Abstract

This study discusses the implementation of collaborative governance in mangrove forest management in Hutan Panjang Village, Rupat District, Bengkalis Regency. The Akit Indigenous People are positioned as key actors alongside the Village Government and the Forest Management Unit (KPH). The Akit community possesses local wisdom in preserving mangrove forests through traditional practices such as replanting mangrove trees after harvesting. This wisdom reflects a balance between economic utilization and environmental conservation. However, the sustainability of mangrove forests faces several challenges, including environmental degradation, climate change, and government policies that often conflict with customary norms and indigenous land rights. The purpose of this research is to analyze conservation practices, patterns of collaboration among actors, and forms of community adaptation to policy changes and environmental conditions. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and documentation. Informants were selected purposively, consisting of village officials, KPH representatives, and members of the Akit Indigenous People, totaling 15 participants. The findings reveal a trust gap between the community and the government due to formal regulations such as the 2018 Regional Regulation perceived as misaligned with customary practices and local livelihoods. Consequently, community participation in government programs remains low because of concerns about restricted access to natural resources. In the collaboration process, the Village Government acts as a facilitator, the KPH functions as a technical manager through rehabilitation and training programs, while the Akit community maintains ecosystem sustainability through local wisdom. This study concludes that the sustainability of mangrove management depends on the alignment of government policies with local wisdom, strengthened communication among actors, and the provision of alternative livelihoods based on community participation. The study contributes to the development of collaborative governance theory and natural resource management grounded in the local knowledge of coastal indigenous communities.

Abstract

The agribusiness sector and livestock are among the key contributors to waste production, which is often dumped indiscriminately, resulting in environmental pollution. Organic wastes, such as livestock manure, are also considered to have a great potential for producing energy, including biogas, which is considered a renewable source of energy. Cibitung Wetan Village, Pamijahan District, is a village that has a high potential for agricultural and livestock development, which is very suitable for biogas production and utilization. A community engagement program was conducted by a team of members from the Department of Physics and the Department of Communication and Community Development Sciences, IPB University, to target the community of Cibitung Wetan Village, Pamijahan District, particularly sheep farmers. The main goal of this program is to promote agricultural and livestock development sustainably to increase production, reducing greenhouse gases emitted to the atmosphere. The implementation of this community engagement program was conducted through four stages, including socialization, education and training on digester construction, application of digester technology, and mentoring and evaluation. In this program, a team of members from IPB University worked together with Taruna Tani Transfarmers Farmer Group, Cibitung Wetan Village, on the construction of the digester. The training activities also revealed an increase of 49% in the knowledge and attitude of the participants, as evaluated through pre-test and post-test methods. Intensive mentoring also improved the partners’ skills in the technical areas of installation, monitoring, and maintenance of the digester system. This program shows that the use of livestock and agricultural wastes through the application of the digester system can be an alternative route to self-sufficiency in energy production, can create more added value to the wastes, and can contribute to the development of community-based sustainable agriculture and livestock production systems.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. Enzymes called cellulases can break down the β 1,4-glycosidic bonds in cellulose to produce glucose or simple sugars. In this study, marine endophytic fungi that were isolated from the seagrass Enhalus sp. were used to obtain cellulase enzymes, assess activity, and identify the ideal pH and temperature for cellulase enzymes. The research involved a number of steps for the isolation and characterization of cellulase enzymes from Enhalus sp. named EN marine fungi, including preparing the seaweed by soaking it in warm and room-temperature water, extracting the cellulase enzymes by cultivating the marine fungi on production media with pretreated seaweed, counting the total cellulase activity was assessed using the Mandels et al. (1976) technique, and purifying the cellulase enzymes by depositing it with ammonium sulfate at a saturation level of 30-80%. According to the findings, on day 9 with seaweed carbon as a source of warm water immersion, cellulase enzyme isolated from seagrass Enhalus sp. had the greatest crude extract activity of total cellulase enzyme activity (FPAse), amounting to 0.0276 U/mL. The cellulase enzyme precipitated at a 70% saturation level of ammonium sulfate with an FPAse activity of 0.0381 U/mL and a specific activity of 1.85 U/mg. At pH 5 and 50 °C, cellulase enzyme deposition in this investigation was at its best. Keywords: cellulase enzyme, extraction, Enhalus sp., seaweed

Abstract

Bandung Regency Regional Regulation Number 7 of 2020 regarding the development of 100 tourism villages does not explicitly regulate the governance mechanism of tourism villages. Effective governance requires the involvement of individuals as local creators who are capable of initiating and sustaining tourism village management. This study aims to identify the qualities of local creators in driving tourism village governance and determining the sustainability of tourism village communities in Bandung Regency. This research employs a qualitative approach using primary data through observation, interviews, and focus group discussions, as well as secondary data obtained from village records. The informants consist of 23 individuals analyzed at the individual level. Data analysis includes the stages of data reduction, data display, verification, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that local initiators with strong leadership, education, experience, capacity, and innovative initiatives serve as local creators capable of mobilizing tourism village governance mechanisms. They operate through penta-helix collaboration, role-sharing dialogues, and profit distribution to ensure community sustainability. Community sustainability is marked by regional and national achievements based on indicators such as increasing tourist numbers, economic gains, and culturally and environmentally based development. Local creators and governance structures interact dynamically to ensure the long-term sustainability of tourism village communities. In conclusion, competent local creators act as key agents in driving adaptive and transformative governance mechanisms that ensure the sustainability of rural tourism communities in Bandung Regency.

Abstract

Universities play a key role in driving positive change by equipping students to address environmental and social challenges. This study examines how students at IPB University perceive various sustainability initiatives implemented on campus. Based on a survey of 1,545 undergraduate students, the research explores their knowledge, awareness, and interest in these efforts. The results show that while most students are familiar with the general concept (87.6%), fewer have knowledge of specific programs, institutional rankings, or the university’s Campus Sustainability Office. Nevertheless, nearly all respondents consider these efforts important (98.7%) and support active student involvement (97.2%). Many also express a desire to see these topics integrated into academic courses (84.9%).These findings highlight the need for improved internal communication and curriculum development to enhance student participation. The study offers both practical and academic insights for improving sustainability strategies in higher education institutions. Future research should include multiple universities and consider mixed-method approaches to better understand the factors influencing student engagement

Abstract

This study examined how digital nudges integrated with gamification could improve user engagement in Desa Digital Indonesia (DDI) KMS. Using a user-centered design approach, the research was conducted in two iterative cycles involving user testing and interviews with 5 and 20 participants from rural backgrounds. An iterative process involving two design cycles was conducted, including user analysis, prototype development, and evaluation. The initial evaluation involved five participants and revealed that leaderboard and badge features were generally acceptable but less effective in collaborative contexts. Based on these findings, the design was refined by introducing collaborative elements and small incentives, including achievement titles and promotional rewards. The second evaluation showed improved user acceptance, with all participants preferring the new design, and the incentive-based feature receiving the highest positive rating (90%). The findings indicate that combining competitive, collaborative, and incentive-based nudges leads to more effective and contextually relevant user engagement in rural systems.
