Abstract

Science literacy is a critical skill in the 21st century, particularly for middle school students navigating the complexities of energy concepts in science education. This study aims to develop and validate an essay-based assessment instrument designed to measure students' science literacy skills in the context of energy. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research involved expert validation, panel validation, and empirical testing with 111 students from junior high school in Sukabumi, Indonesia. The results revealed that the instrument possesses strong content validity, with Aiken's V, CVR, and I-CVI scores exceeding 0.80. Construct validity analysis using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) confirmed the suitability of the factor structure, while reliability tests yielded McDonald’s ω = 0.886 and Cronbach's α = 0.922, indicating excellent internal consistency. The instrument also includes a detailed analytical rubric to ensure objective and transparent evaluation. This validated tool offers educators a reliable means of assessing students' science literacy comprehensively, addressing a critical gap in science education evaluation. By fostering more effective assessment practices, this study contributes to enhancing the quality of science education in Indonesia and beyond.

Abstract

Educational evaluation plays a crucial role in ensuring the effectiveness of the learning process. However, various studies indicate gaps in the implementation of effective evaluation methods, such as the lack of a holistic approach and limited valid and reliable instruments. These gaps have the potential to undermine the quality of assessments of students' abilities. This article aims to explore the gaps in educational evaluation through a meta-analysis of several related studies. This study uses a meta-analysis design with a qualitative approach. Data for the study were obtained by identifying relevant research articles, selected based on the following criteria: publication in indexed journals, the main topic related to the development or evaluation of educational instruments, and the context of formal education. Primary data were derived from five key studies, which were analyzed in depth. The analysis process involved data categorization, thematic analysis, data interpretation, and result verification. The findings indicate that the development and validation of evaluation instruments based on innovative design and approaches are crucial in bridging the existing gaps. The development of more holistic evaluation methods, encompassing cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects, can provide a more comprehensive picture of students' abilities. Additionally, for educational policymakers, the findings highlight the importance of regulations that encourage comprehensive validation of evaluation instruments to support more meaningful teaching. The conclusion of this study is that the development of more effective and holistic evaluation instruments, supported by policies that encourage comprehensive validation, can significantly enhance the quality of educational evaluation.

Abstract

Self-efficacy is commonly conceptualised as being contingent upon a particular domain of endeavour. The appropriate understanding of self-efficacy relies heavily on the precise specification of its scope. When the scope of the domain is either excessively broad or excessively narrow, the accuracy of self-efficacy diminishes or it may lose its importance. Furthermore, the concept of a domain inherently requires the existence of sophisticated regulatory mechanisms, so rendering the mastery of rudimentary and repetitive tasks, such as the process of tying shoelaces, devoid of significance. Three interrelated domains were discovered, namely efficacy for classroom management, efficacy for student engagement, and efficacy for instructional methodologies

Abstract

Improving the quality of teacher performance programs certainly requires the important role of teachers and school leaders. The role of teachers can be seen in the implementation of performance programs which require systematic and structured evaluation of performance programs. The results of the evaluation and monitoring of the implementation of the teacher performance program by school leaders are used as material for consideration in making decisions about the quality level of the teacher performance program. Making this decision is very difficult for a school leader in evaluating teacher performance programs. In this case, a modified program evaluation was developed by the CIPP model program evaluation with ALKIN model program evaluation. The research used Development Research (R&D) using 4D design (Define, Design, Development, Dissemination). The Define stage conducts a literature review regarding weaknesses in the CIPP and ALKIN model program evaluation syntax. The Design stage prepares the topology related to the main ideas of the program evaluation development syntax. The Development stage carries out operational definitions and indicators for each program evaluation syntax. The dissemination stage carries out an expert judgment or assessment of the experts who are analyzed using the analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) to determine the consistency of the program evaluation development concept. The results using AHP are consistent with the concept of developing the APIPA model program evaluation which has the syntax Assessment, Planning, Implementation, Product, and Appreciation for evaluating teacher performance programs.

Abstract

The purpose of this community service activity is to enhance teachers' ability to create Teaching Modules as a replacement for the Lesson Plans that have been commonly used in the previous curriculum. The Merdeka Curriculum needs to be understood by teachers in relation to the formulation of Learning Objectives, Learning Objective Pathways, teaching materials, teaching methods, and assessment of the learning process and outcomes. The systematic preparation of teaching modules as a substitute for Learning Plans has not yet been mastered by teachers, resulting in the available Merdeka Mengajar Platform (PMM) being less comprehensive in providing an overview of Learning Planning. Based on the aforementioned issues, this technical guidance activity involves mentoring the dance teacher learning community in Serang City to develop teaching modules in accordance with Phase D as specified in the Merdeka Curriculum. The activities begin with the analysis and mapping of Learning Outcomes in Phase D, setting learning objectives and their progression, and finally compiling ready-to-use teaching modules, which can serve as a reference for other dance teachers in Indonesia.
