis approach. The data were obtained from the results of in-depth interviews, observations, and document studies. The informants were retrieved by purposive sampling technique. Rattan raw materials in the rattan handicraft industry in Rumbai District come from Riau and outside Riau (West Sumatera). The types of rattan used are rattan sega (Calamus caesius), rattan semambu (Calamus scipionum Loureiro), rattan sap (Daemonorops angustifolida Mart), rattan manau (Calamus manau), rattan dahanan (Korthalsia flageris Miq), rattan fitrit of sega and rotan cores of manau type and taboos. Stages of processing rattan handicrafts for furniture in Rumbai Subdistrict consist of modeling, framing, weaving and finishing. As for the webbing consists of determining the model, material measurement, weaving and finishing. Rattan raw material distribution channel consists of farmers collector I collector II processor finished goods processing industry and farmers collector traders processing industry. While the distribution channels and marketing of products used are producers  consumers and producers  retailers  consumers.

Abstract

Green line is one way to fulfill the existence of green open space in urban areas, it was covered by various types of plants from land cover crops to trees. The condition of trees in the green lane must be in good condition and healthy so it can comfort the road users. Considering the importance of trees in urban areas, the health of trees must be considered to prevent accidents which caused by trees along the road. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the health of trees on the green lane at Arifin Achmad street, Pekanbaru. This research was conducted by census method and scoring method that consisting of the health and quality of trees along Arifin Achmad street. The quality of trees in the green line at Arifin Achmad in Pekanbaru City were reviewed from stem health (75,59%) it means that the trees on the green lane were healthy. The quality of trees of threats to roads, sidewalks and drainage networks (81,66) classified into light category.

Abstract

The forest-based activities in Indonesia that were judged to increase the income of the state, leading to massive decline of forest cover. Based on this, the government has established several conservation areas. One of the areas established by the government as a conservation area is the Bukit Rimbang Bukit Baling Wildlife Sanctuary. The communities surrounding the forest generally use existing forest products, especially Non Timber Forest Products (NTFPs), so it is important to know the amount of the contribution of NTFPs to the people's income. This research was conducted in Koto Lamo Village around of Bukit Rimbang Bukit Baling Wildlife Sanctuary area, Kampar Kiri Sub-district, Kampar District, Riau Province. The research that has been done shows the economic value of each NTFPs that is utilized, namely: jengkol is Rp 245.194.444, petai is Rp 179.648.780, durian is Rp 176.685.185, kulit resak is Rp 136.123.200, kembang semangkuk is Rp 121.309.756, duku is Rp 111.100.000, rotan manau is Rp 88.698.750, fruit rotan manau is Rp 79.195.000, langsat is Rp 62.515.384, idan is Rp 38.157.473, forest rambutan is Rp 35.828.000, tampui is Rp 31.119.121, mangosteen is Rp 17.054.074, biga bambu is Rp 14.280.000, rambai is Rp 13.368.750, kulit medang is Rp 10.971.428, honey is Rp 10.368.000, cempedak is Rp 9.173.333 and kabau is Rp 2.425 .833 and contributed to the income of the Koto Lamo Village community by 43.65%.

Abstract

Activities in the forestry sector is known as a sector that has a high safety risk. One of the activities in the forestry sector is the harvesting of timber forest. Where things are done at harvesting when not in accordance with SOP will cause a workplace accident. Forestry workers, especially timber harvesting, deserve occupational safety and health (OSH) guarantees. One of the efforts to increase OSH competence for workers in the field of forestry is felt quite attractive, effective, and efficient is to use the instrument safety game. The purpose of this research is to measure the increase in the knowledge aspects of field workers concerning OSH before and after given the instrument safety game and identify factors that affect the success of OSH knowledge improvement. To identify changes of increase in the respondent’s, use of the scoring results of the questionnaires are two types of questionnaires that is Self Assessment and Control Based Assessment to acquire the knowledge value of pre test, post test 1, and post Test 2 when trial using the safety game. The assessment using questionnaires showed an increase in knowledge after the use  instrument safety game. Based on the result of Wilxocon test, to increase knowledge from instrument safety game on contractor worker feeling manual using chainsaw after given 5 replay game increased from the enough category to be very good category

Abstract

Arboretum as a conservation area that aims to maintain the tree species and ecological benefits of having a variety of plants or trees that have high economic value. One of the plants or trees that have high economic value is balam (Palaqium burchii HJL). The Natural regeneration in a forest area has a very important role to sustain the kind of quantity and quality of balam in the future. Balam (Palaqium burchii HJL) entered in the family Saportaceae. Balam (Palaquium burchii HJL) is a native plant of Indonesia that spread throughout in mainland Indonesia and found most widely in the areas of Borneo. Wood types of balam (Palaqium burchii HJL) has class IV in durability and class II in powers. This study was conducted in Arboretum of University of Riau. Bina Widya Street KM12,5 Panam, District Tampan, Pekanbaru, Riau Province. Arboretum has an area of ± 10 Ha. The research was conducted in March until June 2015. Based on the results of the study showed that the entire swath of the observations which the regeneration of balam only 1.07%, it can be stated that the regeneration of balam in Arboretum area of University of Riau is still relatively low.

Abstract

There are still many nibung stems on Bengkalis area especially in Temeran village. According to Nurlia, et al., (2013) in general use stem nibung done from generation to generation. The purpose of this study is Knowing anatomical properties nibung stem which covers the vascular bundles, parenchyma and nibung stem fibers. Knowing the physical properties of the nibung stem according to the height and depth of the stem including the water content, density, specific gravity and three-way shrinkage. Knowing the mechanical properties of the nibung stem which includes MOE (Modulus of Elasticity) and MOR (Modulus of Rupture). Properties The anatomy of the nibung stem shows that it is dominated by vascular bundles at the base then dominated by the parenchyma at the end. The color of the black nibung stem is striped on the skin and the color of the cream on the center of the skin and the basting. The physical properties of the nibung stem show that the skin edge of the nibung stem can be used as a lightweight construction because it has an average density value of 0.53 g. Cm-3, which is included in the strong class III. As for the center and pith section it is not recommended to be used as a construction, because the average density is 0.28 g.cm-3 in the middle and an average of 0.17 g.cm-3 in the pith section is included in the strong class V. The mechanical properties of the nibung stem were seen from the highest MOE and MOR values found on the edges of the skin, with an average MOE value of 584.78 kg.cm-2. Likewise for the MOR value the biggest nibung stem is found on the edge of the skin with a value of 432,527 kg.cm-2, and on the edges of the skin including the strong class II and the middle and the bile included in the strong class V.

Abstract

Bocai is a traditional ship which originated from Pasir Bongkal Village, Sungai Lala District, Indragiri Hulu Regency. The type of size of the kid in the sandstone village is very diverse, because the kid is used for several purposes. Distinctive characteristics of the leak can be seen on the front and rear of the blunt, called the threshold, in addition to the characteristics of the hull shape or often referred to as the body of the ship is not fat and wide. In connection with this, research on the use of woody plants as raw material for Bocai vessels in the Sand Bongkal Village, Sungai Lala District, Indragiri Hulu District. The selection of informants was made to shipbuilders and shipowners, using the Purposive Sampling technique. The implementation of this research is divided into several techniques, namely observation and interviews, observations made in this study in the form of data and information consisting of primary and secondary data. The data analysis technique used is the qualitative descriptive analysis method, in the form of woody plant species used by the Sand Bongkal Village community and how to use them. The types of wood that are used in making the ship Bocai Sand Bongkal Village are bungur, cempedak, durian, rengas, red meranti, keruing, and kulim. The technique of making a ship ship first install keel then log, ambang, gading-gading, gading kong, papan, tajuk, pisang-pisang, sente, nage-nage, pulang, dek, pemakalan, gale-gale.

Abstract

Arboretum of Riau University is a habitat whom build a one connection potential habitat for wildlife and more organism. As a supporting tool that provides useful information for various purposes, booth in terms of education, social, economic and ecology. It is necessary to support the complete data by conducting research on the animals in the Arboretum of Riau University, especially mamals, to find out the large index of diversity and richness of mammals species contained in Arboretum of Riau University. This Research held on November 2016 until Januari 2017. Method used for this research is a line transects method and trap. On research location obtained result is there 9 of mammals from 6 family founded with 63 individu that founded. The indeks of species diversity in both dry line (1,93) and wet line (1,73) was moderate. Richness indeks good varieties dry line (1,97) wet line (1,80) is low. Most of mammals on Arboretum of Riau University are animals living on forest floor (teresterial), small flying mammals are met for while research only bats and kind of living animals on canopy area crown and the middle of the canopy crown (arboreal).

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas ekstrak biji mahoni sebagai bahan pengawet kayu sengon terhadap serangan rayap tanah dan mengetahui konsentrasi terbaik ekstrak biji mahoni sebagai bahan pengawet kayu sengon terhadap serangan rayap tanah. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) non faktorial yang terdiri dari 5 perlakuan dan 10 ulangan. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Labaoratorium Jurusan Kehutanan Fakultas Pertanian dan Laboratorium Teknologi Bahan Alam Jurusan Teknik Kimia Fakultas Teknik Universitas Riau pada Bulan Oktober 2021-Januari 2022. Data hasil penelitian dianalisis menggunakan statistik dengan bantuan analisis of variance (ANOVA) dan apabila hasilnya berbeda nyata pengujian dilanjutkan dengan uji duncun’s new multiple range test (DNMRT) pada taraf 5%. Nilai kadar air kayu sengon yang diperoleh pada penelitian ini berkisar antara 25.71-24.05%, untuk retensi bahan pengawet didapatkan nilai yaitu 3.49-5.90% g/cm3, kehilangan berat umpan didapatkan nilai yaitu 24.7-4.19% dan untuk mortalitas didapatkan nilai yaitu 19.85-41.60%.

Abstract

Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) and nypa fruit skin fiber (Nypa fruticans Wurmb.) can be used as raw materials in the manufacture of eco-friendly particleboard (PB) using natural adhesives based on citric acid and sucrose. This study aimed to determine the characteristics of PB from sorghum and nypa fruit skin fiber using citric acid-sucrose adhesive and also to determine the optimum composition of raw materials and adhesives in the manufacture of PB. The PB panel was made by mixing raw materials and adhesives with variations in the composition of nypa fruit skin fiber:sorghum raw materials 100:0, 25:75, 50:50, and 0:100, and variations in the concentration of citrate-sucrose adhesive were 20% and 30%. The target dimensions and density of PB were 25 cm x 25 cm x 0.9 cm and 0.8 g/cm3, respectively. The PB was hot-pressed for 10 min at 200oC with a pressure of 11 MPa. The physical and mechanical properties of PB were determined using the Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) A 5908:2003 standard. The results showed that the PB has average values of moisture content of 11.94%, density of 0.79 g/cm3, water absorption of 52.96%, thickness swelling of 13.21%, modulus of elasticity of 1029.55 N/mm2, modulus of rupture of 6.46 N/mm2, internal bonding of 0.18 N/mm2, and screw holding power of 43.12 N. Variation of raw materials composition has a significant effect moisture content, water absorption, thickness swelling, modulus of elasticity, and modulus of rupture. Applying 30% adhesive content significantly affected water absorption, thickness swelling, and screw holding power. Keywords: citric acid-sucrose, nypa fruit skin, particleboard, sorghum
