Abstract

The backgrounds of carrying out this research are: 1) the students find it difficult to comprehend reading materials; 2) the students’ learning results are low or less than Mastery Minimum Criteria; 3) the teaching strategy used by the teacher is inappropriate in teaching reading comprehension to the students. The objective of this research is to prove that the implementation of Directed Reading Thinking Activity (henceforth, DRTA) strategy is effective to enhance reading comprehension of the fifth grade students of SD Negeri 066050 Medan. This is Classroom Action Research (henceforth, CAR). The sample of this CAR are the fifth grade students of SD Negeri 066050 Medan consisting of 25 students. The students’ learning results in the pre-cycle or pre-test is still categorized unsatisfactory (very low). The students’ mean score in the pre-cycle or pre-test is 56.80 (24%). After completing cycle one, the students’ mean score increased into 66.20 (40%). After doing reflection and finishing cycle two, it was found out that the students’ mean score increased into 77.28 (80%). It is concluded that the application of DRTA strategy is able to improve reading comprehension of the fifth grade students of SD Negeri 066050 Medan.

Abstract

PGSD students must be ready to establish their profession as teachers, for this they must be supported by knowledge and proven theories. This further strengthens the parties' trust in the teaching profession. One of the scientific methods for testing the truth of knowledge, theories or concepts in teacher training, especially those related to learning such as tests (experiments) which are expected so that they can implement existing learning in elementary schools. Schools can implement and design learning models related to teaching skills to elementary school students. One of the factors determining the success of learning is students' mental participation in learning through the opportunity to experience certain conditions or situations as they really are (experiential learning). This participation makes learning interesting and meaningful for students.

Abstract

Microteaching is an innovative method that focuses on developing teaching skills on a micro scale. Research shows that the use of microteaching has a significant positive impact on improving teacher communication skills. Microteaching helps teachers improve their ability to communicate well, clearly and effectively with students through a focused and measurable teaching approach. Research conducted shows that micro teaching courses play an important role in developing teacher communication skills in the classroom. Microteaching provides teachers with the opportunity to train and improve their communication style so they can better communicate subject matter in a way that students can understand. Additionally, research shows that when teachers use microteaching to add variety to their lessons, students' active learning can increase. This confirms that microteaching can not only influence teachers' communication skills, but also create a more interactive and interesting learning environment for students. It can be concluded that microteaching has a significant positive impact on improving teacher communication skills. Through a focused and measurable approach, microteaching helps teachers improve their communication styles, increase interactions with students, and create a more effective learning environment.
