Abstract

This study aims to describe the influence of parental income on students' learning motivation. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects of this study consisted of 30 students in grade VII. The results showed that the majority of students came from families with low incomes, and this had an impact on students' low learning motivation. The level of parental income influenced the learning motivation of students in the subject of science (Biology) in grade VII at SMP Negeri 20 Sigi. The researcher found several students whose parents had low incomes so that it influenced the students' learning motivation, from the 30 samples that the researcher used, there were 26 students with low incomes with incomes <Rp.500,000 and those with high incomes were 4 students with incomes of Rp. 1,000,000 - Rp. 1,999,999. The average student learning motivation only reached 36%, which is included in the very low category. Internal factors (31%) and external factors (42%) both play a role in decreasing students' learning motivation. Interventions such as scholarships and support from parents and schools are needed to increase students' enthusiasm for learning. Thus, it can be concluded that the learning motivation of class VII students at SMP Negeri 20 Sigi is very low.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' learning outcomes by utilizing discovery learning-based animated video media using a scientific learning approach in science subjects of class VIII A at SMP Negeri 4 Sindue. The sample in this study were VIII A class students totaling 15 people. This type of research is classroom action research (PTK), data analysis techniques are qualitative and quantitative analysis. Based on the results of research on the utilization of animation media, it shows an increase in student learning outcomes to reach the predetermined completeness of 75%. The percentage of students' classical learning completeness in cycle I only reached 6.7% while in cycle II it reached 82.67%, this shows a significant increase. The percentage of teacher activity in the application of this learning method reached 88.23% in cycle I while in cycle II it reached 93.39% with a very good predicate. In addition, the percentage of student activity in cycle I reached 88.23% and in cycle II reached 93.39% with a very good predicate. This increase in student activity contributed significantly to the increase in learning outcomes, because students became more active, interested and understood the material well. This research implies that animation media can be used as an innovative alternative for teachers to increase student involvement and learning outcomes in science learning.

Abstract

Learning in the Economic Botany and Horticulture course is still dominated by lectures, resulting in limited student procedural skills and the absence of structured teaching materials. This study aims to develop and evaluate an eco-enzyme e-module to improve conceptual understanding, practical competence, and learning effectiveness. Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model, the study involved expert validation, a limited trial with one class, and pre-test/post-test assessment. Data was analyzed through descriptive validation scores, practicality ratings, and N-gain effectiveness. Results show that expert validation yielded very feasible scores for content (90%), media (88%), and instructional design (86%). The practicality test produced a very practical overall score of 87%, indicating high usability, readability, visual appeal, accessibility, and engagement. Implementation of the e-module increased students’ mean score from 62.4 (pre-test) to 91.2 (post-test), generating an N-gain of 0.77 categorized as high effectiveness. The e-module successfully integrates conceptual explanations, fermentation procedures, multimedia features, and project-based activities related to eco-enzyme production. In conclusion, the eco-enzyme e-module is valid, practical, and effective for supporting independent learning and enhancing students’ conceptual and procedural skills in accordance with the course learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to inventory the plant species utilized by the local community as medicinal resources in Rano Village, Balaesang Tanjung Sub-district, and to examine their potential use as instructional learning media. The study employed a descriptive research design with a qualitative approach. Primary data were collected directly through interviews and field observations using a survey method with purposive sampling. Data collection techniques included direct observation, community interviews, and documentation of field findings. In the local context, a traditional healer (sando) plays a significant role as a key informant due to their extensive knowledge regarding the identification and use of medicinal plants. The results of the study revealed that the community utilizes 22 species of medicinal plants belonging to 14 plant families to treat various ailments, including rheumatism, asthma, hypertension, itching, scabies, cough, influenza, and several other health conditions. The plant parts used include leaves, stems, fruits, roots, bark, shoots, sap, and in some cases the entire plant. The preparation and utilization methods commonly practiced by the community include pounding, boiling, topical application, and direct consumption. Based on these findings, the documented information on medicinal plant utilization has strong potential to be developed as instructional media in the form of an educational e-book to support biology learning.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the density of Hydrilla verticillata in Lake Talaga and to evaluate its potential as a bioindicator of changes in water quality caused by domestic pollution. The study was conducted at three stations, where physicochemical parameters were measured, including temperature, pH, light intensity, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, and the heavy metals Pb, Fe, and Cu. The results showed that water temperature ranged from 26 to 28°C and dissolved oxygen from 8.04 to 8.49 mg/L, indicating conditions that still support aquatic life. Heavy metal concentrations were below the established water quality standards. However, the pH was categorized as highly alkaline, and the highest turbidity was recorded at the station located near residential areas, suggesting environmental pressure associated with domestic activities. The density of Hydrilla verticillata varied among stations, reaching 607,333.3 ind/ha at Station II (high category), 180,000 ind/ha at Station I (moderate category), and 6,066 ind/ha at Station III (low category). The high density observed in the residential area indicates nutrient enrichment that may stimulate excessive growth of aquatic vegetation. This condition suggests symptoms of eutrophication and indicates that Lake Talaga is experiencing localized light to moderate pollution. Therefore, the density of Hydrilla verticillata has strong potential to be used as a bioindicator for assessing changes in water quality.
