Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a short-duration digital education intervention based on interactive videos distributed through platforms commonly used by adolescents in Semarang. The study used a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the average knowledge score before and after being given digital-based education (p = 0.000). The results of the bivariate analysis showed that digital educational interventions had a positive impact on increasing adolescents' knowledge of early breast cancer detection. The findings of this study are expected to form the basis for developing more effective, applicable, and sustainable technology-based health learning models in the context of an ever-evolving digital landscape. This finding confirms that the use of digital media is an approach that aligns with the characteristics of adolescents and is relevant in improving health literacy related to early detection of breast cancer.

Abstract

Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, with increasing prevalence globally and nationally. Alternative treatments such as celery leaves (Apium graveolens), which contain active compounds with antihypertensive effects through vasodilation and diuretic mechanisms, are being explored. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effect of celery leaf decoction on systolic and diastolic blood pressure reduction in elderly individuals with hypertension. Methods: A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design was used on 30 elderly patients with mild to moderate hypertension in RW III Anduring, Padang (2025). Participants consumed 250 mg of celery leaf decoction twice daily for 14 days. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The average systolic blood pressure decreased from 147.6 mmHg to 133.4 mmHg (p = 0.000). The diastolic pressure dropped from 92.3 mmHg to 85.1 mmHg (p = 0.001), indicating a statistically significant effect. Conclusion: Celery leaf decoction effectively lowers blood pressure in elderly hypertensive patients and may serve as a complementary therapy to reduce reliance on antihypertensive drugs. Implications: Health workers, especially at Puskesmas, are encouraged to educate communities on the potential of herbal remedies like celery leaf as part of integrative hypertension management.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of sensory aesthetics in a public space photography exhibition as a form of media art practice that supports the city branding of Malang City. The exhibition was held during the Ngalam Culture Festival at Kampung Skabrom and integrates visual experiences, the environment, and social interactions that engage visitors in creating perceptions of the city's identity. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and visual documentation. The results show that sensory aesthetic experiences involving sight, hearing, and social interactions play a crucial role in strengthening visitors' emotional attachment and connection to the city. The findings reveal four main themes: historical atmosphere, visual sensory aesthetics, community sound, and representation of the city's identity. This research contributes to expanding the theory of city branding based on sensory experiences and emphasizes the importance of public art in creating inclusive and participatory city narratives. The study also provides recommendations for creative city planning that involves public participation through media art in public spaces.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This phenomenological study investigates the receptive aesthetics in the accompaniment music of Cirebon Mask Dance (Tari Topeng Cirebon), focusing on the perceptual dynamics of rhythmic beauty and percussive patterns and their intricate correlation with dance movements. Employing Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) within a qualitative framework, this research explores how mask dancers and musicians interpret and respond to specific percussive patterns fundamental pulse, accented strike, and melodic-rhythmic ornamentation as complex aesthetic stimuli that fundamentally shape movement quality and character embodiment. The findings reveal a sophisticated audio-kinesthetic aesthetic system where beauty emerges from precise intersubjective synchronization between sonic impulses and kinetic energy release, mediated by culturally encoded bodily awareness and affective resonance. This study addresses a critical gap in existing literature by privileging insider (emic) perspectives often marginalized in structural and symbolic analyses. The research contributes to performance theory by proposing an integrated "audio kinesthetic receptive framework" and offers practical implications for culturally responsive pedagogy in traditional arts education, emphasizing the necessity of integrative dance and karawitan curricula to preserve the receptive sensitivity that constitutes the performative essence of this intangible cultural heritage

Abstract

This study investigates Padang Ampera restaurants in Bandung as visual archives of Minangkabau cultural memory, navigating urbanization and consumer culture through visual branding. Using a qualitative interdisciplinary approach integrating cultural memory, visual branding, and urban design, it examines design elements like façades, paluang, and ornamentation in Bunga Tanjung, Salero Bagindo, and Saudara Kembar. Findings reveal that these elements enhance authenticity and emotional resonance, preserving Minangkabau identity while appealing to urban lifestyles. The study proposes a cultural branding model that weaves memory, identity, and storytelling, contributing to design practices that balance heritage and modernity. This model supports sustainable cultural preservation in urban culinary spaces but is limited by its focus on Bandung, suggesting broader regional studies. The research advances understanding of how visual branding and culinary display sustain cultural heritage in dynamic urban contexts

Abstract

This article theorizes the aestheticization of Saung, a traditional Sundanese shelter, as a strategy of cultural resilience rather than commodification. The research examines how the Saung is experienced, negotiated, and transformed by diverse social actors in contemporary Sundanese restaurants. Drawing on phenomenology, constructivism, and Bourdieu’s theory of practice, the research utilizes a quadrant model of design processes and a matrix of actor intentions. The research demonstrates that the Saung operates as an allegorical and affective space where embodied feeling (rarasaan), symbolic representation, material ecology, and adaptive design converge. Aestheticization is theorized here as counter-reification, a process through which tradition proliferates without becoming fixed. The article advances a second, theoretically distinct analysis by shifting the focus toward the mechanisms through which vernacular space endures. It argues that resilience is achieved through transversion, understood as the adaptive re-materialization of cultural codes, and through embodied affect that sustains cultural coherence amid contextual transformation.

Abstract

This study examines how Minangkabau cultural identity is visually constructed and negotiated through the storefront displays of Warung Makan Padang Ampera (WMPA) in Java’s rantau (migration) context. Using a qualitative multi-site design, we documented 60 WMPA storefronts in Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Malang through systematic photography and field notes, complemented by photo-elicitation interviews with owners. Visual data were analyzed using Barthes’ tri-level semiotic framework (denotation, connotation, and myth) to identify recurrent signs and the cultural narratives they stabilize. The findings reveal a consistent set of identity anchors marawa color codes, Minangkabau roofline (gonjong) icons, and open paluang/stacked-plate showcases while typography, façade composition, and material treatments adapt to local urban constraints and market positioning. Beyond mapping recurring elements, the study argues that WMPA visual branding functions as a model of vernacular modernity, where recognizability is secured through stable anchors while urban viability is achieved through flexible, street-level adaptation. The significance of these findings lies in extending cultural branding and vernacular aesthetics scholarship from corporate and heritage settings to everyday micro-entrepreneurial foodscapes, showing how cultural identity and trust cues are maintained and recalibrated in ordinary commercial environments. Methodologically, this research contributes by operationalizing Barthes’ tri-level analysis for food-stall storefronts, offering a replicable protocol for interpreting visual identity in informal urban commerce.
