Abstract

Smoking behavior among elementary school-aged children is a concerning phenomenon as it can have negative impacts on physical health and psychosocial development. Self-concept and conformity are two psychological factors believed to play a role in promoting smoking behavior among children. Children with negative self-concepts and high levels of conformity are more susceptible to social pressure, including invitations to smoke. This study aims to investigate the relationship between self-concept and conformity with smoking behavior among children at SD “X” in Tangerang Regency. This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 104 fourth and fifth-grade students who had smoked, selected using total sampling technique. The instruments used were questionnaires on self-concept, conformity, and smoking behavior. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Pearson Chi-Square test. Most respondents had a positive self-concept (51.0%) and moderate conformity (70.2%). The Pearson Chi-Square test results showed a significant relationship between self-concept and smoking behavior (p = 0.000), as well as a significant relationship between conformity and smoking behavior (p = 0.000). This study shows that self-concept and conformity are related to smoking behavior among children at SD “X” in Tangerang Regency, where a negative self-concept and high conformity increase the likelihood of smoking. Therefore, active involvement from schools and parents is needed to foster a positive self-concept and prevent negative peer influence from an early age

Abstract

The use of mineral oil based and synthetic coolants in machining processes remains dominant, despite their negative impacts on the environment and occupational health. Vegetable oils have emerged as an environment friendly alternative due to their biodegradable, non toxic properties, and renewable sources. However, thermal and tribological limitations restrict their performance under extreme conditions. To address this, various studies have investigated the addition of nanoparticles to vegetable oils to form nanofluids with improved lubrication and cooling performance. Nanoparticles such as aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃), molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂), and graphene have been shown to enhance thermal conductivity, reduce friction, and form protective tribological layers. This literature review discusses the effect of the combination of vegetable oil and nanoparticles on surface roughness in machining processes. The results show that nanofluids can significantly reduce surface roughness, particularly in Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) systems. The effectiveness of nanofluids is greatly influenced by the type, size, and concentration of nanoparticles, where the optimal concentration varies but remains within a certain range (e.g., 2.5% for Al₂O₃). This study emphasizes that the development of plant-based nanofluids is a strategic approach toward efficient, environment friendly, and sustainable machining.

Abstract

Patients with schizophrenia often exhibited behaviors such as social withdrawal, hypervigilance, difficulty in management, and vulnerability to anxiety and depression. Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR), as a muscle relaxation technique, had been shown in stress management programs to alleviate symptoms of anxiety, depression, and insomnia. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) on depression levels among patients with schizophrenia at Panti Griya Medika. This study employed a quasi-experimental design using a pretest–posttest without a control group approach. The sample consisted of 30 subjects, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire and the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS), which consists of 17 items to assess the severity of depression. Data analysis was conducted using the paired t-test. Clinically, there was a decrease in depression scores by 2.1 points following the administration of PMR. However, statistically, this reduction from 12.20 to 10.10 did not show a significant effect; therefore, the effectiveness of PMR therapy in reducing depression in schizophrenia patients could not be strongly validated through this study. It is therefore recommended that PMR be implemented regularly as a complementary non-pharmacological intervention in the management of depression among patients with schizophrenia.

Abstract

The prevalence of hypertension is increasing, particularly among the elderly, making it a major health concern that requires serious attention. WHO in 2023 reported that 33% of the global population suffers from hypertension, while in Indonesia the prevalence is 29.2%. In Banten Province, more than 2.3 million cases were recorded, with Tangerang Regency as the highest contributor. A preliminary survey in Kampung Merapit, Waliwis Village, revealed that most elderly lacked knowledge of hypertension prevention; therefore, a simple and easily understood educational intervention is needed, such as poster media. This study aimed to determine the effect of health education using poster media on elderly knowledge of hypertension prevention. A quantitative method with a quasi-experimental one group pretest-posttest design was applied, involving 84 elderly selected through purposive sampling. The instrument was a knowledge questionnaire on hypertension, and data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Results showed that before the intervention, 66.7% had poor knowledge and 33.3% moderate, whereas after the intervention all respondents (100%) had good knowledge. The Wilcoxon test showed p < 0.001, indicating a significant effect. Conclusion: poster-based health education effectively improves elderly knowledge regarding hypertension prevention.
