Abstract

Introduction: Since mechanical neck pain has become a common problem, physiotherapists’ role in reducing symptoms caused by mechanical neck pain varies such as muscle energy technique and deep transverse friction. Based on the references, mechanical neck pain defined as a condition non-radicular or local pain which increased pain intensity during movement. The study aims to understand whether deep transverse friction and muscle energy technique are effective to reduce pain the mechanical neck pain.Method: The study used the secondary data through article review which focuses on the journals and articles related to the muscle energy technique and deep transverse friction in the mechanical neck pain. Results: The application and method of muscle energy technique are aimed at normalizing the structure of dysfunctional tissue, such as the shortening of muscles, which indirectly gives a direct effect on the joint. It is suggested as a method to improve the mobility of the joint. Besides, to reduce pain through pain modulation, deep transverse friction was applicable to provide it at the level of the supra-spinal to release endorphins, enkephaline, and cortisol. Conclusion: Either muscle energy technique or deep transverse friction are shown a good effect to reduce pain, neck disability, and increase ROM of the cervical joint in patients with mechanical neck pain. Besides, deep transverse friction has also reducing spasm/tightness at the cervical joint level in patients with mechanical neck pain.

Abstract

Background: Musculoskeletal disorders are defined as complaints or disorders that cause discomfort to the musculoskeletal system. During lecture activities, students are mostly in a static posture. Static and repetitive muscle loading when sitting for a long period can cause muscle fatigue due to the accumulation of lactic acid. Besides, it produces discomfort or pain in the musculoskeletal system. The purpose of the research is to describe an overview of musculoskeletal disorders in undergraduate students of the Bachelor and Professional Program of Physical Therapy Faculty of Medicine Udayana University during the lecture. Methods: The method of this research is descriptive-analytic with a cross-sectional, which has been carried out from October to November 2021. This research used a total sampling technique. The participants were undergraduate students of the Bachelor and Professional of Physical Therapy Program, College of Medicine, Universitas Udayana, with a total of 196 participants who met the established criteria. Researchers measured musculoskeletal disorders using a Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire. Analysis of research data using univariate analysis, namely age, gender, body mass index, study period, duration of the study, and musculoskeletal disorders. Results: The results showed that musculoskeletal disorders were mostly complained of by students, namely the waist 61.7%, then the back 59%, followed by complaints in the lower neck 53.6% and upper neck 47.4% while the lowest complaints occurred in the left leg with a percentage of 5.6%. Conclusion: A total of 177 (90.3%) students had musculoskeletal disorders during lectures and 19 (9.7%) did not experience musculoskeletal disorders during lectures, and 94.4% had a low risk of musculoskeletal disorders. The risk of low musculoskeletal disorders can be interpreted as not requiring improvement.

Abstract

Background: There is a process of growth and development in children, including the ability to remember information, which is an essential component of the learning process; this memory is regulated by nutritional status and the amount of physical activity. This study aims to determine the association between nutritional status and physical activity level on short-term memory skills in children aged 9-11 years at SD Negeri 5 Peguyangan. Methods: The research method used a cross-sectional study design with a purposive sampling technique. The number of subjects obtained is sixty-eight subjects according to predetermined criteria at the 5th Elementary School of Peguyangan, Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia. Data were collected by calculating the body mass index to determine nutritional status and measuring the physical activity level by filling out the physical activity questionnaire for older children (PAQ-C). The digit span test is used to assess short-term memory abilities. To find an association between nutritional status and physical activity level on short-term memory skills, data were analysed using SPSS 26.0. Results: Based on Spearman's rho non-parametric analysis test, it was found that the relationship between nutritional status and short-term memory abilities obtained p= 0.006 (p< 0.05) with r= 0.331. In addition, the association between the physical activity level obtained a p= 0.000 (p< 0.05) with r= 0.555. This indicates an association between nutritional status and physical activity level in short-term memory abilities. Conclusion: There is an association between nutritional status and physical activity level on short-term memory skills among elementary school students.

Abstract

Background: Gianyar is one of the districts in Bali, Indonesia, that still maintain customs and traditions in ceremonies and rituals carried out as an implementation of culture. To support these activities, the performing arts commonly presented are traditional dance. The various foot movements in traditional dance will undoubtedly be a problem if there is a deformity in the foot. There is a phenomenon where abnormalities in the shape of the arch of the foot can potentially cause lower back disability. Deformities in the arch of the foot can affect the gait cycle, leg length, and the arrangement of the pelvic bones, which can trigger lower back pain. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the medial longitudinal arch and lower back disability in traditional dancer Methods: This study is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional research design conducted in December-January 2023. The study subjects were 74 students from Vocational School 3 of Sukawati. Majoring in traditional dance, aged 15 to 18 years, with a non-probability sampling technique using purposive sampling. Results: The researchers conducted anamnesis and examination according to inclusion and exclusion criteria and then observed the presence of a flat foot by measuring the Clarke angle value. The analysis used was bivariate analysis with the Spearman correlation test. The bivariate analysis results showed a significant relationship (p=0.000) between the medial longitudinal arch and lower back disability in traditional dancers at Vocational School 3 of Sukawati, with a muscular correlation strength and negative correlation coefficient value of -0.705. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the medial longitudinal arch and lower back disability in traditional dancers at Vocational School 3 of Sukawati.
