Abstract

ABSTRACT Purpose: The main focus of this study is to understand research trends, identify key academic actors, and explore the impact of the circular economy in various dimensions of development. In this way, it is hoped that this study will not only contribute to the development of knowledge but also serve as a reference for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers in developing strategies for the transition to a circular economy in developing countries. Design/methodology/approach: This This study uses a bibliometric approach to identify and map publication trends in circular economy research in developing countries. With this approach, researchers can identify the extent to which the circular economy has become a focus of research, as well as the topics that dominate scientific debate. The bibliographic data collection process involved several stages. The first stage involved entering the terms “circular AND economic AND in AND developing AND country” in the article title field of the Scopus database for the period 2017-2025 with the document type “Article,” which yielded 364 documents. Then, the language was limited to English, resulting in a dataset of 358 articles. To ensure the relevance and accuracy of these articles, a recheck was performed using Microsoft Excel to review the titles, followed by a review of the abstracts for content suitability, with a final result of 168 articles that met all the specified criteria. Findings: The review indicates that growing global attention to the topic. The dominant themes focus on waste management, recycling, and sustainable development, while research trends are gradually shifting toward more empirical, policy-oriented, and interdisciplinary studies. However, gaps remain in integrating renewable energy, social aspects, and circular business models, and scholarly contributions are still concentrated in a limited number of countries, highlighting the need for broader participation and more collaborative, policy-driven research in developing economies Research limitations/implications: This study is limited to the selected database and publication period, which may limit the generalization of the findings. Future research should expand the data sources, apply empirical approaches, and integrate less explored aspects such as renewable energy, social dimensions, and circular business models to strengthen circular economy studies in developing countries. Practical implications: These findings provide insights for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners in identifying key trends and research gaps in circular economy studies. These results can support the development of more effective policies, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, and guide the implementation of circular economy practices to promote sustainable development in developing countries. Originality/value: This study contributes to the literature by presenting a structured thematic mapping of circular economy research and by identifying emerging themes and potential gaps for future research. Abstract

This study examines the effect of teaching skills and teaching interest on teaching readiness among students of the Economic Education Program, Universitas Negeri Surabaya, class of 2022. The main problem addressed is the variation in students’ readiness to teach despite having undertaken pedagogical courses. This research aims to analyze the partial and simultaneous influence of teaching skills and teaching interest on teaching readiness. A quantitative explanatory approach was employed. Data were collected using structured questionnaires distributed to 30 students selected through simple random sampling. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with classical assumption tests. The results indicate that teaching skills have a positive and significant effect on teaching readiness, while teaching interest does not show a significant partial effect. However, teaching skills and teaching interest simultaneously have a significant influence on teaching readiness, with a determination coefficient of 35.9%. These findings suggest that teaching readiness is primarily shaped by pedagogical competence supported by internal motivation. The study concludes that strengthening practical teaching skills and fostering professional interest are essential to prepare competent future teachers.

Abstract

PBL is a relevant learning model to address the challenges of the 21st century. However, research on PBL mapping in the economic field has not been conducted. This research aims to fill this gap. The research data were obtained from the Scopus database and analyzed using Biblioshiny. The analysis includes annual publication trends, thematic mapping, country contributions, and keyword co-occurrence analysis. The results of the study show that publication trends have fluctuated, with a peak in 2020. The thematic mapping revealed that the research's core themes remain problem-solving, higher education, and teaching economics, with the emergence of new themes, namely technology integration, sustainability, machine learning, and effectiveness. Sierra J was recorded as the most prolific writer, while the highest publication contributions came from Indonesia, the United States, and Germany. The keywords that most often appear together include economics, human, and higher education. These findings show a shift in the research paradigm towards more context-based, digital, and sustainability-oriented economic learning and serve as the basis for future PBL research development.

Abstract

Objective: This study seeks to examine the connection between financial literacy and financial behaviour on students' materialism both directly and indirectly. Method: This research adopts an explanatory quantitative approach to determine the relationships between variables. A survey using questionnaires was conducted on economics students at the Faculty of Economics and Business, State University of Surabaya to obtain primary data. Data analysis was performed using SEM-PLS assisted by WarpPls software. Results: The research findings indicate a positive and significant effect between financial literacy and financial behaviour, but it does not have a significant impact on materialism. Financial behaviour has a negative and significant effect on materialism, while also successfully serving as a mediating variable. Novelty: The integration of financial literacy and financial behaviour to estimate materialism in a model, with a focus on economics students, represents the novelty of this research. The contribution of the study lies in encouraging policymakers and educational institutions to develop financial education curricula with a greater focus on practical applications rather than theory.

Abstract

Objective: This research aims to analyse the partial influence of family and student interest on the decision to choose an interdisciplinary economic programme in line with SDGs. Method: This research is quantitative in nature, using an online questionnaire distributed to students at SMAN 1 Mojosari through purposive sampling with a total sample of 69. The data analysis technique employed SEM-PLS assisted by WarpPLS. Results: The study found that external aspects such as family do not affect the decision to choose an interdisciplinary economic programme, while internal factors, namely interest, have a positive and significant effect. Novelty: The research emphasises the integration of SCCT theory and a previously unexamined population. The latest contribution is that schools should focus on strengthening and adapting interdisciplinary programmes to prioritise the students' own capabilities. Furthermore, this research reflects new knowledge about the self-efficacy of today's students who are already able to convince their parents about career and study paths in accordance with their interests.

Abstract

Despite the growing adoption of digital learning technologies, limited evidence exists regarding the integration of Problem-Based Learning supported by gamified educational applications in economics education. Grounded in active learning theory, this study examines the effect of a Problem-Based Learning approach assisted by the Educandy application on students’ learning outcomes. A quantitative study employing a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group was conducted. The experimental group received Problem-Based Learning supported by Educandy, whereas the comparison group participated in conventional instruction. Learning outcomes were measured using an achievement test, and the data were analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistical procedures. The findings indicate that students exposed to Problem-Based Learning assisted by Educandy achieved higher learning outcomes than those experiencing conventional learning. The results suggest that combining problem-centered learning with interactive digital media enhances student engagement and supports deeper understanding of economics concepts. This study contributes to the active learning literature by demonstrating the pedagogical value of integrating gamified learning applications with Problem-Based Learning and offers practical implications for educators seeking to improve learning effectiveness in economics classrooms.

Abstract

This research examines how economic literacy and digital literacy influence economic teacher readiness through self-efficacy as a mediating variable among Economic Education students from the State University of Surabaya. Using an explanatory research type and a quantitative approach, this study employs PLS-SEM methodology. The investigation gathered questionnaire responses from 106 participants, using the proportionate stratified random sampling technique. First, the result of this study stated that economic literacy does not significantly influence economic teacher readiness. Second, digital literacy and self-efficacy positively influence economic teacher readiness. Third, economic literacy and digital literacy also have a positive influence on self-efficacy. Last, while self-efficacy did not mediate the influence of economic literacy, it did mediate the influence of digital literacy on economic teacher readiness. These results suggest the necessity for alternative comprehensive approaches to improve economic literacy towards economic teacher readiness, other than through self-efficacy. Therefore, educational institutions should enhance digital literacy and self-efficacy to boost economic teacher readiness.
