Abstract

Objective:  This study aims to explore the implementation of tahfidz and tahsin programs at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta, as well as identify strategies to improve the quality of memorization and recitation of the Qur'an through the optimization of dormitory facilities and the implementation of Saturday Islamic Boarding School activities (Pesat). Theoretical framework: This research is based on Qur'anic learning theory that emphasizes the integration of tahsin and tahfidz as part of Islamic character education, as well as kinesthetic and repetitive approaches such as talaqqi, tikrār, and muroja'ah to support successful memorization. Literature review:  The literature review covers the urgency of tahfidz and tahsin in Islamic education, the effectiveness of methods such as talaqqi and tasmi', the role of curriculum and facilities, and the importance of tahsin as a basis for correct memorization. The literature also discusses common reading errors and their corrective strategies. Methods:   The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a field study method. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation, which are analyzed interactively through reduction, presentation, and conclusions drawn. The validity of the data was tested by triangulation and member check. Result:  The results of the study show that the tahfidz and tahsin programs at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta have great potential but have not been fully optimized. Two flagship programs were developed, namely the boarding school dormitory program and Pesat (Saturday Islamic Boarding School), which aims to improve the quality and quantity of memorization. It was also found that some students did not have the correct reading skills, so they needed to learn first before entering the tahfidz stage. Implications:  This study shows the need for collaboration between schools, teachers, and policymakers in designing the tahfidz-tahsin curriculum and optimizing dormitory facilities to support intensive Qur'an learning. Novelty:  This study presents a school-based Qur'an coaching model with the integration of tahsin as a prerequisite for tahfidz, utilizing the boarding system and the Pesat program as effective learning innovations.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the phonological relationship between Qur'anic readings (qirā'āt) and modern Arabic dialects by examining how variations in the recitations reflect the diversity of Arabic pronunciation from the early Islamic period to the present. Grounded in historical linguistics and sociolinguistic theory, the research views the qirā'āt as linguistic evidence of early Arabic dialectal diversity and as a foundation for understanding the development of spoken Arabic. It draws upon classical works such as Ibn Mujāhid's Al-Sab'ah fī al-Qirā'āt and Ibn al-Jazarī's Al-Nashr fī al-Qirā'āt al-'Ashr, alongside the contributions of modern linguists such as Tammam Hassan and Ahmed Mukhtar Omar, who have highlighted the linguistic significance of the qirā'āt, noting that few studies have directly compared these phonological features with those of contemporary dialects. Employing a descriptive, analytical, and comparative linguistic approach, the study examines phonetic phenomena such as imālah (vowel fronting), tashīl al-hamz (glottal easing), idghām (assimilation), and ibdāl (substitution) across Qur'anic readings and modern dialects. The findings reveal direct correspondences between certain phonetic traits in present-day dialects-such as the softening of the glottal stop and vowel fronting-and patterns documented in the qirā'āt. This connection underscores the historical continuity of the Arabic language and provides valuable linguistic insights for Qur'anic and phonological studies. The novelty of this research lies in its unique integration of Qur'anic phonology and modern dialectology, demonstrating that the qirā'āt preserve ancient dialectal features that remain alive in contemporary spoken Arabic.

Abstract

Purpose: This research aims to analyze the concept of piety in the Qur'an and its application in character education in Islamic boarding schools. The method used is a qualitative approach with an analytical descriptive research design, which examines the literature and interpretation of the Qur'an related to piety and its application in Islamic boarding schools. Data were collected through the analysis of texts related to piety and literature studies related to piety based character education. The results of the study show that piety in the Qur'an includes spiritual, moral, and social dimensions, which are reflected in real behavior. The application of piety values in pesantren education has proven to be effective in shaping the character of students, both in personal and social aspects. The study also found that pesantren integrate pious values into their curriculum, through religious and social teaching activities that emphasize social awareness and responsibility. The conclusion of this study is that piety has a central role in the formation of the character of students, which can be applied in various aspects of life. This research makes an important contribution in the field of Islamic education, especially in the development of Qur'an-based character education

Abstract

Humans know time in every life, with the passage of time, humans encounter many experiences in the surrounding environment that can be used as material for thinking to improve their future. In explaining the concept of time management and its implementation in Surah al-'Ashr with the tahlili method which explores the meaning of each vocabulary referring to Arabic rules, such as nahwu Sharaf, balaghah, and semantics. In addition, it will discuss the interpretation of the scholars. Then continued to explore the aspects of maqashidi, education, and wisdom. With the explanation of the concept of time in Surah Al-'Ashr, humans can take lessons to make the best use of time. This is so that humans avoid losses both in this world and in the hereafter. Scholars differ in their interpretation of time, the first opinion says that time includes the steps and movements contained in it, the second opinion says that time is the time when the Asar prayer is carried out, the third opinion says that time is the presence of the Prophet Muhammad in this life. The word of Allah SWT in Surah Al-'Ashr illustrates that the condition of human beings is really at a disadvantage except for those who believe, those who do good deeds, and those who advise each other in truth and patience. To realize the implementation of the best time in life in the world, humans must maximize their efforts and prayers so that every time is guided by Allah SWT, the Lord of the Universe.

Abstract

The rising cases of stress, anxiety, and mental health disorders highlight the growing need for inner tranquillity. The Qur’an introduces the concept of al-thuma’ninah, yet its meanings across different verses have not been comprehensively examined through the lens of classical exegesis. Previous studies largely focus on semantic or contemporary approaches, leaving a gap in understanding how classical scholars conceptualised thuma’ninah. This study addresses this gap by analysing the meaning of al-thuma’ninah according to al-Qurtubi’s Tafsir al-Jami‘ li Ahkam al-Qur’an, using qualitative library research and thematic analysis of Qur’anic verses derived from the root ط-م-أ-ن. The research aims to identify the categories of thuma’ninah and explore their relevance to mental health. The findings show that al-thuma’ninah is a multidimensional concept encompassing epistemological reassurance, psychospiritual calm, steadfast faith under pressure, social stability, and illusory worldly tranquillity. These results affirm its relevance as a spiritual foundation for modern mental well-being.
