Abstract

This article explores statelessness as a multidimensional problem that directly impacts access to education and civic identity, particularly in Asia and Europe. Around 10 million people worldwide are stateless, deprived of basic rights such as education, health and employment due to the absence of legal documents. In Malaysia, thousands of children from migrant communities and ethnic minorities such as the Rohingya and Filipinos in Sabah lack access to national schools and public services due to their legal status. Meanwhile, in Europe, historical legacies such as the breakup of the Soviet Union and structural discrimination mean that many children from groups such as the Roma are born stateless and excluded from the education system. This article highlights that formal policies, such as "Zero Reject", are not enough without political alignment and effective identification mechanisms. Through human rights-based approaches and cross-sectoral cooperation, the elimination of statelessness should be a priority agenda in global citizenship and education policies. This will not only guarantee individual rights, but also build the foundations of an inclusive, just and civilised society.

Abstract

Civic disposition is a fundamental component of civic competence, encompassing the attitudes, values, and cognitive practices that facilitate democratic participation. This study aims to analyze the trends, themes, and evolving trajectories of research on civic disposition, as well as its implications for improving civic education in the digital era.   The research gap exists because few comprehensive mapping studies utilize both bibliometric and systematic review methods. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology, conforming to the PRISMA framework, in conjunction with bibliometric analysis sourced from the Scopus database. From the 336 identified documents, 12 essential articles were selected and analyzed using VOSviewer to illustrate keyword co-occurrence, author collaboration, and country affiliation networks. The findings indicate that research on civic disposition is limited and predominantly conducted in the United States, with emerging contributions from Indonesia.  Three principal research clusters were delineated: (1) civic education and contentious issues, (2) teacher training amid global crises, and (3) the integration of civic disposition with civic knowledge and competencies. The findings suggest that civic education should encompass reflective, participatory, and value-centered pedagogies, grounded in Pancasila and enhanced by digital technology, to cultivate democratic and virtuous citizens capable of confronting the challenges of the 21st century. Keywords: civic disposition, civic education, bibliometric analysis, PRISMA, Pancasila

Abstract

Philanthropy in Indonesia is deeply rooted in local traditions and the spirit of communal cooperation, making it a fundamental aspect of social life. The concept of citizenship in Indonesia goes beyond legal and political definitions, encompassing socio-cultural values expressed through diverse philanthropic practices. This study explores how local traditions and the dynamics between mechanical and organic solidarity shape the socio-cultural framework of philanthropy and influence civic development. The researchers surveyed 387 respondents across seven key regions: Yogyakarta, Bandung, Jakarta, Makassar, Medan, Denpasar, and Samarinda. Data collection focused on communal awareness, traditional practices, and the roles of solidarity in charitable efforts. Multiple regression analysis revealed that local traditions contribute 35% to strengthening philanthropic values. Mechanical solidarity, rooted in shared beliefs, accounts for 25%, while organic solidarity, driven by functional roles, contributes 20%. The interaction between tradition and modernity adds another 20%. These findings highlight that cultural traditions and the combination of mechanical and organic solidarity are vital foundations for building societal awareness. The research underscores the importance of stronger collaboration between government bodies and communities to incorporate these cultural elements into Indonesia's modern, citizenship-oriented philanthropic movements.
