Abstract

The issue of plastic waste remains a major concern in elementary education as it affects both environmental cleanliness and the development of students’ environmental awareness. This article aims to describe the implementation of the KURSAMTIK (Reduce Plastic Waste) program as a daily habituation activity to foster environmental care and responsibility among students at SD N Banjaranyar 04 Brebes, Central Java, Indonesia. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data were collected from teachers, students, and school curriculum documents. The results show that KURSAMTIK has been integrated into the daily program of the Merdeka Curriculum and supports three key dimensions of the Graduate Competency Profile (Profil Capaian Lulusan – PCL): independence, physical and mental health, and collaboration. Students demonstrated significant behavioral changes: 92% began bringing personal lunch containers, and plastic waste volume decreased by 66% within three months. The program effectively cultivates responsibility, independence, and environmental awareness. Therefore, KURSAMTIK can be considered a best practice for environmental character education in elementary schools.

Abstract

The low level of students’ participation and appreciation of art at the elementary school level remains a challenge in arts education, particularly in traditional music learning. Arts instruction that is limited to intramural activities often fails to provide meaningful and sustainable learning experiences for students. One effort to address this issue is through culture-based extracurricular activities, such as angklung. This study aims to describe the implementation of best practices in angklung extracurricular activities to enhance students’ participation and art appreciation at SD Muhammadiyah Kronggahan. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation involving extracurricular instructors, students, school administrators, and related stakeholders. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the implementation of best practices in angklung extracurricular activities supported by mandatory participation policies, regular practice schedules, certified instructors, adequate facilities, and strong support from parents and the community successfully increased students’ active participation and fostered their appreciation of art and local culture. These outcomes were also reflected in students’ consistent achievements in various regional competitions. Therefore, well-managed and professionally implemented angklung extracurricular activities can serve as a model of best practice for strengthening arts education in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study presents a comprehensive analysis of the holistic strategy implementation of Pencak Silat extracurricular as a best practice model for character building at SMP YPS Prabumulih. Amidst the contemporary challenges of adolescent moral degradation, this research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of traditional martial arts in instilling integrity and discipline. Adopting a qualitative methodology with a descriptive case study design, the primary focus is to explore the deep internalization of self-control values that are systematically aligned with the dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile. Primary data were collected through in-depth interviews involving source triangulation, including high-achieving students, professional certified coaches, and parents to ensure an objective perspective. Furthermore, participatory observation was conducted to validate the consistency of students' daily behavior within the school environment. The results indicate that the program functions as a highly effective pedagogical instrument through the exemplary conduct (modeling) of coaches and routine habituation, which successfully transfers the noble values and philosophy of Pencak Silat into students' daily conduct organically. The success indicators of this implementation strategy are confirmed by significant positive behavioral changes, enhanced mental resilience, and notable non-academic achievements at the regional level. This study concludes that integrating local wisdom into school activities can serve as a superior model for developing interest-based and character-focused curricula. These findings provide practical contributions for educational institutions in designing extracurricular programs that are oriented not only toward physical agility but also toward the sustainable development of students' personality and noble character.

Abstract

Character education, particularly the instillation of independence, is an important aspect in the development of elementary school students. However, in reality, there are still students who show low independence in learning, such as dependence on parents and teachers, lack of confidence, and low responsibility in completing tasks. This study aims to describe the implementation of Project-Based Learning and analyze its development in fostering independence among fourth-grade students at Kanisius Kalasan Elementary School. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with teachers and 15 fourth-grade students as subjects. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation during the implementation of a project on planting shallots using water as a medium in the subject of plants and their functions. The results showed that the application of Project-Based Learning was able to increase student active involvement and had a positive impact on the development of independence attitudes. Observation data showed an increase in students categorized as independent from 13% to 73%, as well as a decrease in students categorized as less independent from 67% to 7%. Project-based learning provides concrete, contextual learning experiences and encourages students to plan, implement, and take responsibility for the tasks assigned. Thus, Project Based Learning has proven to be effective not only in improving material comprehension, but also in instilling the value of independence in elementary school students in accordance with the independent dimension of the Pancasila Student Profile.

Abstract

This study develops an innovative prayer memorization learning approach through role-play as a transitional curriculum model from kindergarten to primary school at TK Islam Duta Ananda. The need for religious learning emphasizing meaningful understanding, emotional engagement, and children's transition readiness forms the rationale. Using Classroom Action Research (CAR) with cyclical stages across two cycles, involving 20 TK-B children, data were collected through observation, documentation, and parental involvement reports. Results demonstrate role-play-based prayer learning significantly improved memorization quality (from 35% to 85% achieving criteria), active participation, self-confidence, and independence in leading prayers. This model effectively aligns with transitional curriculum principles and may serve as a reference for early childhood education institutions.
