Abstract

This review looks at how using animated videos that follow the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach can help improve mathematical problem-solving abilities in junior high school students. The review used the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method based on the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The review process involved creating research questions, setting rules for choosing studies, making plans to find information, picking the right studies, checking how good the articles were, and putting the results together. The search for literature was done using Google Scholar, Publish or Perish, ResearchGate, the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), SINTA, and Scopus, looking at articles published between 2021-2026. An initial search identified 30 articles. After checking each article through screening, eligibility, and quality assessment steps, 12 articles were chosen because they met all the set criteria and were included in the final review. The results show that animated videos focused on CTL help students better solve math problems. These videos make it easier for students to understand tricky math ideas by using fun and clear pictures. They also link what students learn in class to real situations they see in everyday life. The studies that were reviewed also showed that students became more motivated to learn, took part more actively in class, developed better critical thinking abilities, and had a better grasp of the main ideas. Additionally, educational materials created with tools like Powtoon, Plotagon, Adobe Animate CC, interactive videos, and Android apps were found to be useful, practical, and successful. So, animated videos that focus on CTL can be seen as a new and good way to help junior high school students improve their math problem-solving skills.

Abstract

The integration of digital educational tools in the teaching of mathematics is increasingly common; however, studies focusing on its application in terms of mathematical problem-solving are fragmented and have not been comprehensively organized. This research seeks to investigate the features of digital educational tools in mathematics content, evaluated through mathematical problem-solving indicators among elementary, middle, and high school learners, as well as university-level students. The approach taken is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), which consists of six phases, starting with formulating the Research Question, defining Selection Criteria, creating a Search Strategy, selecting Studies, assessing the Quality of Studies, and finally, Synthesis Result, utilizing PICOC (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, and Context) analysis to systematically identify and assess pertinent journal articles. Out of the 71 articles discovered, 12 were judged to be relevant to this research. The results indicate that digital educational tools have been shown to be effective in helping to improve and deepen students' mathematical problem-solving skills, all while incorporating technology into the educational experience. Therefore, digital educational resources positively affect learning by enhancing comprehension, fostering engagement, and connecting mathematical principles to students' everyday experiences.

Abstract

The purpose of this literature review is to examine and summarize several articles that discuss the development and implementation of Student Worksheets (LKPD) with the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model on the Arithmetic Sequences and Series material. The method used in this study is the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) which consists of 6 stages, namely: Research Question, Selection Criteria, Search Strategy, Select Studies, The Quality of Studies, and Synthesis Result. This study uses PICOC analysis (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, and Context). The articles reviewed amounted to 12 relevant articles and were published from 2020 to 2025. The results of this study indicate that the development and implementation of LKPD have a positive impact on improving student learning outcomes. In addition, the results of this study also show that LKPD using the Problem Based Learning model can hone students' problem-solving skills, mathematical understanding skills, mathematical reasoning and mathematical communication, especially on the Arithmetic Sequences and Series material.

Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of "verbal probes" through in-depth interviews to uncover students' mathematical conceptual understandings that are not visible from written answers. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study analyzed the gap between written answers and verbal comprehension of three students with different skill levels on PISA-like questions themed Uncertainty and Data. The results showed a significant "gap between written answers and verbal comprehension". Students who give incorrect written answers, when interviewed, are able to articulate a deeper conceptual understanding, identify their mistakes, and explain correct procedures regarding the concepts of confidence intervals, exponential growth, and probability. In contrast, students with limited verbal comprehension consistently show reliance on number operations without a conceptual foundation. The study concludes that in-depth interviews are a crucial formative assessment tool to complement traditional methods. This allows educators to accurately diagnose misconceptions and design more holistic and targeted learning interventions.

Abstract

The transition from differential calculus to real analysis represents a significant ontological shift for undergraduate mathematics students, often accompanied by difficulties in constructing formal proofs. While existing frameworks broadly categorize imperfect proofs as procedural failures, they lack the diagnostic resolution to capture transitional cognitive states. To address this gap, this study integrates the SOLO taxonomy with APOS theory to analyze the cognitive mechanisms of students' proof construction. Employing a qualitative instrumental case study, data from written tests and task-based interviews were collected from 35 undergraduate students. These participants were purposefully selected because they had completed foundational calculus and logic courses, placing them squarely in the crucial transition stage from computational calculus to axiomatic analysis. The data were analyzed using the Constant Comparative Method. Moving beyond purely narrative descriptions, the empirical findings reveal that a majority of students (63%) operate within transition zones. Specifically, the study introduces two refined transitional states: 34% of the students were identified at the Semi-Relational level, characterized by logical gaps stemming from unstable process internalization, and 29% at the Semi-Extended Abstract level, where students display strong intuition but lack formal rigor due to rigid concept encapsulation. Ultimately, identifying these specific cognitive barriers provides a practical roadmap for educators to design targeted instructional interventions, actively helping students overcome their logical or intuitive hurdles to master formal mathematical proving successfully.
