Abstract

This article examines the symptoms of human psychopathology as illustrated in Surah Al-Ma‘ārij verses 19–35 and offers a Qur’anic therapeutic approach as a solution to achieve happiness and mental well-being. Using a thematic exegesis approach and content analysis, this study finds that Surah Al-Ma‘ārij reveals three core dimensions of human psychopathology: excessive anxiety (al-halu‘), deep sorrow (al-jazū‘), and miserliness (al-manu‘). These three symptoms reflect spiritual and psychological immaturity, which, in modern psychology, correspond to anxiety disorders, depression, and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD). The Qur’an not only identifies these disorders but also provides seven forms of Qur’anic therapy, including consistent prayer (ṣalāh), social compassion, belief in the Day of Judgment, control of desires, and the maintenance of trust and honesty. These findings suggest that integrating Qur’anic values with modern psychological approaches can offer a holistic solution to mental disorders and support the attainment of true happiness.

Abstract

Character education is a crucial aspect in shaping students’ personalities, especially at the high school level, where adolescents are in the phase of identity formation. One effective approach to strengthening character is by introducing the exemplary qualities of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a universal role model. This community service program aimed to instill the values of the Prophet’s character in students through a counseling and educational session at SMA Negeri 15 Padang. The activity utilized a participatory and interactive counseling method, involving lectures, discussions, reflections, and role-play simulations. The session was attended by 824 students from grades X, XI, and XII, with an attendance rate of 97%. The results showed an increase in understanding of values such as honesty, responsibility, and empathy. Positive behavioral changes were also observed, including improved politeness, discipline, and active engagement in social interactions. Strong support from the school was evident, marked by the formation of Islamic study groups as a follow-up to the activity. Challenges faced included the large number of participants and limited time allocation, but these were overcome through appropriate delivery methods. This activity demonstrates that the exemplary character of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is effective in strengthening students’ character and can serve as a model for Islamic value-based character education in other schools.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the forms of instilling spiritual well-being values contained in Surah Luqman, verses 12–19, using John W. Fisher’s Spiritual Well-Being Theory. This theory highlights four main dimensions of spiritual well-being: the relationship with oneself (personal domain), with others (communal domain), with the environment (environmental domain), and with God (transcendental domain). This study focuses on how these four dimensions are reflected in the advice Luqman gave to his son, as recorded in the mentioned verses. The method used in this research is a qualitative approach with thematic content analysis techniques. The primary data source is the text of Surah Luqman verses 12–19, which is analyzed in depth and supported by relevant literature in Islamic exegesis and spiritual psychology. The results of the study reveal that these verses contain rich and applicable spiritual values for character development in children. The personal dimension is illustrated through the call to be grateful and to use wisdom; the communal dimension is reflected in the emphasis on doing good to parents and maintaining social relationships; the environmental dimension appears in the advice to walk humbly upon the earth; and the transcendental dimension is strongly conveyed in the call to worship Allah, establish prayer, and practice piety. These findings indicate that Surah Luqman is a strong source of spiritual education and can be integrated into early childhood education as a foundation for building holistic and sustainable spiritual well-being.

Abstract

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the competence of TPQ (Al-Qur'an Education Park) and MDT (Madrasah Diniyah Takmiliyah) teachers throughout Padang City in teaching the Qur'an effectively. The background to this activity is the fact that many TPQ and MDT teachers have not received adequate pedagogical training. As a result, the Qur'an learning they conduct tends to be monotonous and less interesting for children, thus reducing students' interest and understanding of the Qur'an. This training was conducted over two days with a participatory approach involving 100 participants from various TPQ and MDT institutions in Padang City. The material presented in the training included active learning methods that can activate student participation in class, the use of simple, easy-to-implement teaching media, and Islamic character building strategies that aim to shape noble morals in students. The training results showed a significant increase in the participants' teaching knowledge and skills, where they better understand more interesting and interactive teaching methods. In addition, participants' motivation to continue improving the quality of their teaching also increased. One of the important achievements of this training was the formation of a network among TPQ and MDT teachers that can serve as a forum for sharing good practices in teaching the Quran, so that teachers can learn from each other and improve the quality of their teaching together. The conclusion of this activity is that training designed with the right approach can have a real impact on improving the quality of Quran teaching in TPQ and MDT. Therefore, this activity provides recommendations to TPQ-MDT managers, the community, and the government to continue supporting the development of teacher competencies on an ongoing basis. In addition, it is recommended that further research further examine the impact of learning on student development in terms of knowledge and character.
