Abstract

Speaking skills are fundamental abilities that need to be developed from the elementary school level because they are closely related to students’ communication abilities and self-confidence; however, speaking instruction in schools still tends to be teacher-centered. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Show and Tell method in improving the speaking skills of third-grade students at SDN 21 Pekanbaru. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The research instruments included interview sheets, observation sheets, and documentation review sheets. The findings show that the teacher understands and routinely applies the Show and Tell method by utilizing simple media that are closely related to students’ daily experiences. This method was proven to enhance students’ speaking confidence, fluency, pronunciation, and ability to construct coherent utterances. The main challenges involved differences in students’ self-confidence levels and limited instructional time, but these were addressed through motivation, guidance, and structured turn-taking. Overall, the Show and Tell method effectively supports the development of students’ speaking skills while fostering their self-confidence and positive communication abilities in elementary school learning.

Abstract

Reading skills are a fundamental ability essential to the learning process in elementary school, yet many students still struggle to understand reading passages due to low interest and concentration. This study aims to analyze the planning, implementation, and improvement of fourth-grade students’ reading skills through the application of the audio-visual–based SQ3R method at SDN 003 Padang Sawah Kampar. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach conducted in two cycles, each consisting of the planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of the study were 28 fourth-grade students and their teacher, using instruments such as teacher observation sheets, student observation sheets, and reading skill tests. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ reading skills from cycle I to cycle II, in which teacher activity increased from the “adequate” category to “very good,” student activity increased from “moderately active” to “highly active,” and classical mastery reached 82.14%. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of the audio-visual based SQ3R method is effective in improving elementary school students’ reading skills.

Abstract

The high open unemployment rate (TPT) among Vocational High School (SMK) graduates in Indonesia, reaching 9.01% as of August 2024, indicates a competency gap between graduates and industry needs. This gap is dominated by a deficit in soft skills, especially communication competence. This Community Service (PkM) program aims to enhance the work readiness of 12th-grade students at SMK AT-Taufiqiyyah by strengthening their organizational communication competencies. The program employed a blended-method approach, combining a presentation-lecture (cognitive knowledge transfer) and participatory, case-study-based Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) (practical skill application) for 50 students. Evaluation methods used quantitative pre-test/post-test to measure conceptual understanding, alongside qualitative observation during the FGDs. The results showed a highly significant increase in conceptual understanding, with the average pre-test score of 40.3 rising dramatically to 88.3 in the post-test (a 119.1% increase). Qualitatively, the FGD sessions demonstrated improved applied skills, active participation, collaboration, and the ability to apply theory. Student self-confidence in communication was also observed to increase. The blended-method approach (lecture + FGD) proved effective in bridging the theory-practice gap, enhancing holistic communication competence (cognitive, practical, affective), and supporting student work readiness.

Abstract

The rapid changes in the world of work due to technological developments, digitalization, and globalization require the readiness of adaptive, flexible, and competent Human Resources (HR). In this context, students at Vocational High Schools (SMK), especially SMK AT-Taufiqiyyah, as prospective future workforce, need to be equipped with competencies that are relevant to the needs of the current and future industries. These competencies not only include technical skills (hard skills), but also include Future Work Competencies such as critical thinking, adaptability, collaboration, digital literacy, effective communication, and mental resilience. The Student Creativity Program (PKM) aims to design a student human resource development program based on Future Work Competency to prepare them to face a dynamic and uncertain world of work. The approach used in this program is a combination of project-based training, soft skills training, and work environment simulation adapted to the challenges of the industrial world 4.0 and 5.0. This program is also designed to encourage the development of students who are competitive, innovative, and able to work collaboratively across fields. The program design method is carried out through several stages, namely: (1) identification of future competency needs through literature studies and interviews with industry, (2) mapping the conditions and needs of SMK AT-Taufiqiyyah students, (3) designing training modules and self-development activities based on future work competencies, and (4) limited trials of some students as pilot projects. It is hoped that this program can be a model for the development of vocational school human resources that is contextual and relevant to the dynamics of the job market. In addition, the results of this program can be used by the school to develop a long-term strategy in preparing graduates who are superior and ready to work in an era that continues to change.

Abstract

SMK AT-Taufiqiyyah is one of the vocational education institutions that has great potential in producing graduates who are ready to work and entrepreneurship. However, in its implementation, a number of problems are still found. Some students have not been able to identify and develop their potential optimally, both in terms of skills, professional attitudes, and readiness to face the world of work. In addition, the lack of understanding of human resource management (HR) and effective marketing strategies is also an obstacle in increasing the competitiveness of graduates in the digital era. To overcome these problems, this community service activity is designed with an intensive training and mentoring-based approach. The solutions offered include: (1) HR management training which includes self-awareness recognition, time management, and soft skill improvement; (2) creative marketing strategy workshops that include branding, social media utilization, and digital marketing techniques; and (3) simulation of product/service-based entrepreneurship projects made by students. This activity is expected to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and increase the work readiness of students. The output targets of this activity include: (1) increasing students' understanding and skills in HR management and creative marketing; (2) the creation of at least 3 student business groups that practice the results of the training; (3) the preparation of training modules as continuous teaching materials in schools; and (4) publication of activities in the form of popular or scientific articles. By optimizing potential through this strategic approach, SMK AT-Taufiqiyyah is expected to be able to produce graduates who are not only technically skilled, but also adaptive and innovative in facing the challenges of the world of work and entrepreneurship.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the training activities for berbalas pantun to students' at SDN 005 Bukit Ranah. Elementary School 005 Bukit Ranah is a public school located on Jalan Pekanbaru-Bangkinang, Kampar Regency, Riau Province. The majority of students at Elementary School 005 Bukit Ranah are of Malay ethnicity and culture. Almost all of the students use the local Malay language with the Kampar Malay dialect. As a Malay-based school, this school needs training in pantun reciprocation because the school is looking for students who are talented in pantun reciprocation. Training on writing pantun has been carried out but the activity did not focus on practicing pantun reciprocation even though the school needs talented students to take part in pantun reciprocation competitions. This training activity is carried out using lecture and practice methods. By holding pantun reciprocation training, students can later develop their talents and become representatives for pantun reciprocation competitions. This activity was attended by 25 members taken from representatives of classes 1-6. After participating in the training, a picture of participants who have talent in pantun reciprocation can be obtained by paying attention to the pantun reciprocation aspect.

Abstract

Rendahnya minat baca siswa sekolah dasar masih menjadi tantangan serius dalam peningkatan literasi di Indonesia, sebagaimana tercermin dari hasil PISA yang menunjukkan kemampuan membaca di bawah rata-rata internasional. Kondisi ini diperburuk oleh metode pembelajaran yang monoton dan kurang memotivasi siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan menguji pengaruh model Buddy Reading terhadap peningkatan minat baca siswa kelas III SD Negeri 89 Pekanbaru. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan desain pra-eksperimen one group pretest-posttest pada 34 siswa. Instrumen berupa angket minat baca yang valid dan reliabel, dengan analisis menggunakan Paired Samples t-test. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata skor pretest sebesar 44,41 meningkat menjadi 51,18 pada posttest. Nilai thitung sebesar -11,300 dan nilai signifikansi (p<0,001) mengindikasikan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan antara sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan. Dengan demikian, model Buddy Reading berpengaruh positif secara signifikan terhadap peningkatan minat baca siswa. Kebaruan penelitian ini terletak pada penerapan Buddy Reading sebagai strategi literasi kolaboratif yang mendukung kompetensi abad ke-21 dan relevan dengan implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan teknik berbicara terpimpin dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas IV SDN 004 Domo. Teknik berbicara terpimpin dipilih karena mampu membimbing siswa secara langsung sehingga dapat menumbuhkan rasa percaya diri dan keberanian dalam mengemukakan pendapat. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) model Kemmis dan McTaggart yang terdiri dari empat tahap, yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Subjek penelitian adalah 26 siswa kelas IV SDN 004 Domo tahun ajaran 2024/2025. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi dan tes, dengan instrumen berupa lembar observasi dan soal tes yang telah divalidasi. Analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada siklus I, nilai rata-rata kelas adalah 66,9 dengan ketuntasan klasikal sebesar 57,6%. Setelah perbaikan pada siklus II, nilai rata-rata meningkat menjadi 93,4 dengan ketuntasan klasikal sebesar 92,3%. Teknik berbicara terpimpin terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa melalui kegiatan yang interaktif, seperti bermain peran dan menjawab pertanyaan dari teman. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan teknik berbicara terpimpin berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa secara signifikan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas II SDN 83 Pekanbaru serta mendeskripsikan upaya guru dalam menguatkan kemampuan tersebut pada pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia. Latar belakang penelitian didasari temuan di lapangan bahwa sejumlah siswa masih mengalami kesulitan dalam penguasaan lafal, intonasi, kelancaran, dan kesesuaian isi ketika berbicara. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari lima siswa kelas II dan seorang guru kelas. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Data dianalisis menggunakan langkah reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian siswa telah mampu berbicara dengan cukup baik, namun masih terdapat siswa yang kesulitan terutama pada aspek artikulasi, kelancaran, dan relevansi isi. Selain itu, guru telah melakukan sejumlah upaya untuk menguatkan keterampilan berbicara, seperti penggunaan media pembelajaran interaktif, metode role-playing, diskusi kelompok, pengayaan kosakata, serta pemberian reward untuk meningkatkan kepercayaan diri siswa. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi rujukan dalam pengembangan strategi pembelajaran yang lebih efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa sekolah dasar.

Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by the low poetry-reading skills of students at MTSS TI Ranah, characterized by weak intonation, expression, articulation, and self-confidence. Limited learning facilities influenced this condition, the absence of structured poetry-reading training, and a lack of qualified Indonesian-language teachers. The activity used a performance-based learning approach to improve students’ poetry-reading skills through systematic training and direct practice. Data were collected using observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation during the implementation of the training program. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative and quantitative descriptive techniques to examine changes in students’ performance and participants’ responses to the activity. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ poetry-reading skills after the training, particularly in intonation, expression, articulation, pauses, and emotional engagement. Students also demonstrated increased confidence and enthusiasm in performing poetry in front of others. In conclusion, performance-based learning proved to be a practical approach for enhancing poetry Reading skills and fostering students’ appreciation of literary performance in Indonesian language learning.
