Abstract

Using the panel data regression, the results show that per capita income, income inequality, minimum wage and gross enrollment rates together have a significant effect on the happiness index. and partially the per capita income variable has no significant positive effect on the happiness index while income inequality has no significant negative effect on the happiness index, conversely the minimum wage variable and gross enrollment rate have a significant positive effect on the happiness index in Indonesia. In order to increase the happiness index, it is recommended that the provincial government periodically review the minimum wage policy, increase the gross enrollment rate and increase per capita income and reduce income inequality.

Abstract

Banking is one of the most important sectors supporting a country"™s economy. In Indonesia, the development of banking has undergone significant changes, as evidenced by the shift from the conventional system to the dual banking and Sharia systems. The large number of commercial banks and bank offices suggests high competition in Indonesia. Consequently, banks must reduce costs and streamline their operational activities to remain competitive. This study aims to analyze the relationship between bank competition and financial stability in Indonesia for both conventional and Islamic banks, using the generalized method of moments. The results show a positive relationship between the level of banking industry competition and banking stability, indicating that an increase in bank competition will result in greater stability. These findings suggest that Islamic banking has the potential to expand its market share by improving its soundness and retaining customer loyalty. In addition, banking authorities should reevaluate their performance and regulations.JEL: G21, G32, L10.

Abstract

Kota Batu, as one of the tourist destinations in East Java, has long been known as the best tourism destination. On the other hand, Kota Batu also still has a problem regarding poor people. The tourism sector is seen as a growth strategy that enables the economy to grow, has the potential to improve the local economy, and able to reduce poverty. This study aims to measure the economic valuation of the tourism sector and its contribution to poverty reduction. The respondents and research samples are visitors to the tourist village of Bumiaji District, Kota Batu. Using the travel cost method, the results of the study showed that the economic valuation of the tourist village of the Bumiaji District provided substantial value and ability to contribute to poverty reduction in the area. Village tourism visitors also benefit (consumer surplus) because of the relatively low average costs to be borne compared to the willingness to pay.

Abstract

Tourism is one of the leading sectors that makes a major contribution to the Indonesian economy, including in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) area, Tosari District, Pasuruan Regency, East Java. Throughout 2022, the number of visitors to TNBTS is expected to increase rapidly, which will also lead to an increase in non-tax state income. However, the increase in the number of visitors not only has a positive influence but also has a negative impact, mainly related to environmental concerns. Some of the problems that arise include climate change, socio-cultural degradation, and damage to ecosystems. Sustainable tourism through Green Tourism is an important component for achieving balanced tourism, benefiting both the economy and the environment. Therefore, this research aims to develop a Green-Tourism model in TNBTS. The method used in this research is a mixed-methods approach, employing a SWOT analysis methodology. The research results indicate that local communities and stakeholders can implement a green tourism strategy based on local participation and incorporating local culture, which can increase employment opportunities to absorb labor from rural communities and mitigate the current trend of urbanization.

Abstract

Poverty remains one of the most persistent development challenges in Papua Province, which consistently records the highest poverty rate in Indonesia. Fiscal decentralization is expected to enhance regional autonomy and public service effectiveness through the distribution of government expenditure across priority sectors. This study aims to analyze the influence of fiscal decentralization on poverty levels in Papua Province by examining government expenditure in the infrastructure, education, health, and economic sectors. Using panel data from 29 districts and cities in Papua covering the period 2010–2021, the research employs a dynamic panel data regression approach using the Arellano–Bond GMM estimation model. The results indicate that education expenditure has a significant negative effect on poverty, with a coefficient of ?1.259, and economic expenditure also reduces poverty with a coefficient of ?0.497. In contrast, health expenditure shows a positive coefficient of 0.455, indicating that spending in this sector has not yet contributed to welfare improvement, while infrastructure expenditure records a positive coefficient of 0.492, demonstrating unexpected results and budget utilization inefficiencies. These findings suggest that policy strategies should prioritize education and economic strengthening, improve the effectiveness of health spending, and redesign infrastructure policies based on contextual regional needs to achieve equitable poverty reduction in Papua.

Abstract

The existence of water plays an important role in the lives of all living creatures. Water distribution on the earth’s surface is divided into sea water and fresh water. Rivers are an example of surface fresh water that provides a water source for life. Water quality plays a role in determining a river’s quality status and designation. The Widas River is a sub-watershed of Brantas located in Nganjuk Regency. Based on Government Regulation 61 of 2010, the Widas River is included in class II for the river category. The research was carried out to assess the water quality and quality status of the Widas River. The method used in descriptive-quantitative was obtained by applying the pollutant index method. Water quality data shows that the Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) parameters exceed the established class II quality standards, namely 3 mg/L for the eiver category. Meanwhile, the Widas River’s quality status, with a value of 2,22 using class II quality standards and 1,28 using class III quality standards, is included in the lightly polluted category. Meanwhile, with a value of 0.75 using class IV quality standards, it is included in the river category with good content. Based on this, class III quality standards in Government Regulation Number 2 of 2021 are more appropriate for the Widas River, Nganjuk Regency.
