Abstract

Evaluation is the act of assessing whether an educational program has achieved its goals, is effective, or has value. One evaluation tool used is the National Final Examination (Ujian Akhir Nasional or UAN), which has become a topic of debate. It should only be used for policy purposes, not for determining students' graduation, and is contradictory to education laws. The type of research used in this article is library research, referring to research that relies on existing references and literature. The article details issues in the education system, particularly concerning the National Final Examination, and the impact of new policies related to UAN in 2017. The National Examination has become a crucial element in Indonesia's education system with a unique history and development. Educational evaluation in the form of the National Examination helps measure progress and the quality of education nationally, with the goal of improving educational quality and meeting government-set standards..

Abstract

As time goes by, the education system in Indonesia dynamically follows the times. This development can be seen from changes in the current learning curriculum. Education plays an important role in determining the future of a nation. The Indonesian education system that applies nationally functions to develop students' abilities. In this case, the education system acts as a means to improve students' intellectual, physical and emotional abilities so that they are able to contribute to nation building. National education is education based on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia which is rooted in religious values, Indonesian national culture and responsive to the demands of changing times. Indonesia has its own national education system which implements 12 years of compulsory education, namely nine years of basic education which includes six years in elementary school and three years each in middle school and high school
