Abstract

Oil palm and lowland rice farming systems rely on family labor to manage and maintain operations. This study analyzes the contribution of working time, income levels, and family labor costs in oil palm and lowland rice farming households in Pino Raya Subdistrict, South Bengkulu. The research employed a descriptive quantitative method using a survey approach through interviews with 25 respondents. Data analysis included the calculation of family labor contributions through work time contribution analysis (measured in person-days), income analysis (PD = TR - TC), and analysis of the contribution of family labor costs. The results showed that family labor contributed 60%, equivalent to 48.3 person-days per 3 months, in oil palm farming and 40%, or 31.9 person-days per 3 months, in lowland rice farming. The actual income from farming was IDR 6,721,168 per 3 months for oil palm and IDR 2,407,955 per 3 months for lowland rice. Family labor costs accounted for 58% of total farming costs in oil palm and 60% in lowland rice farming. This substantial contribution indicates that family members carry out most farming activities. Oil palm and lowland rice farming can generate higher income when family labor is optimally utilized, as it significantly contributes to overall farming costs. Therefore, it is recommended that farmers maintain and maximize the use of family labor to enhance cost efficiency and support production sustainability.

Abstract

Low mutual trust among suppliers is a significant factor leading to the breakdown of partnerships in the supply chain (Stefani & Sunardi, 2014). This lack of trust can greatly impact the performance and efficiency of the Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) supply chain. This study aims to assess the level of trust among suppliers in the FFB supply chain in Bengkulu Province. The trust level among FFB suppliers in Bengkulu Province is evaluated based on three dimensions: ability, benevolence, and integrity. These dimensions are measured using a Likert scale to calculate a trust index. The findings indicate that the trust level among suppliers in the FFB supply chain is high (trust index 89.69%). The study identifies certain indicators that could potentially weaken trust, including competency and experience indicators in the ability dimension, empathy and acceptance indicators in the benevolence dimension, and relevance and reliability indicators in the integrity dimension. To address these potential trust-weakening indicators, a collaborative effort involving independent farmers, suppliers, and mills is recommended.

Abstract

Bengkulu Province has rice productivity that is able to keep up with Lampung and West Sumatra (Top Five in production and on top three in land ownership throughout Sumatra), although rice farmland ownership is relatively low (less than 0.8 hectares) ). The climate change issue in the last two decades has impacted a significant decrease in rice production in Bengkulu Province. The government offers the Cropping Calendar (Katam) program, a technology that is able to provide a various information related to the croping such as the prediction of the beginning of the rainy season, the beginning of the cropping season, cropping patterns, potential cropping area and others to overcome these problems and the City of Bengkulu has begun to implement the program. The purpose of this study is to analyze the level of application of integrated Cropping calendar by lowland rice farmers in Bengkulu City and analyze the correlation between internal and external factors of farmers with the level of Cropping calendar application. The basic method of this research is explanatory with a combined approach (quantitative and qualitative). The results showed that the level of application of integrated cropping calendar innovations in rice farmers was low. Farming experience, knowledge about cropping calendar, communication behavior, and social strengthening are significantly related to the level of application of cropping calendar innovation in rice farmers.

Abstract

Coffee is Indonesia's mainstay export commodity in the plantation sector which has provided a lot of income for Indonesia. Over time, Indonesia's coffee exports have fluctuated due to the impact of globalization and other external factors such as world coffee prices, Indonesian coffee production, the US Dollar exchange rate, Brazilian coffee exports and Colombian coffee exports. Based on this, this study aims to analyze the performance of Indonesian coffee exports to the Global Market using time series data over a period of 29 years using the Vector Autoregression (VAR) approach. The results showed that there were variables that had a short-term and unidirectional relationship with Indonesian coffee exports, namely the US Dollar exchange rate variable, Indonesian coffee production and Brazilian coffee exports.

Abstract

The fisheries sector, which has an important role socially and economically, is greatly influenced by various changes in natural conditions which currently continue to put pressure on fish catches in the sea. The research objectives were to analyze the sustainability status of small-scale capture fisheries businesses in Bengkulu City and analyze the dimensions of sustainability of small-scale capture fisheries businesses in Bengkulu City. The location determination method was carried out purposively and the selected location was Bengkulu City. The method of determining the sample used accidental sampling method with the criteria of small-scale traditional fishermen with one day fishing activities and boat owners who go to sea. Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) with the Rapfish technique uses 5 dimensions (ecological, economic, social, technological and institutional) to analyze the sustainability status of small-scale capture fisheries. The results showed that the sustainability status of small-scale capture fisheries in Bengkulu City was viewed in a multidimensional manner, namely the status was less sustainable with an index value of 46.25%. The ecological and social dimensions are quite sustainable, while the economic, technological and institutional dimensions are less sustainable. To improve the sustainability status of small-scale fisheries in Bengkulu City, it is necessary to provide assistance with various types of fishing gear, business capital assistance, intensive communication between the government and fishermen, developing the ability of fishermen to handle products and the firmness of officials against violations in the waters of Bengkulu City.
