Abstract

Abstract

Impulsive behavior is an action that is done spontaneously and suddenly, without careful consideration or possible consequences. Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder often act without thinking, have difficulty controlling their impulses, and often do risky things without considering the consequences. Group counseling services are a form of psychological therapy where a group of individuals meet regularly to discuss the problems they face with a counselor. Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) often have a tendency to imitate the behavior of individuals around them. Therefore, modeling techniques are considered suitable for use in group counseling, because this technique allows group members to learn through observation and imitation of behavior exemplified by the counselor or other members. The application of group counseling using modeling techniques is important to study in relation to controlling impulsive behavior in children with ADHD. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of group counseling with the modeling method in reducing impulsive behavior in children with ADHD, using a quantitative approach through a literature review. The results of the study indicate that: (1) Group counseling approach through modeling techniques can be a way of intervention for children with ADHD, and (2) this technique is effective in suppressing impulsive behavior in children with ADHD.

Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of group counseling based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in enhancing self-confidence among junior high school students, using a true experimental pretest-posttest control group design. Two instruments were employed: treatment and measurement. The treatment instrument consisted of a guide for implementing group counseling, while the measurement instrument was a self-confidence inventory. The findings demonstrated that ACT-based group counseling effectively enhances self-confidence among junior high school students. The study provided two recommendations: (i) for guidance and counseling teachers, ACT-based group counseling can be applied to strengthen students’ self-confidence and support their developmental understanding; and (ii) for future researchers, given that ACT-based counseling incorporates six core processes (acceptance, cognitive defusion, being present, self-as-context, values, and committed action). Future studies may explore its effectiveness with additional or alternative techniques.

Abstract

Psychological flexibility is essential for university students to adapt and succeed in developmental and academic challenges. This study examines the effectiveness of an Islamic guidance and counseling framework based on sufistic tadabbur alam (nature contemplation) in enhancing students’ psychological flexibility. A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed with nine fourth-semester students at Universitas Negeri Surabaya, selected through purposive sampling. The intervention included contemplative activities grounded in Sufi values and nature reflection, with a 60-item flexibility scale developed from the works of Al-Ghazali, Ibn Sina, and Ibn Arabi. Analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test revealed a significant increase in psychological flexibility across cognitive, emotional, and behavioral dimensions. These findings support the integration of spiritual and ecological elements into counseling models to foster resilience and self-awareness. This study contributes to Islamic educational psychology by offering a holistic and spiritually grounded approach to student well-being and personal development.

Abstract

Gender microaggressions within counseling services are frequently challenging to detect due to their subtle or indirect nature, often remaining unnoticed by both counselors and clients. Despite their seemingly minor nature, these microaggressions contribute to a non-neutral therapeutic environment, adversely impacting the comfort and psychological well-being of individuals, especially within the inherent power asymmetries between counselors and students. This study employs a case study methodology to explore the various manifestations of gender microaggressions in high school guidance and counseling settings. Data were gathered via in-depth interviews and observations involving two counselors and six students. Analytical procedures were guided by microaggression theory, categorizing behaviors into microinsults, Microassaults, and microinvalidations. The results reveal that gender microaggressions are expressed through stereotypical gender roles, neglect of students' emotional experiences, and the use of gender-biased language. This research significantly advances the discourse on gender awareness in counseling practices and emphasizes the need for gender-sensitive training among counseling professionals to foster a more inclusive environment conducive to students’ psychological well-being.

Abstract

An individual's ego identity, a self-image that grows, develops, and internalizes through social interaction, is the culmination of the psychosocial phases they have experienced. This study examined the effectiveness of reality group counseling in enhancing the ego identity of high school students, using a pretest-posttest control group experimental design. Based on the ego identity inventory results, eight students were identified as having low ego identity. The study used two types of instruments: treatment and measurement. The treatment instrument was a reality group counseling implementation guide, and the measurement instrument was an ego identity inventory with a total item validity above the critical r value of 0.344 and a reliability coefficient of 0.957, indicating that the inventory is reliable and suitable for research purposes. Researchers analyzed the data using non-parametric statistical tests. The hypothesis testing yielded an N-Gain percentage of 109.18 > 76 and an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.012 < 0.05. Therefore, the study rejected the null hypothesis and accepted the alternative hypothesis, suggesting that reality group counseling effectively enhances the ego identity of high school students. Abstract

Problem-solving skills during industrial work practice are essential competencies that vocational high school (SMK) students must possess. This study aims to develop a group counseling guide using the Six Thinking Hats technique to enhance the problem-solving skills of students in technology and engineering vocational programs that meet acceptability criteria. The guide is designed for use by guidance and counseling teachers in preparing students for industrial internships. This research employed the ADDIE development model, which includes the phases of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The preliminary study involved 362 vocational high school students who were undergoing industrial work practice. The main subjects of the study consisted of two expert validators from the state university and two user validators, namely guidance and counseling teachers. The research instruments included an acceptability questionnaire and a problem-solving skills questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis to assess the feasibility of the guide based on expert and user validation results, and the effectiveness was tested using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. The results indicated that the group counseling guide using the Six Thinking Hats technique met the acceptability criteria and was deemed appropriate for use by practitioners. This guide is expected to assist guidance and counseling teachers in developing more effective counseling strategies to prepare students for industrial work practice.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of behavioral therapy theory in behavioral counseling through a comprehensive literature review. The study employs behavioral therapy, rooted in learning theory, which emphasizes observable behavior and environmental influences as key determinants of human actions. The study synthesizes major theoretical frameworks—including classical conditioning, operant conditioning, social learning theory, and cognitive behavioral therapy—to explain how maladaptive behaviors are formed and modified. Using a qualitative literature review method, data were collected from scientific journals, books, and relevant academic sources, then analyzed through comparative and integrative approaches. The findings indicate that behavioral counseling focuses on systematic behavior change through reinforcement, punishment, modeling, and cognitive restructuring techniques. The approach is highly structured, measurable, and goal-oriented, allowing counselors to design interventions based on empirical evidence. Additionally, behavioral therapy effectively addresses various psychological and social problems by replacing maladaptive behaviors with adaptive ones through learning processes. The integration of cognitive elements has further strengthened its relevance in contemporary counseling practices. Despite its strengths—such as objectivity and practicality—behavioral therapy also faces limitations, including its tendency to overlook internal psychological processes and emotional depth. Overall, the study concludes that behavioral therapy remains a significant and widely applicable approach in counseling, particularly in educational, clinical, and social contexts, due to its evidence-based techniques and adaptability to diverse client needs.
