Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the negative impacts of gadget use on early adolescents. The presence of gadgets, particularly in the form of smartphones, has significantly contributed to daily life as a medium for information retrieval, interaction, entertainment, and even online business activities. The advancement of information and communication technology is increasingly benefiting society. Gadgets, as one of the products of this technology, have transformed human communication behavior by transcending space and time. A gadget is a small electronic device with specific functions, such as a smartphone. Essentially, this technology was created to make human life easier and more comfortable. However, the rapid technological advancements today have made it nearly impossible to find any area of human life untouched by their use, whether directly or indirectly. Along with globalization and the demand for rapid information exchange, negative impacts on early adolescents have emerged. These impacts include health issues, educational challenges, disruptions in social interaction, and even effects on family economics. Excessive gadget use among early adolescents can trigger harmful side effects such as an increased risk of depression, health problems, anxiety disorders, difficulty focusing, and other problematic behaviors. Gadget addiction can also hinder adolescents from socializing with their surroundings and increase the risk of loneliness. The role of parents is crucial in setting boundaries to prevent gadget addiction among children and mitigate these risks.

Abstract

This study explores elementary school teachers’ perceptions, attitudes, and readiness toward implementing environment-based education, a pedagogical approach that integrates environmental awareness and sustainability into classroom practices. It also compares these variables based on teachers’ participation in relevant training or prior experience and examines the relationships between them. A quantitative survey approach was employed involving 161 public elementary school teachers from North Sumatra, Indonesia. Data were gathered using structured self-report questionnaires and analyzed through descriptive statistics, the Mann-Whitney U test, and Spearman’s Rho correlation analysis to identify differences and associations between key factors. The findings reveal that teachers generally hold high to very high levels of perception, positive attitudes, and readiness for environment-based education. Teachers who had participated in training or had prior experience showed significantly higher scores in aspects such as self-efficacy, availability of teaching documents, and willingness to implement environment-based learning. Strong correlations were found among key variables, particularly between teaching resources, institutional policy, and teacher confidence. These results emphasize the importance of professional development and institutional support in fostering effective environmental education practices among teachers. The study offers valuable insights for policymakers, curriculum developers, and school administrators aiming to strengthen environmental education initiatives in primary schools.

Abstract

Women are often associated with a lack of economic independence, which hinders their ability to make autonomous financial decisions. The development of the Sekolah Perempuan website aims to address the significant challenge of women's financial independence, exacerbated by limited access to education and persistent social stigma. This study focuses on creating an optimal design framework that empowers women through the effective use of digital resources. By employing a mixed-methods approach, including both quantitative and qualitative methods, the research utilizes the ADDIE model to guide the website's development. A sample of 35 women participants was surveyed to assess their financial independence before and after engaging with the Sekolah Perempuan website. The data collection instruments included structured surveys, which revealed a significant improvement in financial autonomy, indicated by a mean difference (p < 0.001). The design framework consists of three key components: (1) Promoting Women Empowerment through educational initiatives that enhance self-confidence, financial literacy, and digital skills; (2) Enhancing Digital Marketing Skills by developing competencies in digital knowledge and marketing strategies; and (3) Supporting Financial Independence through integrated marketing tools and educational resources. The findings demonstrate a positive impact, with participants reporting new income sources and increased financial confidence. This study underscores the potential of digital platforms to foster women's financial independence and offers sustainable solutions for long-term empowerment. Future research should explore the application of this framework across various digital platforms to further enhance women's empowerment initiatives.

Abstract

This study explores pre-service elementary teachers’ understanding and practice of holistic assessment based on multiple intelligences. Using a qualitative case study with phenomenological elements, 20 sixth-semester students from Universitas Negeri Medan were purposively selected. Data were collected through observations, semi-structured interviews, document analysis, and reflective journals, validated via triangulation and member checking. Findings indicate that while students possess strong theoretical knowledge of multiple intelligence domains, their practice often shows inconsistencies, including misclassification of cognitive levels, reliance on visual complexity, and replication of conventional test formats. The use of AI also affects assessment accuracy. Results highlight the need for teacher education to strengthen assessment literacy, integrating cognitive analysis and multiple intelligences, alongside AI literacy, to produce valid, holistic instruments that genuinely demand higher-order thinking. This study reveals a persistent gap between theory and practice in preparing teachers for holistic mathematics assessment.

Data collection in this study used a survey with open-ended questions that asked students to submit responses, criticisms, or suggestions regarding their teachers' performance in learning mathematics. The survey lasted for 4 weeks, in July 2024. The population of this study was all secondary school students in West Sulawesi and the sample of this study was 1012 students consisting of 559 high school students and 453 junior high school students in West Sulawesi. Data analysis techniques in this study employed three stages consisting of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings showed that there are still numerous secondary school students (junior and senior high school) in West Sulawesi who are not satisfied with the mathematics learning they experience, particularly regarding the competence of their mathematics teachers. From the students' viewpoint, there are still numerous aspects of the four competencies of secondary school mathematics teachers (personality, pedagogic, professional, and social) in West Sulawesi that need to be further developed.
