Abstract

The relationship condition of housing’s environment with the incidence of diarrhea in the Sialang Buah Village Teluk Mengkudu Sub District Serdang Bedagai District  2012. Diarrhea is a public health problem in developing countries such as Indonesia. Based on data from Department of Health Serdang Bedagai District, in 2011, diarrhea was ranked second after ISPA. In Sialang Buah Public Health Center recorded  the highest  incidence of diarrhea was occured range of age 1 month-1 year around 154 cases and 1 year-4 year around 140 cases. This study aims to determine the relationship condition of housing’s environment with the incidence of diarrhea in the Sialang Buah Village Teluk Mengkudu Sub District Serdang Bedagai District  2012. This method of research was an analytic survey with a  cross sectional study design. The sample of this research were 88 housewives  who have children 0-5 years old with proportional random sampling technique. Data were analyzed with chi square test. The value of statistical confidence is 95% and the value of significance (α) 0,05. The results showed that the variables related to the incident of diarrhea under 5 years old in Sialang Buah Village are availability of latrine (p = 0,005), exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0,009), Using health latrine (p = 0,003), and handwashing with soap (p = 0,006). Variables that are not associated with the incident of diarrhea are availability of clean water, wastewater disposal facilities, waste disposal facilities, house floor, density of flies, food storage facilities, corral, and using clean water (p>0,05). Recommendation for the health center and Department of Health to better socialize more about diarrhea diseases by improving health promotion about diarrhea, basic sanitation, clean of residential environment so the society will keep clean the environment, also clean and healthy behavior to the villagers. For housewives who have children under 5 years old to better maintain and improve clean and healthy behavior in the household. Key words: Condition of housing’s environment, incidence of diarrhea

Abstract

Operation Of Hygiene Sanitation Salak Processing At PT. Agrina Parsalakan Village West Angkola Subdistrict South Tapanuli District In 2013. Efforts to control dietary factors, people, places and equipment that may or may cause illness or health problems, it is necessary hygiene sanitation in any food processing in order to avoid contamination. Salak (Salacca edulis) is a plant which its stalk close by midrib leaves, prickly on midrib and stems leaves, fleshy white fruit, blackish brown hard seeds. The manufacturing process of all kinds of processed salak using white sugar/sakarosa. Application of hygiene sanitation on food processing can make a better quality food product. The purpose of this research was to determine the implementation hygiene sanitation on salak manufacturing and analysis of artificial sweetener which are produced by PT. Agrina Parsalakan Village, West Angkola Subdistrict, South Tapanuli District in 2013. The research was descriptive survey to see the implementation of hygiene sanitation and laboratory analysis for determine the presence of artificial sweetener on salak manufacturing. The samples taken from types of processed salak which are produced by PT. Agrina Parsalakan Village, West Angkola Subdistrict, South Tapanuli District. The results showed that the principles of hygiene sanitation on salak manufacturing which qualified is the selection of raw materials, storage of raw materials, food storage and food transport. Whereas the food processing and food serving are not eligible, this refers to Kepmenkes RI No. 942/Menkes/SK/VII/2003. There are no artificial sweeteners in processed salak on six samples tested in the laboratory. Health Department need to make a comprehensive counseling and supervision by the relevant agencies (Health Department) about the importance of hygiene sanitation on snack, and development to the producer about the use of sweetener in food. Abstract

Effectivity of spearmint leaves powder as repellent to american cockroach. American cockroach (Periplaneta americana) is mechanical vector which can bring agent of diseases. In Cockroach had ever been found about 40 microorganism so that can contaminate human food and cause some intestinal diseases even the allergic for human.Usually, People control the American cockroach by using chemical substances which persistent in environment if we use it continuously. This research showed that there was differences average of the quantity of American cockroach which can pass spearmint leaves powder at observation after five minutes with p =0,048. There wasn’t differences average of the quantity of American cockroach at observation after ten minutes and fifteen minutes with p= 0,064 and p= 0,059. The calculation of average protection power of spearmint (Mentha spicata) leaves powder as a repellent to the american cockroach (Periplaneta americana) showed that there wasn’t average protection power over than 90%. The conclusion of this study showed that there there wasn’t average protection power over than 90%. So that spearmint (Mentha spicata) leaves powder wasn’t effective to used as repellent to the american cockroach (Periplaneta americana). Abstract

One of the health effort the society is preparing the facilities basic sanitation. Latrine healthy is an important part in preventing transmission of infection diseases originating from feces. For it, important to reck the factors associated with the use of latrines.This study aims to determine the factors associated with the utilization of latrine bucket at the Village Deli Sub Chart Medan Belawan in 2013.This type of research is a cross sectional analytic design. The population in this study were 393 families who have a latrine bucket with a sample of 100 respondents is by systematic sampling methods. Statistical test used was exact fisher test with confidence level p <0.05. This study aimed to determine the factors associated with the utilization of the bucket latrine in the Village Deli Sub Terrain Chart Belawan. The research method used is analytic cross sectional design. The sample was a family who has a latrine bucket of 100 respondents, results showed that the variables that have a relationship with the utilization of the bucket latrine is knowledge (P = 0.001), attitude (P = 0.012), education (P = 0.001), the condition of latrines (P = 0.001), water supply (P = 0.020) health (P = 0.001), and the role of community leaders (P = 0.001). Statistical analysis using exact fisher test. Conclusions of this study are all factors that have a relationship with the utilization of latrine bucket at the Village Deli Sub Chart Medan Belawan, namely knowledge, attitudes, education, latrine conditions, the role of health workers and the role of community leaders. It is therefore recommended need increased knowledge, improvement bucket latrine conditions, availability of clean water, as well as an increase in the role of health workers and community leaders in order to increase the utilization of latrine bucket. Abstract

Applying Galangal (Alpinia galanga) in Preserving The Meatballs. Meatballs are one of Indonesian favorite foods who have short preserving time. Handling these problems, the meatball producers and traders using harmful preservatives which have bad effects on people’s health who love to eat meatballs. The research’s purpose was to determine the ability of galangal (Alpinia galanga) in extending the meatballs preserving time. The research type was Quasy Experiment with a completely randomized design. Meatball samples were treated by adding galangal to its boiling process with concentration of 100 grams, 200 grams, 300 grams on each 250 grams meatball’s dough and 0 gram as a control in 3 l water. Each treatment performed 5 repetitions. The result showed an average meatballs preserving time at concentration of galangal 0 gram (control) is 19 hours 12 minutes, at concentration of 100 grams is 26 hours 24 minutes, at concentration of 200 grams is 24 hours 48 minutes, at concentration of 300 grams is 22 hours 24 minutes. Based on dependent t results showed a significant difference between treatments with range of galangal concentrations in extending the meatballs preserving time. The LSD test results showed that the concentration of galangal who can have the longest meatballs preserving time is at concentration of 100 grams galangal Thus, producers and traders can use galangal as meatballs preservative which are safe for health. Addition of ginger should be done when meatballs boiling water is not in boiling condition (± 50-60 oC) and it is suggested to use young galangal. Abstract

Dairy farm is one of the businesses that are still developing in Indonesia. The largest dairy farm in Northern Sumatra, is the dairy farms of PT Prima Indo Mandiri Sejahtera in Berastagi Karo Regency. Dairy farms can cause problems for the environment, one of which is the quality of the air. This research aims to know the air quality and complaint irritated eyes and respiratory tract complaints on the workers in the dairy farms of PT Prima Indo Mandiri Sejahtera, Berastagi, Indonesia by 2013. The type of research used is descriptive. Population in this research is 41 people workers that is used in total sampling. The results showed that the air quality of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide in dairy farms of PT Prima Indo Mandiri Sejahtera did not exceeded the level of the quality standard specified in KepMenLH No 50 in 1996. The highest point on range performed in a cage, they are 0,2002 for NH3 and H2S to 0,01289. Conclusion of this research is the quality of the air in the form of NH3 and H2S have not exceeded the quality standards. Based on the characteristics of workers are age, gender, work hours per day, working period, and smoking, there are 15 workers who have respiratory tract complaints and 12 people who have complaints of eye irritation. Therefore it's recommended to PT Prima Indo Mandiri Sejahtera to give self protective tools for workers at the nearby cow cages, improving the cleanliness of the cages and conduct air monitoring on an ongoing basis.

Abstract

Water highly an important role in influencing human health, because it can be a medium of transmission of various diseases. therefore water is used to meet the needs of daily that must be protected from pollution especially it for drinking. Ice is kind of snacks were popular community drink Ice cubes were frozen water, which is cooled below 0 ° C. Ice cubes were used as a complement or an additive beverage drinks. There were several types of ice cubes one ice block and ice crystals. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors relate with beverage vendors in selecting the type of ice cubes in the central market of Medan. This research is Analytical . Population in this study were 94 people with 48 samples. Sample were taken by using systematic random sampling. Of this research note that the percentage of respondents elementary education level by 4.2%, 12.5% junior high, high school 75.0%, 8.3% PT. Respondents using the ice crystals were 60.4% and 39.6% ice beam. Respondents who had a good knowledge of 81.3%, of respondents who had a good attitude to the category of 52.1%, of respondents who had a good measure of 75.0%. There is a relation between education and type of ice that used α (0.076 <0.1) means that Ho is rejected, there is a relationship of knowledge with ice cubes used α (0.001 <0.1) means that Ho is rejected, there is a relationship with the kind of attitude that used ice cubes α (0.004 <0.1) means that Ho is rejected, no relation to the type of action used ice cubes α (0.001 <0.1) means that Ho is rejected. Traders expected the drinks were still using ice blocks that do not use ice beamagain.Key words: Type Ice Cubes

Abstract

Canteen is a place that can provide the food and sell it to the primary school’s children. Cleanliness and good food processing should be done in the school’s canteen to prevent food-borne disease. Canteen should have guidance and supervision from school throught Usaha Kesehatan Sekolah (UKS) program. In addition, the food handler also should understand and implement sanitation to minimize the contamination. The study’s aim to analyze the relationship among guidance, supervision of school, knowledge, attitude of food handler and sanitation of canteen in primary schools in Binjai. This study is analytic survey with cross-sectional design. Samples in this study are 56 schools that consisting of headmasters or teachers, food handlers and condition of canteens. The result of this study was the poor guidance (53.6%), poor control (55.4%), good knowledge of food handlers (53.6%), good attitude of food handlers  (58, 9%) and 57.1% of canteens were not qualifying. Beside that there was a real relationship between guidance, supervision of school and sanitation of canteen and there was a real relationship between knowledge, attitude of food handler and sanitation of canteen. Based on this study, the schools are recommended to supervise canteen and do  good guidance like counseling to the food handlers so that they can increase their knowledge to keep the cleanliness of canteens and can prepare and serve food well and healthy to students. Abstract

School Health Efforts (UKS) is an effort to supervise and develop healthylifestyle habits that are integrated through of health education, health services, andsupervising of environmental health. The UKS program is one of the programdevelopment of primary health care which is targeted at elementary school student,because in such age group is very vulnerable to health problems. The elementary schoolis an institution that is well organized to educate, and improve the quality of humanresources, whether physical, mental, moral, and intellectual. Supervising ofenvironmental health which aims to improve the quality of healthy life and the healthstatus of student as well as to create a healthy environment to enable growth andoptimal student development.This research aims to identify the implementationt of the supervising ofenvironmental health (planning, training and surpervision) at primary schools locatedat working area of Primary Health Care Bandar Khalipah Percut Sei Tuan DeliSerdang District.The research method used is descriptive study. The population in this research iselementary school, and the source of information are the UKS teachers and officers ofthe primary health care. The object of the research is primary school. Data wereanalysed using univariate analysis.The Result of this study showed that 63.0% the primary school has a goodprogram planning UKS, the primary school got training by 66.7% and 70.4% theprimary school have good supervising. 53.8% did not reach the health achievementtarget.It is recommended to give capacity building in planning and training as well asalways maintaining good cooperation across program and between public or privatesectors for the improvement of the UKS program in the future.Keywords : UKS, Supervising, Target, Environment Health

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is a major health problems in indonesia. Based on data from Puskesmas Bandar Dolok, ARI was in first rank from ten biggest disease in Puskesmas Bandar Dolok. ARI attacks many children. ARI may caused by bad physical condition of dwelling house. The dwelling house in Desa Tanjung Mulia mostly around over the brickyard and less of health condition.This study aimed to determine the relationship among the physical condition of dwelling house, ventilation, natural lighting, humidity, wall, floor and ceiling with the incidence of Acute Respiratory Infection to the children under-five years old in Desa Tanjung Mulia Kecamatan Pagar Merbau Kabupaten Deli Serdang on 2013.The type of this study was descriptive analytic by cross sectional design. The sample of this study was 60 chidren under-five years old who live around the brickyard taken by quota sampling. 60 sample consist of 44 children under-five years old with ARI and 16 is had not symptom of ARI.The results showed that there was significant relationship between the ventilation with the incidence of Acut Respiratory Infections in children under-five years old (p=0,026). Meanwhile, there was no relationship between the natural lighting (p=0,263), the humidity (p=1,000), the floor (p=1.000), the wall (p=0.967) and the ceiling (p=1.000) with the incidence of Acut Respiratory Infections in children under-five years old.It is suggested to community who lived in Desa Tanjung Mulia Kecamatan Pagar Merbau Kabupaten Deli Serdang to make good house ventilation and to plant plants as dust barricade. It is suggested to public health official to give health promotion about the house healthy condition, in order to prevent respiratory diseases.Keywords : House physical condition, Children under-five years old, Acute Respiratory Infection
